Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Keuchel Shuts Down Blue Jays on Canada Day

Canada's team couldn't get it going on Canada Day as the Toronto Blue Jays fell to the Chicago White Sox by a final score of 4-2. Dallas Keuchel worked in and out of trouble over eight spectacular innings for the White Sox, who launched two homers in the win.

Tim Anderson and Leury Garcia both went deep for the White Sox, who got on the board early in the first inning thanks to a RBI single off the bat of Eloy Jimenez. Interestingly enough, Jimenez's first inning single came off of Blue Jays reliever Shun Yamaguchi, who was forced to enter the game after Toronto starter Hyun-Jin Ryu left the ballgame with a lower body injury.

Fortunately for the Blue Jays, Ryu remains optimistic that he will be able to make his next start. The prized offseason signee has battled with his fair share of injuries this season, forcing him to miss several starts at the beginning of the season. As it stands right now, Ryu is listed as day-to-day with a left leg injury.

On the other hand, Chicago's starter Dallas Keuchel had absolutely no problem throwing the ball. The former Astros southpaw was able to work his way around nine hits and two walks in order to hold the Blue Jays to just one run over eight innings. The veteran lefty threw 113 pitches before he gave way to closer Aaron Bummer in the ninth inning.

The Blue Jays were able to score early thanks to an RBI single from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. but were held silent in their red Canada Day uniforms until the ninth inning, when rookie Logan Warmoth tacked on another run with an RBI sac-fly.

The Blue Jays and White Sox will battle for the series victory in the third and final game of their three-game set tomorrow evening. The Blue Jays will be hopeful that starter Chase Anderson can give them some inning after relying heavily on the bullpen to get through today's game.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Anderson Shuts Down White Sox In Series Finale

One day after getting shut down by Dallas Keuchel, the Toronto Blue Jays and starter Chase Anderson returned the favour in a 3-1 victory in the third and final game of the series between the two clubs.

Toronto was looking for Anderson to eat some innings after burning several bullpen arms the day before and the former Milwaukee Brewer delivered. Anderson turned in arguably his best start of the season, limiting the White Sox to just one run on five hits over seven innings of work. The veteran righty struck out seven on the way to his eighth victory of the season.

Ironically, it was the White Sox who got on the board first when speedy outfielder Luis Robert was able to come around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Danny Mendick. That would be all Chicago could muster against the Blue Jays, who picked up their 55th win of the season.

Toronto tied things up in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. absolutely connected on a fastball down the middle from White Sox starter Carlos Rodon. The 419 foot blast was Guerrero Jr.'s 13th homer of the season. The Blue Jays weren't done there, as they added runs in each of the next two innings thanks to a double from rookie Logan Warmoth and sacrifice fly from Adam Frazier.

With the win, the Blue Jays head into their weekend series against the New York Yankees trailing them by only one game for the top spot in the American League East standings. The Yankees have been on a red-hot winning streak and will look to extend their lead over the Blue Jays in a crucial series before the All Star break.

Game Notes
The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays go head-to-head in a three game series as they battle for the top spot in the American League East standings. New York enters the matchup with a 9-1 record over their last 10 games and sit one game up on the Blue Jays despite dealing with injuries to key starter Gary Sanchez and James Paxton.

The Blue Jays themselves have been dealing with their fair share of injuries, as they continue to be without young stars Bo Bichette and [b]Cavan Biggio[/B} among some other regulars. Runs have been hard to come by for the injury-riddled Toronto lineup and it will be up to their pitching staff to keep them in the game against the notoriously free-swinging Yankees lineup.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Yankees Hold On Late Against Blue Jays

The New York Yankees showed why they are the top seed in the American League East with a narrow 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. New York features one of the league's most feared lineups and they showed exactly why against Blue Jays starter Tanner Roark, scoring in each of first three innings in Friday night's victory.

Aaron Hicks drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies for the Yankees, who got an RBI single from Gleyber Torres in the first inning and a solo blast from Luke Voit in the following frame.

Although the Blue Jays went down early, the young club showed exactly why they remain within striking distance in the American League East. Toronto fought their way back to within one run thanks largely in part to a pair of solo homers from catcher Danny Jansen and young slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. With the Blue Jays bullpen keeping the Yankees' lineup at bay, the Blue Jays loaded the bases in both in the seventh and ninth inning but were unable to scratch across a run.

Aaron Judge preserved the lead for the Yankees in the seventh inning, when Randal Grichuk skied a fly ball out to right field. Off the bat, it looked like the deep fly ball would be more than enough to score Adam Frazier from third base. Judge had other plans, as he unleashed an absolute strike to home plate just in time to get the Blue Jays infielder and keep his club ahead by one run.

Masahiro Tanaka allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings of work for the Yankees as he picked up his ninth win of the season. Aroldis Chapman worked his way around a bases-loaded situation in the ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to pick up his 28th save of the season and seal the deal on the Yankees' 57th victory of the season.

The Blue Jays will look to make up some ground on their division rivals tomorrow afternoon as they go head-to-head against the Yankees in the second game of their weekend matchup.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Embarrass Montgomery In Blowout Win

The Toronto Blue Jays bounced back from a Friday night loss with a seven homer performance against the New York Yankees on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a 11-4 blowout victory. Rowdy Tellez and Billy McKinney both went deep twice for the Blue Jays, who also got homers from Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Danny Jansen as part of a first inning barrage against New York starter Jordan Montgomery.

