Kimbrel, Keuchel Remain Unsigned As Trade Deadline Approaches

Entering the off season, Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel were viewed as two of the top free agents that were expected to sign lucrative deals with playoff contenders. Now, with the all star break passed and the trade deadline fast approaching, it is shocking to see that both players have yet to find a home.

Due in part largely to the fact that both clients are represented by super-agent Scott Boras, neither have been able to find a fit as the half-way point of the season passes. It will be interesting to see if some contenders decide to take a look at either Kimbrel or Keuchel as an alternative to acquiring talent on the trade market. As seen earlier in the week, the market is beginning to heat up, with the Kansas City Royals making the first big move of the trade deadline season, acquiring starter Julio Teheran from the Atlanta Braves.

Blue Jays Sign Shoemaker To 2 Year Extension

Toronto, ON -- The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they have signed starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker to a two-year contract extension. Shoemaker, who signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays over the offseason, has blossomed into one of the game's most dominant starters over the course of this season.

After battling injuries for the last few season, Shoemaker has managed to throw 127.1 innings for the Blue Jays, accumulating a 2.54 ERA and 1.14 WHIP on his way to an 11-2 record.

Shoemaker's deal is worth a reported $11.7M, paying the 32-year old right hander $5.85M over the next two season while buying out a year of arbitration.

Blue Jays Send Galvis To Rangers For Crouse

The Toronto Blue Jays have made their first move of the 2019 trade deadline, sending shortstop Freddy Galvis to the Texas Rangers. The move seems to indicate that the Blue Jays are determined to take the rebuilding path despite sitting just four games out of a wild card spot.

Galvis, who is in the final year of his contract and an unrestricted free agent this offseason, is enjoying a career year for the Blue Jays, hitting .290 with six homers in 355 trips to the plate this season while providing stellar defence.

In exchange for Galvis, the Blue Jays acquired pitching prospect Hans Crouse. Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft, Crouse has showed promise in his short professional career and is ranked as MLB.com's 80th prospect. A true power pitcher, Crouse blows away hitters with a fastball that parks in the mid-90s and repeatedly hits 99 mph with riding life that makes it even more difficult to barrel. He backs it up with a wipeout slider with mid-80s velocity and two-plane depth, and he shows the aptitude to manipulate it into a true curveball to give batters a different look. His changeup can be too firm at times but shows flashes of becoming an average third offering with some fade.

It's yet to be determined whether the Blue Jays are done making deals before the trade deadline hits at 4pm.

Blue Jays Send Morales To The Desert For Walker, Chafin

Toronto, ON -- After sending shortstop Freddy Galvis to the Texas Rangers earlier in the day, the Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they have sent firstbaseman Kendrys Morales along with pitching prospect Justin Shafer and outfield prospect Forrest Wall to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In return, the Blue Jays will receive firstbaseman Christian Walker and southpaw reliever Andrew Chafin.

Morales has thrived in his age-35 season, putting up a .302 batting average with 13 doubles as the cleanup hitter in a weak Toronto lineup. A year after hitting .249, the veteran firstbaseman proved why he was deserving of his $12M salary. Shafer, 26, has pitched well in the highest level of the minors this season, putting up a 3.24 ERA out of the bullpen at Triple-A Buffalo. Wall, 23, has yet to crack the majors in his career, but possesses above average fielding skills and hopes to use his contact and speed in a massive Chase Field outfield.

Walker, 28, has shown potential in the minor leagues but has never managed to tap into that potential at the big league level. Finally receiving consistent playing time this season, the 28 year old Walker has slashed .243/.308/.385. Also 28, Chafin looks to provide the Blue Jays with a second lefty option out of the bullpen. Tim Mayza has struggled this season, and has represented Charlie Montoya's only southpaw reliever up to this point. Chafin will look to turn around his season, as he has compiled a 4.58 ERA from the Arizona bullpen albeit with 22 holds in 44 appearances.

This trade continues to show that the Blue Jays management is dedicated in rebuilding the roster, as they save a whopping $10M in salary expenses.

Blue Jays Place Buchholz On Waivers, Continue To Shuffle Roster

Toronto, ON -- Amongst all the trade deadline frenzy, the Toronto Blue Jays have announced several roster moves. The team announced that they have activated starting pitcher Clay Buchholz from the 10-day injured list, and have placed him on optional assignment waivers with the intention of having him join the rotation in Triple-A Buffalo. The team also announced that they have optioned reliever Danny Barnes to Triple-A Buffalo and recalled thirdbaseman Brandon Drury from Triple-A.

Buchholz accumulated a 4-7 record with a 4.40 ERA during his time in Toronto, and has since been replaced by Thomas Pannone in the Blue Jays rotation since his injury. Clearly, Pannone has pitched well enough to keep his spot in the rotation, going 2-2 with a 2.28 ERA in 23.2 innings of work.

Barnes, 29, struggled for the majority of the season, putting up a 6.55 ERA out of the 'pen. He'll go down to Triple-A to work on limiting the number of hits he surrenders, and his roster spot will go to the newly acquired Andrew Chafin.

Lastly, Brandon Drury makes his return to the major league roster. The former D-Back was optioned to Triple-A after a putrid start to the season that saw him slash .179/.291/.242. The 26 year old seems to have worked out whatever it was, as he has hit .284 with 18 home runs for Triple-A Buffalo.

Re: Canada's Team | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays, Smoak Agree To Extension

Toronto, ON -- While his name was swirling in trade rumours for the past month, the Blue Jays announced that they have agreed to a two-year contract extension with the 32 year old slugger.

The deal is worth a reported $11M over two years, paying him $5.5M a year.

"This is where I want to be. I'd likely be putting on another team's jersey tonight if I wasn't ready to put the pen to the paper", said the slugging firstbaseman. The 6'4" South Carolina product is enjoying a career year for the Blue Jays, hitting .300 with 21 home runs and 16 doubles as he continues to anchor down the Blue Jays offence. While the Blue Jays have dealt several veterans over the past few hours, the Blue Jays believe that Smoak can be a positive veteran presence for the up-and-coming young Blue Jays stars of the future.
