Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Rangers Go Deep Four Times, Snap Jays Win Streak

The Texas Rangers became the first team to beat the Toronto Blue Jays in the month of May with a four home run performance that snapped the Blue Jays' wi streak at 11 games.

Wilie Calhoun, Joey Gallo, Rougned Odor, and Shin-Soo Choo all went deep for the Rangers, who crawled out of a three-run deficit with a five-run seventh inning. Blue Jays reliever Anthony Bass was tagged for three runs on five hits in just 2/3 innings of action and was saddled with his first loss of the season.

Blue Jays starter Matt Shoemaker didn't pitch poorly, but had trouble avoiding the long ball against a left-handed heavy Rangers lineup. Shoemaker would pick up the no-decision and finish the ballgame with six innings of work while allowing five runs on seven hits. Shoemaker was chased from the ballgame without recording an out in the seventh inning after Rougned Odor went deep to tie the ballgame at five each.

Texas Rangers starter Mike Minor did just enough to slow down a red-hot Blue Jays lineup, tossing 5 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on four hits. The Blue Jays did most of their damage against Minor in the 2nd inning, when Cavan Biggio took him deep for a three-run blast that gave the Blue Jays the lead at the time.

The Blue Jays continue their road trip as they travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox. The two clubs kick off a four game weekend series tomorrow evening.

Game Notes
The Blue Jays suffered their first lost of the month of May in the series finale against the Texas Rangers and will be looking to bounce back in a four game series on the road against the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox have played up to expectations thus far this season, posting a 23-20 record that is good enough to place them in second place in the American League Central standings.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has been on an absolute tear at the plate for the Blue Jays, hitting over .500 in his last five games and boosting his season batting average to .333. With Teoscar Hernandez and Cavan Biggio heating up at the bottom of the lineup, the Blue Jays now boast one of the most dangerous line-ups in the league. Tim Anderson continues to tear the cover off the ball for the White Sox, going deep nine times this season to go along with an impressive .331 batting average. Paired with former Blue Jay Edwin Encarnacion and star offseason signee Yasmani Grandal, the White Sox may have one of the most underrated line-ups in the league, boasting a .282 team batting average and .450 team slugging percentage.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Gonzalez Shuts Down Blue Jays As White Sox Take Opener

Gio Gonzalez dominated over 6 2/3 innings of work and the Chicago White Sox got a couple of key homers as they handed the Blue Jays their second loss in as many games on Thursday evening.

Gonzalez kept the Blue Jays lineup off balance all evening long, working into the seventh inning allowing just four hits while striking out eight batters. Gonzalez's only mistake came on his final pitch of the ballgame, when Blue Jays outfielder Billy McKinney laced a two-run double into the right field gap to chase the veteran southpaw from the game.

The White Sox received a big boost of offence from prized free agent signee Yasmani Grandal, who took Blue Jays starter Trent Thornton 423 feet deep in the 2nd inning to give the White Sox a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The White Sox also received some insurance late in the ballgame, when Yoan Moncada picked up and RBI single in the 7th and Jose Abreu launched his eighth homer of the season in the next inning.

Thornton, who entered the ballgame with hopes of helping the Blue Jays bounce back from a loss against the Texas Rangers, just didn't have his best stuff on Thursday night. The sophomore starter lasted five innings, working around eight hits while surrendering three runs - all of which came on Grandal's homer.

The Blue Jays look to get back into the win column tomorrow evening as the two teams go back at it, with Chase Anderson getting the starter against Reynaldo Lopez.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Five Run Fifth Propels Jays To Victory Over White Sox

After dropping their last two ballgames, the Toronto Blue Jays bounced back with a 6-5 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday evening, surviving a late Chicago rally to pick up their 31st win of the season.

Catcher Danny Jansen led the way for the Blue Jays, going 3-for-4, driving in three of the Blue Jays' six runs, including a solo home run that proved to be the difference maker in the seventh inning. The Blue Jays would do almost all of their damage in the fifth inning, when they finally got to White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez. Lopez had cruised through his first few innings of work, and had yet to surrender a hit to the Blue Jays at that point. That's when the wheels fell off. The Blue Jays would chase the hard throwing righty from the ballgame with Teoscar Hernandez picking up an RBI double before two runs would come in to score on a Danny Jansen single up the middle. The final blow would come off the bat of Randal Grichuk who laced a double down the right field line that plated two more runs, signalling the end of the day for Lopez.

However, the White Sox wouldn't go away quietly, as a two-run single from James McCann in the sixth inning would chase Blue Jays starter Chase Anderson from the ballgame. Anderson went 5 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits on the way to his fifth win of the season.

The White Sox would make things interesting in the eighth inning, as Nomar Mazara would take Blue Jays reliever Anthony Bass deep with a 436-foot blast that would bring the White Sox within one run. Ken Giles would work himself out of a runners-at-the-corners situation to nail down his 17th save of the season as the Blue Jays snapped their short losing streak.

The Blue Jays and White Sox go back at it tomorrow evening as White Sox starter Lucas Giolito continues the hunt for his first win of the season.

I gotta ask, where are you getting the "Matchup Preview" box coding? I'm not seeing it in the Baseball tables.

I've actually taken one of the other Matchup Preview tables and changed the code myself to make it look like an MLB one.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

McKinney Continues Hot Start, Jays Top White Sox

Billy McKinney is making a case to be in the everyday line-up for Charlie Montoyo and his Toronto Blue Jays. McKinney raised his season batting average to an astronomical .519 with a 4-for-5 performance on Saturday night as he led the Blue Jays to a 5-2 victory.

McKinney picked up 4 RBIs and went deep twice with a two-run homer in the 3rd inning and again in the 7th inning. The Blue Jays' one other run came courtesy of a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. RBI double. Blue Jays starter Hyun-Jin Ryu went an impressive eight innings of work surrendering two runs in the 6th inning on four hits.

The White Sox didn't have similar luck with their starter, as Lucas Giolito was forced to exit the ballgame after just one inning of work due to a strained oblique. Interestingly enough, the White Sox opted to go with Reynaldo Lopez despite the fact that Lopez tossed 4 1/3 innings last night. Unsurprisingly, the Blue Jays would get to Lopez for two runs on five hits over two innings of work before the rest of the White Sox bullpen took over. The White Sox got all their offence in the sixth inning thanks to a Luis Robert RBI single and Yoan Moncada RBI groundout.

The White Sox and Blue Jays wrap up their four game series tomorrow afternoon as Chicago tries to complete a series split.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Wrap Up Road Trip With Win Over White Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up a very successful road trip with a 7-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays did most of their damage in the sixth inning against White Sox reliever Jace Fry, who had come on to relieve starter Dallas Keuchel but could not escape the inning.

Randal Grichuk went deep for the Blue Jays in the second inning, but the team would get their other six runs on RBI singles. As a team that has displayed tremendous power in the month of May, the Blue Jays resorted to more traditional ways of manufacturing runs on Sunday evening. Teoscar Hernandez, Jonathan Davis and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. all picked up RBI singles to provide starter Tanner Roark with some run support.

Roark picked up his fifth win of the season with 6 2/3 innings of work, surrendering two runs while working around eight hits. The White Sox would get two of their three runs in the form of solo home runs, with former Blue Jays Edwin Encarnacion and White Sox superstar Tim Anderson both going deep in the loss.

The Blue Jays return home for the first time in two weeks as they fly north of the border to take on the Houston Astros in a three game set starting tomorrow evening at the Rogers Center.
