Approach

I started playing the show quite recently (The Show 15) and was a complete beginner. Initially a football fan I became on past few years a real baseball fan. I play both The Show and OOTP.

MLB The Show 18 is a version I really enjoy. When SD Studios stopped to support the online franchise, a bad news turned into an opportunity.

In reality Online Franchise was awful. Reality is it is impossible to organise a 162 games season with 30 users. Madden online franchise benefits from short 16 games NFL seasons, baseball is a different story.

The Show online franchise did not feature any proper schedule, no fatigue, no real financial, no real FA management... Leagues played inconsistent seasons where the ten most active guys played 25 to 30 games, the next ten 15 to 20 and the bottom 10 between zero and five. All of that with impact on player development etc... The experience was really not there if you like Sim ''franchise'' mode.

Initially i am not much into CPU/offline games, but thanks to the right settings (Mike Lowe settings of course) and the right roster (OSFM hybrid of course) this is one of the best video game experience I ever had. So I decided to post a news about it.

Dynasty setup and rules

For me this game(offline franchise) makes only sense if you play every pitches of every games (Ironman type).

• I take care of all actions GM and Manager
• All games are played (no fast forward, no simulation) each single game
• Mike Lowe (from OS) sliders i just changed the hitting difficulty (HOF pitching and AS hitting)
• Classic interface: zone hitting and pure annalog pitching.
• OSFM roster v1.5 was the initial roster(fantastic roster taken ''as is'')
• Realistic management of the roster: trades only for CPU teams players OTB + no push of any prospect before their 21/22 years
• I intend to carry on for multiple seasons as such, it is so hard to have a good roster to start with that
• Each game is streamed.
• Loose or win this game is the best sport game i ever played.

• Overall record 11-17 / Monthly record 11-14
• A disappointing 3-7 on last 10 games, but all losses are close games,
• Upcoming series against Mariners and Astros critical to reposition the team in the 0.500 mark

• Overall record 27-30 / Monthly record 16-13.
• A's close to the .500 mark, improving but still a work in progress.
• A loosing streak led to two key trades to improve the outfield landing former Red Sox Benintendi and former Brewers Broxton.
• Pitching improving since the demotion of Mengden and the addition ofa couple of veteran relievers.

June 2018 update

• Overall record 44-40 / Monthly record 17-10.
• Team seems to gel with a good month, however the series against Astros and Angels (1-5) show that we still struggle heavily in our Division
• Lots of wins against loosing team even if the recent couple of wins against Indians are encouraging.
• The lineup overall it is pretty good with A's ranking 5th in ''avg'' and 4th in ''hits'' but only 11th in scored runs.
• The rotation has had ups and downs but the pitching staff is coming together: Manaea (surprisingly) leads the league in wins (), Gosset got called late in the month from AAA, Trivino returning from injury is a good addition to the bullpen.

July 2018 update

• Overall record 65-44 / Monthly record 21-4.
• A prolific month for the Athletics, 20 wins in a row and a surprising 21-4 record for the month !!! (may be subject to a dedicated news later on)
• Lots of wins against loosing team even if the recent couple of wins against Indians are encouraging.
• We finally clicked against winning team with 4 wins in a trip to Houston...
• But that came with a price, Cotton who was playing at a very high level sustained a torn labrum and is out for the rest of the season, weakening a rotation which struggles to find a 5th starter

Can the A's take the AL West ?

A question which would have looked really inaproppriate by the end of April... but at trade deadline day Oakland is surprisingly at the top of the AL West... Are the Athletics for real ?
The coming month should tell with series against Marineers, Angels and Astros. If the the A's can keep the rhythm before the roster extension they should be in a good position.

But to do so they will need to get decent production from Cahill, Mengden or someone else. When the offence slowed down late in the month the rotation and bullpen showed signs of limits to contain closed games.
