Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Defense the Difference as Oakland Squeaks Out Win

Seattle - The Mariners and A's played a close back and forth affair on Monday night, and defensive plays turned out to be a big factor in the outcome. Seattle has struggled all year defensively, last in the league in errors, and fielding percentage, and those warts came out to bite the M's on Monday night. A couple of two base errors in the outfield both led to runs for the A's that each time tied the game up for them. While on the other side Jurickson Profar, and Robbie Grossman both made outstanding plays, Profar robbing Dee Gordon of what looked to be a game tying single with a perfectly timed leap to rob him. Matt Olson broke the tie in the seventh with a lead off homer off Cory Gearrin that proved to be the difference as five Oakland relievers shut the Mariners out down the stretch. Seattle will look to get a split in the series tomorrow night when they send Mike Leake (2-3, 4.15 ERA) to the mound to face Eduardo Rodriguez (4-2, 2.84 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 pm.

Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Mariners Hang On for 5-4 Win

Seattle - A day after defensive miscues cost Seattle a win, it was a stellar defensive play from Edwin Encarnacion with a back-handed flip on a slow grounder to end the game and preserve a 5-4 win. Edwin contributed with the bat as well with a solo home run. One of three Mariner homers on the day that supplied all of the offense for Seattle. Mike Leake was able to power through seven innings to hand it over to the bullpen who shut it down for the win. The win earned Seattle a split in the series, and some momentum heading into a rare off day at home. Seattle will be back here Thursday welcoming the Minnesota Twins into town for a four-game series. It'll be Wade LeBlanc (5-2, 4.06 ERA) taking the mound for the Mariners opposite Jake Odorizzi (2-3, 7.82 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm.

Twins Slam Way to 8-4 Win

Seattle - The Mariners, and Twins traded blows through the first four innings, but after Connor Sadzeck got in trouble relieving Wade LeBlanc in the fifth, one costly mistake cost the Mariners on the evening, as Jordany Valdespin, who was just called up before the game, sent a bases loaded pitch into the right field seats to break the 4-4 tie with a grand slam, and that was it for the offense as that ended up the final score. Seattle had some bad luck early on as a sure two run double by Mitch Haniger hopped the fence, allowing only one run to score. Jay Bruce also popped up with a runner on third in another run scoring opportunity by the Mariners gone by the wayside. Seattle fell back to .500 at 23-23, and will look to go back above the line tomorrow when the King's Court is in session at T-Mobile Park. It'll be Felix Hernandez (2-4, 5.56 ERA) taking the hill against Martin Perez (5-1, 4.12 ERA). First pitch will be at 7:10 pm.

Mariners Running Out of Answers in Another Loss

Seattle - Seattle got a solid start from Felix Hernandez as he went seven innings and left the game tied up, but the bullpen let him down in the ninth as once again the pesky Jordany Valdespin did the Mariners in with a home run. This time of the solo variety. Then a misplayed liner from Nelson Cruz by Jay Bruce ended any hopes of a Mariner comeback as the Twins scored three runs in the ninth for a 6-3 win. After falling behind early Tim Beckham brought the Mariners back into it with a two run homer. His second in as many games that tied the game at three. Felix was solid after giving up the 3-0 holding the Twins at bay while Seattle came back, but in the end it was more bad defense and pitching that left the Mariners searching for answers as they fell back below the .500 mark. Seattle will look to get back to even tomorrow when they send Marco Gonzales (4-5, 4.53 ERA) to the mound to face former Mariner Michael Pineda (1-5, 5.59 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm.

Gonzales' Stellar Outing Puts M's Back in Win Column

Seattle - The Mariners needed their ace to step up, and stop the bleeding on Saturday night, and that's exactly what they got. Marco Gonzales hurled eight brilliant innings striking out nine batters while allowing only one run. Meanwhile Daniel Vogelbach, and Ryon Healy supplied the power as Seattle coasted to a 7-1 win. The Mariners were behind 1-0 until the sixth inning, when Vogelbach blasted a three run homer to finally give them the lead. Seattle got insurance in the bottom of the eighth with a four run inning, lead by Ryon Healy's two run double that killed any hopes of a Minnesota comeback. Seattle will look for a series split tomorrow afternoon when they send Yusei Kikuchi (1-2, 4.32 ERA) to the mound to face Jose Berrios (2-3, 4.89 ERA). First pitch is at 1:10 pm.

Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Mariners Get Wild Walk-Off in Extras

Seattle - The Mariners had to scratch and claw their way to victory on Sunday afternoon. After a good outing from Yusei Kikuchi in which he only gave up three hits, the Mariners found themselves down 3-0 entering the late innings. Starter Jose Berrios was cruising for Minnesota as the M's just had two hits themselves, but the red hot Tim Beckham was able to smack his third home run of the series to cut it to 3-1, and chase the Minnesota starter. Then after Edwin Encarnacion was able to get on with a single, Jay Bruce hit an absolute mammoth shot off of the Hit it Here cafe that tied the game up at 3-3. Seattle threatened in both the 8th and the 9th innings but Minnesota was able to escape bot times with the tie game in tact. In the 10th inning however their defenses were finally broken through after Omar Narvaez, and Dee Gordon singled. Narvaez was pinch run for by Dylan Moore which proved to be a great move, as a wild pitch sailed by Minnesota catcher Willians Astudillo, Dylan Moore was able to race home with the winning run. The win brings Seattle back above .500, and earned them a split in the series, and the home stand. Seattle will head out for a six-game road trip as they enter a stretch of twenty straight games against AL West opponents that will really make a difference in how this season unfolds. It starts tomorrow evening in Texas when they send Mike Leake (3-3, 4.28 ERA) to the mound to face Shelby Miller (4-2, 3.38 ERA). First pitch will be at 5:05 pm.

Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Astros Surge Into First Place

After a slow start to the season, the favorites in the AL West have rounded into form over the last couple of weeks. An 11-2 stretch has seen them take over first place in the division after trailing the Los Angeles Angles for the majority of the start of the season. The Astros bats have lead the way as they have scored 87 runs over that thirteen game stretch. Seattle, and the rest of the teams in the division will have a hard time running the 'Stros down if they continue to swing the bats like this.

Re: True to the Blue | Mariners Show '19 Franchise

Mariners Fall to Rangers 5-3

Arlington - Shin Soo-Choo hit a three run homer to tie the score in the fifth, and the Mariners offense couldn't put together any more runs after a big third inning against Texas starter Shelby Miller, as the Ranger bullpen held them in check to earn a 5-3 win. Seattle jumped out to a 3-0 lead after RBI singles by Mitch Haniger and Tim Beckham, but Ryon Healy grounded into a double play that ended the threat of a monster inning, and Seattle couldn't get on track afterwards. Mike Leake was cruising through the first 4.2 innings, until giving up back to back singles with two outs before Choo turned on an inside curveball and launched it into the right field seats to tie the game. Leake got knocked around hard in the sixth as well giving up four straight hits, and another run before being pulled. The loss knocked Seattle back down to .500 at 25-25. The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow when Wade LeBlanc (5-2, 4.47 ERA) takes the mound against Drew Smyly (1-4, 8.59 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
