Re: Canada's Team | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Up Next: Blue Jays (56-53) @ Royals (62-47)

The Blue Jays will take their post-trade deadline roster to the field for the first time against the Kansas City Royals and Julio Teheran (10-7, 2.94 ERA), who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves earlier. The Blue Jays will send Aaron Sanchez (8-11, 4.68 ERA) to the mound. It was unsure whether Sanchez would remain a member of the Blue Jays long enough to make this start, but it seems as though he will remain in blue threads until at least the end of the year.

Danny Jansen and Justin Smoak continue their hot hitting in what has been a cold month for the Blue Jays offence. Randal Grichuk has seen his batting average drop to .253 in the second-hole in the Blue Jays lineup, and Devon Travis has struggled to find his way on base in the month of July. Expect some lineup changes if these trends continue.

Marcus Stroman has cooled down significantly ever since the all star break, picking up three straight losses despite pitching well in each game. The Blue Jays need their offence to pick up the slack as they have lost several games where they have scored all but one run.

The Blue Jays will look to remain relevant in the American League wildcard race as they take on Blake Snell (6-13, 3.37 ERA) and the Tampa Bay Rays, who sit in fourth place in the American League East. The Blue Jays will turn to fellow southpaw Thomas Pannone (3-2, 1.76 ERA), who has impressed since being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo last month.

Up Next: Rangers (42-76) @ Blue Jays (62-59)

Marcus Stroman (11-5, 2.56 ERA) will take the mound looking to break out of the cold spell that he has been under since the all star break. The talented right hander has yet to win a game since the all star break, and will look to change that against the Rangers. Lance Lynn (6-8, 4.75 ERA) will get the ball for the Rangers, who are coming off a rough weekend after being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Re: Canada's Team | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Place Borucki, Maile on Injured List

Ryan Borucki will have his season cut short as he heads to the IL.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have placed SP Ryan Borucki on the 10-day IL with a bulging disk. Borucki left his start against the New York Yankees this past weekend with what was described as “lower back discomfort” but it seems like his season is now done after being prescribed a recovery timeline of at least 6 months. Borucki has had an up and down season in his second taste of the big leagues, putting together an 8-8 record through 135 innings of work with a 4.00 ERA.

The team also announced that they have placed catcher Luke Maile on the 10-day IL with a fractured hand. Maile also suffered the injury in this past weekend series against the New York Yankees when he was hit on the hand by a Luis Severino fast ball. The 28 year old from Kentucky has seen his playing time decline thanks to the stellar production from Danny Jansen, but has put together a respectable .234/.364/.365 slash line through 137 trips to the plate.

In corresponding roster moves, the Blue Jays have recalled catcher Reese McGuire and pitcher Sam Gaviglio from Triple-A Buffalo. McGuire has played well fro the Bisons this season, putting up a .249 average to go along with some stellar defence. Gaviglio is expected to slide into the rotation spot vacated Borucki, and will look to build off of his successful rookie campaign.