In fact, Montgomery would not be able to record an out in the first inning before manager Aaron Boone pulled the plug on the southpaw. Up to that point, the Blue Jays had gone back-to-back-to-back-to-back off Montgomery, starting with a three-run blast off the bat of Gurriel Jr. and ending with a solo shot from Jansen. When it was all said and done, the Yankees found themselves trailing 6-0 before they had even recorded an out in the first inning of the ballgame.

While Montgomery clearly didn't have his best stuff (or any stuff for that matter), Toronto starter Matt Shoemaker continued his dominant season, picking up his 11th win of the season with 6 2/3 innings of work. Shoemaker's only mistake was a hanging changeup to Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who crushed it into the left field seats for his 25th homer of the season. Aside from that, the early season Cy Young candidate picked up 11 strikeouts, including the first six batters he faced.

The Blue Jays will look to continue the roll on offence and pick up a win in the third and final game of their weekend series tomorrow afternoon. A win would help Toronto make up some ground on the division leading Yankees as the All Star break looms in the near future.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Early Offence Powers Blue Jays To Win Over Yankees

A day after launching seven homers in a win over the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays' offence kept up the pace through the first half of their Sunday afternoon rubber match against a Yankees pitching staff that has looked shaky in the second half of a three game series between the two clubs. Thanks largely in part to a three-run home run from light-hitting shortstop J.T. Riddle, a 6-4 victory on Sunday put Toronto into a tie with New York for first place in the American League East standings.

After connecting for back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers off Jordan Montgomery in Saturday's victory, the Blue Jays got started in similar fashion on Sunday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. teamed up to go back-to-back with a pair of solo home runs in the first inning against Yankees starter Jonathan Loaisiga. While he faired better than Montgomery did yesterday, Loaisiga struggled through four innings of work, surrendering six runs on seven hits as the Blue Jays watched their offence continue rolling.

Blue Jays starter Trent Thornton picked up his ninth win of the season with 5 2/3 stellar innings, scattering four hits while striking out seven -- an impressive feat against a stacked Yankees lineup.

New York managed to make things interesting after Thornton's departure, putting up two runs in both the seventh and eighth inning against reliever Sam Gaviglio. New York was able to get the offence going thanks to a two-run blast from 2017 Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge. Canadian righty Jordan Romano was able to work his way out of a eighth inning jam in order to preserve Toronto's lead and set the table up for Ken Giles to pick up his 30th win of the season.

The loss marks a disappointing road trip for the Yankees, who were looking to pad their lead in the American League East standings but instead saw their lead vanish. The Blue Jays will hit the road for a nine game road trip before a much-needed All Star break. Toronto will kick off a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox tomorrow evening at Fenway Park in Boston.

Game Notes
The Toronto Blue Jays head onto the road after an important series win over the weekend against the New York Yankees. Taking two out of three against the Yankees, Toronto enters play on Monday tied with New York for first place in the American League East standings. Th Boston Red Sox on the other hand, have disappointed this season. The Red Sox have struggled to prevent runs, allowing 433 runs to score so far this season while holding a 43-47 record.

Boston will look to take advantage of injuries to key players in the Toronto lineup to try to spoil the Blue Jays' recent success. In their own right, Toronto has had players such as J.T. Riddle and Billy McKinney step up in a big way in wake of all the injuries that they have dealt with. The Blue Jays will look to put together a win streak against an underachieving Red Sox team as they inch closer and closer to a much needed All Star Break.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Sale Dominates As Red Sox Squeeze Past Jays

Chris Sale showed why he is a perennial Cy Young candidate and the Boston Red Sox squeezed past the Toronto Blue Jays by a 2-1 score on Monday evening. Sale picked up his 11th win of the season, out-duelling Blue Jays southpaw Hyun-Jin Ryu with an impressive 13 strikeout performance.

All in all, Sale allowed just five hits over 6 2/3 innings of work while striking out 13 Blue Jays batters. Randal Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez fell victim to Sale's nasty slider three times each, contributing to almost half of Toronto's strikeouts. Ryu himself didn't pitch poorly, going 7 2/3 innings while surrendering two runs. Ryu didn't have the swing-and-miss stuff that he usually has, relying on weak contact to get outs. The Korean lefty recorded just three strikeouts as he was handed his fifth loss of the season.

The Red Sox scored both of their runs off Ryu in the fourth inning, when a Rafael Devers double tied the game at one run a piece before a RBI single from catcher Christian Vazquez would give the Red Sox a lead they would cherish.

It took an error from Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland for the Blue Jays to finally put a run on the board in the top of the fourth inning, when Reuben Tejada lined a RBI single to right field to allow Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to scamper home. Sale proved to be almost untouchable for the Blue Jays, who were unable to induce much hard contact against the Boston ace. As a matter of fact, the lanky lefty was able to strikeout every batter in the Blue Jays starting lineup at least once.

Toronto will look to bounce back from a tough loss tomorrow evening as they are faced with a much easier pitching matchup. Eduardo Rodriguez (5-6, 4.28) will get the ball for the Red Sox as the Blue Jays send Chase Anderson (8-4, 3.53) to the mound looking for his ninth win of the season.
