Mariner Woes Continue With Loss to Astros

Seattle - Marco Gonzales pitched a solid six innings only giving up two runs, but the Mariner offense, and bullpen could not make that effort worth while as they scored just one run off Gerrit Cole to drop one to the Astros 5-1. Seattle was in the game until the 8th inning when Houston loaded the bases on Sam Tuivailala. Then Robinson Chirinos hit a bases clearing double that put the game out of reach for the Mariners, who have lost 8 of 9. They will look to turn that around tomorrow when Yusei Kikuchi (2-3, 3.88 ERA) matches up with Justin Verlander (5-2, 2.54 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 pm.

Mariners Fall to Astros in Extras

Seattle - The Mariners got a stellar outing from Yusei Kikuchi, and handed Will Harris his first blown save of the year when Dan Vogelbach went yard in the bottom of the ninth inning. In the end however Houston outlasted the Mariners in extra innings to take a 6-3 win. George Springer hit two homers for the Astros, who sent the M's to their fifth straight loss, and 9 out of their last 10. The Mariners will look to take game three of the series, and keep their season from spiraling out of control tomorrow when they send Mike Leake (4-5, 5.13 ERA) to the mound to face Brad Peacock. First pitch is at 7:10 pm.
