Restoring the ROAR: Detroit Tigers Edition(MLB The Show 20)

Hello and WELCOME BASEBALL FANS, to another wonderful season of MLB Baseball on the Show. This year, I have decided to take on the challenge of playing with my beloved hometown team, and I look to take them to the next level! I want to keep this short and sweet so that I can get into the actual games, but here is a quick recap. So far I am 18 games in, and that's where I will now be starting my recaps. As for the setup? I'll be recapping every single series as I get through it, with standings updates on the Sunday of each week(So about 2 series or so between each update, along with league news and other things that you should need to know. In the next post I will have the current Roster/Depth Chart and Stats, just to get y'all caught up. And then after that it'll be onto the TWIN CITIES as the Tigers will look to win a 3 game series against a Minnesota team who is seriously struggling. Thanks for tagging along on this journey, as I hope to get through 2-3 seasons this year, and then carry it over next year! It's an exciting time in Detroit, with many big contracts set to expire(Minus Miggy unless we get a trade offer, fingers crossed) and many big name prospects coming up, the next couple years should be exciting. So COME join along for the ride!
(AND PLEASE BEAR WITH ANY STRUGGLES I MAY HAVE, AS THIS IS MY FIRST TIME EVER DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS.)

For those wondering, I will be using the FULL MINORS Roster that was the first updated Version, as well as Mike Lowes Sliders, as they work fantastic, especially for playing an entire season

Re: Restoring the ROAR: Detroit Tigers Edition(MLB The Show 20)

So far in the season, the Tigers have got off to a surprising start. After getting swept in 3 games @ Cleveland, they took both games vs. KC at home, before splitting a 4 gamer with the Tribe at home. Then your beloved Tigers went on the road to KC(I know, we play the same teams a LOT to open the year!) and took the final 2/3. Then before the Angels series, the Tigers decided they had seen enough of Mr. Jonathan Schoop, and shipped him to Oakland, as he was hitting sub .200 for the club with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts, in hope that he could turn it around on a potentially contending team, who had already lost their starting second baseman. Acquired was P Paul Blackburn, 3B Mikey White, and INF Logan Davidson, for Schoop, OF Brock Deatherage, and SS Willi Castro. Since then, the Tigers have been swept at home by the Angels, and then took 2 of 3 from a vastly underperforming Indians team, and that's where we now sit, going into the Minnnesota series @Target Field.

Re: Restoring the ROAR: Detroit Tigers Edition(MLB The Show 20)

So with all that being said, THIS post is about the current state of the team. Offensively, we have been surprisingly good, and good enough to win games. Because Defensively, and Pitching wise, this is quite a weak team, as you will see in the stats below. Some players have stuck out, like Jake Rogers(Who is now our everyday catcher), Chad Sedio(Who was called up after the Schoop Trade), Miguel Cabrera, Harold Castro, and Niko Goodrum offensively, as well as Michael Fulmer, Joe Jimenez, Zach Duke, and Danny Salazar. So, with all that here are the stats through 18 games, as well as the Depth Chart, and Injury Report for the Squad. And as you will see, there are no minor league injuries, but it is very very early into the season so none of them have suffered anything yet, THANKFULLY

The Tigers came out slow to start the series in Game 1, with a big first inning for the Twinkies, but after that they soon settled down with back to back homers in the 4th, as well as another very solid pitching performance from Fulmer, as he continues to bounce back from the past two years.

Game 2 once again started out very slow for the Tigers, and it ultimately cost them. Turnbull turned in his best performance of the year, going 5 strong with only 2 runs, but the offensive didn't wake up until the 8th inning, after being dominated by Berrios all game long. Cabrera, Cron, and Rogers continue to be very hot for the Tigers in the series.

In the finale, the Tiger bats came alive, as well as Boyd having his best perfomance of the series, as the Tigers shut down the home crowd early and often in this one. After going up 3-0 in the 3rd, they never looked back and Matthew Boyd went a strong 7.2 innings(in which both runs given up were HRs). The Tigers capatilized on a Minnesota team who is very much struggling, and took 2/3 for the third consecutive road divisional series that they have played. Overall, the Tigers have been suprisingly good this year with a killer offensive approach and have been very fun to watch while only sitting 5.5 GB of the AL Central lead. They now head home to Comerica for a week long homestand, versus the New York Yankees for 4, and then the San Diego Padres for 3.

Tentative Starters for the Yankees series are: Paxton v. Norris, Tanaka v. Zimmermann, Montgomery v. Fulmer, and Cole v. Turnbull. Thanks for reading, if you have any suggestions, please let me know!

For some reason, I GOOFED and put game three first and last, so here is game one!!

Re: Restoring the ROAR: Detroit Tigers Edition(MLB The Show 20)

              Yankees @ Tigers (4G)

This was a series that pitted a very successful Yankees team versus a very overachieving Tigers team here early in the season, at Comerica Park. Comerica was popping for this entire series, as both teams came in playing good baseball, like I just said.

Game 1 was very interesting. The Tigers would get to Paxton first, striking early and getting him out of the game. But in between those two successful innings, the Yankees would blast Norris for 5 runs, ruining a otherwise very succesfull start, as he went 7. The Yanks would strike for a tying run in the Top 9 with a Jimenez, but Candelario would hit the huge double to give the Tigers game 1.

Game 3 was the Tigers from the START, even though it would get close late. Zimmermann pitched a beautiful game, continuing a good string of pitching for the Tigers, and they scored 7 in the first 3 innings and never looked back. Candelario continues to beat up Yankees pitching.

And for the finale of the series, the Tigers continued their absolute HOT streak to TAKE the series over the Yanks. Goodrum was on fire with opening the game up and walking the game off with a HR. It was a duel from both of the teams best pitchers this year, and Fulmer would come out on top, even with Cole still pitching a very solid game. Overall this series was huge for the Tigers, they did an EXCELLENT job of limiting Judge until game 4, and were able to get very timely pitching and hitting, just surviving with an equal run margin split between the two teams. It was a insanely tight series, and we will see them in the Bronx once again after this series home to the Padres. Joe Jimenez was a little worrying with two blown saves out of three opportunities this series, but we did win every game he pitched in, so we can overlook that for now.

Re: Restoring the ROAR: Detroit Tigers Edition(MLB The Show 20)

So I seem to have lost the Box scores for the Padres series. Oh well, you didn't miss out on anything! The Tigers dropped the first 2-6 and 3-4 after having early 2 run leads in both. Short stints by our starters, and bad bullpen performances coupled with good pitching by the Friars did us in. In Game 3 however, we did JUST enough to avoid a sweep. A oppo homer in the eighth by Maybin was the only run and we snuck out with a win in a game where we were outhit 10-3. But a win is a win, and we were over .500 for the homestand! So now onto the Bronx, to play the Yankees for the second time in as many weeks, this time it will only be 3 games, and it starts off a six game road trip where we will also make it to play KC once again. Tigers are still 3.5 GB in the Central, somehow sitting in second place!

Probable Starters are Zimmermann v Montgomery, Fulmer v Cole, and Turnbull v Severino.

It looks to be tough but the Tigers will try their best to WIN the season series versus the hated Yankees.
