    [MLB The Show 19] Miami Marlins Renaissance

    Miami Marlins Renaissance

    Approach

    I started playing the show quite recently (The Show 15) and was a complete beginner. Initially a football fan I became on past few years a real baseball fan. I play both The Show and OOTP.

    Since SD stopped supporting the online franchise I play exclusively offline franchise. And I think for the better. With MLB The Show 18 I took a step making The Show my ''main'' game and playing around 140 user games with the Oakland Athletics.

    In reality Online Franchise was awful. Reality is it is impossible to organise a 162 games season with 30 users. Madden online franchise benefits from short 16 games NFL seasons, baseball is a different story.

    The Show online franchise did not feature any proper schedule, no fatigue, no real financial, no real FA management... Leagues played inconsistent seasons where the ten most active guys played 25 to 30 games, the next ten 15 to 20 and the bottom 10 between zero and five. All of that with impact on player development etc... The experience was really not there if you like Sim ''franchise'' mode.

    With MLB The Show 19 I decided to pause my A's franchise and start another one.
    • First I am really looking to manage a non DH lineup.
    • Second I felt like the roster I used was probably too generous with the A's and my season became more a run for playoff (similar to the real Athletics 2018 season) rather than a challenging and budget constrained rebuild.
    • Third, I was not (by lack of the Show experience) restrictive enough with trades which I feel made my journey easier.

    There is no bigger challenge than Marlins nowadays in the MLB. So I am looking to see if i can realistically make that team competitive in the NL East

    ">

    Rules and setup

    Games approach

    Spring training will be optional: on need basis i will decide to play or not to test players.

    Regular season

    2 game series: play 1st gm, then manage 2nd

    3 game series: play 1st, then manage 2nd game.
    If I win 2nd game, manage 3rd game.
    If I lose 2nd game, play 3rd game.

    4 game series: play 1st, then manage 2nd game.
    If I win 2nd, manage 3rd & 4th.
    If I lose 2nd, play 3rd then manage 4th.

    Post season: play all games if you get there

    Trades
    • Trades only for players OTB in season
    • No trade for high profile prospects from non winning team / rebuild team even if the cpu put them on the blog
    • No shop player around trade

    Prospect and draft
    No push of any prospect before their 21/22 years
    Draftees will play a year at least in minor

    Contracts players extension will be subject to max between
    • player sal + 20%
    • player pos avg
    • player desired contract

    (Pos = min salary in M/year)
    RP = 6.9
    DH = 7.8
    CP = 8.3
    C = 9.4
    3B = 11.7
    SS = 12.5
    2B = 12.5
    LF = 12.7
    CF = 12.7
    RF = 15
    1B = 20
    SP = 22

    Prospect edit

    In off season i would love key prospect get a decent progression based on potential and age but it is tricky to get a decent rule

    So for under 70 skills when age is under 23 for pos players and 25 for pitchers (attempt)
    * For A ensure all key attributes increase min by x% (20?)
    * For B ensure all key attributes increase min x% (15?)
    * For C ensure all key attributes increase min x% (10?)

    Others
    • I take care of all actions GM and Manager
    • No staff hiring outside off season
    • Manager contracts - On
    • Do not activate any sponsors

    Setup
    • [S]Mike Lowe (from OS) sliders[/S] Changed to FenwayMac sliders after few games (see April 2019 update)
    • Injury slider to 9 (sim style requires injuries)
    • Full Minor released 12/04 roster

    2019 Opener Update

    image uploader

    For the very first spring training we kept things basics. However, since I will play a significant number of game this season I tried to my best to sign a few FA to reinforce some of my numerous weaknesses.
    Since I will not rush sim the first season so we are not going to tank. We may not be competitive but we will still try our best to give a game day in and day out to each single opponent.

    Roster Transaction Update
    • Signed RF Danny Valencia to a 2y/5.6M contract
    • Signed RF Colby Rasmus to a 2y/4.3M contract
    • Signed RP Boone Logan to a 2y/3.8M contract
    • Signed RP Santiago Casilla to a 2y/3.8M contract
    • Signed 1B Logan Morrison to a 2y/5.7M contract

    Note: each of these contract have a ''club'' option

    The farm system is not really fantastic with only SP Sanchez ranked (21th) in the top 50 prospects.

    However, there are still a few players which will get special monitoring in the minor.

      Re: [MLB The Show 19] Miami Marlins Renaissance

      April 2019: The struggle

      • Overall record 8-21 (very MLB like) / 5-14 in user games
      • Changed the sliders after 6 or 7 games (see below)
      • Most of user games have been close main blocker to turn things around is the bullpen lack of talent

      Early panic

      After a 0-4 overall start (0-3 in user games) decision has been made to look into the free agency to bring a couple of additional players:

      Danny Valencia to bring a power bat against left handed pitchers and push Granderson to a platoon role. Valencia a native from Miami was a free agents after 7 years in the major. The Marlins are the 8th MLB franchise he will play for. Valencia offers as well an appreciated flexibility able to play at the corner of both infield and outfield.

      Considering spring training and early season struggles from Peter O'Brien, the Marlins offered Chris Coghlan to return to Miami. Coghlan, a 7 years major league veteran, can play any outfield position and bring a precious additional left bat against right handed pitchers. Coghlan played four years for Miami before joining the Cubs to win the world series in 2016.

      Pleasant struggle

      In user games we fail most of the time because of a deficient pitching, more specifically the bullpen is really lacking talent outside of Steckenrider. So something we may look to address with trades because Free Agency could only bring back Ramos for almost 4M a year. So far I have resisted...

      Note on sliders[/CENTER]

      I initially started with Mike Lowe sliders. But it generated too many walks from the opposing pitchers so it was rewarding too much to not move at in at bats. So I decided to switch the FenwayMac sliders in Legend difficulty.
      For sure challenging but I have to say it has been giving a very good result so far.

        Re: [MLB The Show 19] Miami Marlins Renaissance

        When to pull the trigger ?

        At 8-22 in this early May the new Marlins front office faces a decision: when to pull the trigger and what should be the magnitude of the change ?

        So far the lineup is unchanged but a few players are obvious candidates for the trading discussions
        • Starlin Castro, the infielder is in a contract year and unlikely to resign with Miami. He is the best asset Marlins to trade.
        • Curtis Granderson, the veteran has struggled to bring the power bat against right handed pitchers his club was looking for. So he may be in discussions.
        • Sergio Romo, even if he has decent stats the management feels uncomfortable to call his name in high leverage situation. He is as well on a contract year and could be an option.
        • Miguel Rojasm the Marlins still control his future for one more year but with the surprising development of Riddle Rojas playing time has dropped and he is now more in a platoon role. A role which may push his team.
        • Lewis Brinson, yes Lewis Brinson could be done in Miami. The former top prospect has been a real disappointment for both Milwaukee and Miami. How long before the Marlins give up on him ?

          Dear all,

          Quick update.
          I stopped the story because i could not get in the fact to not play every games.
          Then I saw Cyclomaniac roster and... in fact a new era of MLB the Show became obvious for me. More to come soon
