Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)
Five Run Fifth Propels Jays To Victory Over White Sox
After dropping their last two ballgames, the Toronto Blue Jays bounced back with a 6-5 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday evening, surviving a late Chicago rally to pick up their 31st win of the season.
Catcher Danny Jansen led the way for the Blue Jays, going 3-for-4, driving in three of the Blue Jays' six runs, including a solo home run that proved to be the difference maker in the seventh inning. The Blue Jays would do almost all of their damage in the fifth inning, when they finally got to White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez. Lopez had cruised through his first few innings of work, and had yet to surrender a hit to the Blue Jays at that point. That's when the wheels fell off. The Blue Jays would chase the hard throwing righty from the ballgame with Teoscar Hernandez picking up an RBI double before two runs would come in to score on a Danny Jansen single up the middle. The final blow would come off the bat of Randal Grichuk who laced a double down the right field line that plated two more runs, signalling the end of the day for Lopez.
However, the White Sox wouldn't go away quietly, as a two-run single from James McCann in the sixth inning would chase Blue Jays starter Chase Anderson from the ballgame. Anderson went 5 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits on the way to his fifth win of the season.
The White Sox would make things interesting in the eighth inning, as Nomar Mazara would take Blue Jays reliever Anthony Bass deep with a 436-foot blast that would bring the White Sox within one run. Ken Giles would work himself out of a runners-at-the-corners situation to nail down his 17th save of the season as the Blue Jays snapped their short losing streak.
The Blue Jays and White Sox go back at it tomorrow evening as White Sox starter Lucas Giolito continues the hunt for his first win of the season.
