BRONCOS START YEAR 4-0!!!

Boise State took full advantage to a 4 game home stand kicking off the 2010-2011 season with 4 straight wins including a rematch win over Portland State and a win over Coach Scott's former team in UC Riverside.

Here is a look at each game.

NORTHERN COLORADO (FINAL 98-59)

The Broncos finished just 1 bucket shy of hitting 100 after scoring 50 points in the 1st half. BSU shot a amazing 10/24 from 3pt including a 4/6 performance by SR J. Plummer who led the bench with 17 points.

Fellow Senior Jesus Kennedy led all scorers with 20 points and 7 rebounds well PG R. Cowans added 14 pts and 5 assists.

PORTLAND STATE (FINAL 92-66)

5 players scored in double digits well the Broncos closed in on 100 yet again despite only 8/22 from 3pt. BSU was led by JR PF R. Len Bullicer "The Frenchman" with 17 points and 8 rebounds well PG R. Cowans (14 pts 9 assists) and Jesus Kennedy (12 pts 5 rebs) also hit double digits again.

Off the bench it was Freshman R. Pekkola (12 pts 2/5 3pt) and I. Dilligard (10 pts 5 reb 3 blks) leading the way for the 2nd unit.

**Injury update FR PF V. Rasumussen played just 4 minutes after breaking his wrist. He is expected to miss the next 3 weeks, as Coach Scott goes to a 9 man rotation.**

PORLTAND (FINAL SCORE 69-68

The Pilots came close to pulling off the "W" but the Broncos 1 point lead in the 1st half holds up.

Despite only scoring 69 points after averaging 95 in their previous 2 games, BSU actually still had a very balance offense attack with all 5 starters scoring in double digits well also getting 10 points from R. Pekkola off the bench.

R. Cowans (11 pts 3 ast), D. Nagata (10 pts 4 reb), D. Andrews (11 pts 5 reb), J. Kennedy (11 pts 5 reb) and R. Len Bullicer who was named POG after a double double with 11 pts 10 reb and 2 blocks.

UC RIVERSIDE (FINAL84-64)

The Highlanders found themselves training (47-28) at the half and never recovered. R. Gordon led the way witih 17 pts 4 reb and 2 blks off the bench after starting 31 games as a Freshman for Coach Scott.

For BSU it was another big night for the "Frenchman" Len Bullicer (15 pts 7 reb and 4 blks) but it was SO SG D. Nagata getting the POG award with 17 pts.

R. Cowans added 10 pts 4 reb and 4 asts, well Jesus Kennedy added 9 pts and 9 reb just missing out on a double double.

R. Pekkola led the bench with 12 pts and was 3/5 from 3pt.

(4-0) BSU WILL NOW TAKE ON (4-2) GONZAGA. THE BULLDOGS OPENED THEIR YEAR WITH A 91-56 WIN OVER PORTLAND STATE BUT A LOSS AT HOME VS Ark-Pine Bluff PLUS A ROAD LOSS @ MICHGAN GIVES COACH SCOTT AND HIS TEAM A BELIEVE THEY CAN MAKE IT 3 IN A ROW.

ROAD WARRIORS!!!

Boise State improved to a school record start as they go a perfect 3-0 on the road with wins over Gonzaga, Oregon State and Cal to improve to 7-0 on the season. BSU is currently 3rd in the Nation in scoring at 89.0 PPG behind Oklahoma State (90.2) and Tennesse (89.4) BSU also leads the nation in Assists at (17.6). As a team BSU is hitting 49% FG, 41% 3pt and 63% from the Free Throw line.

Coach Scott
Quote:
"I mean obviously we are pretty excited to be 7-0 and playing some pretty good basketball, but we could do better from the stripe. We need to get that # up around 75% before the end of the year"

Here is a Recap of the past 3 games.

GONZAGA (W) FINAL SCORE 76-68

The Zags came into the game 4-2, coming off 2 straight loss's but played well in the 1st half but still trailed (34-33). The Broncos however got a huge 2nd half from R. Len Bullicer who scored 14 of his team high 23 pts to lead the Broncos to the win. The Broncos Bench also came up huge in the game scoring 34 pts led by Walkon R. Pekkola who had 13 pts 4 reb and 5 assists well hitting 3/6 from deep. JR Guard J. Toole added 10 pts and 4 assists well also going 2/5 from deep.

**Injury note Senior Jesus Kennedy played just 9 minutes and will miss the next 2 weeks with a strained calf. With V. Rasmussen already out, the Broncos will be left with just 8 active players and will not have a player on the bench taller then 6'7.

OREGON STATE (W) FINAL SCORE 105-97

Freshman Isiah Dilligard got the start at SF, with D. Andres moving to PF and Len Bullicer back to Center leaving Coach Scott just 3 guards as reserves off the bench.

Dilligard's assignment was to guard the man he replaced on scholarship, as the Broncos got a look at E. Malone (80 Overall) who took the OSU scholarship in the final weeks of recruiting.

Dilligard would show why he too was a high 4* recruit as he dominated both sides of the court scoring a season/career high 24 pts well going a perfect 10/10 FG and 2/2 3pt adding 4 rebs 5 assists and 2 steals. On the Defensive side he held Malone to just 3 pts (1/5 FG 1/4 3pt). Malone did manage to grab a team high 8 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

Joining Dilligard in the scoring affair was Len Bullicer who posted a double double with 24 pts and 10 reb well D. Andres played great at PF, scoring 17 pts well grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists.

SG D. Nagata added 15 pts on 3/7 3pt well J. Pllummer led the bench with 11 pts on 2/5 from 3pt.

As a team BSU was 9/18 from beyond the arc but was just 8/31 from the stripe including missing 8/10 in the final minute that allowed OSU to make the game look closer then it was.

Senior SG C. Barlow (22.1 PPG) scored a team high 23 pts 3/5 3pt in the loss well JR PG F. Wiley added 19 pts 5 assists hitting 3/6 3pt.

OSU came into the game with a (5-1 Record)

CAL (W) FINAL SCORE 99-77

The Broncos won the rematch with the Bears who beat them in the Elite 8. Cal came into the game struggling with just a (3-3) record, and trailed (47-40) at the half.

BSU just missed scoring over the century mark for a 2nd straight game as they hit 16/24 from 3pt but were just 17/28 yet again from the Free Throw line.

Coach Scott
Quote:
"Again we had the opportunity to score 11 free points that we just gave away. Yes I am happy we got the win but we can't expect to hit 16 3's in a game and shoot 66%"
Soph D. Nagata led the way with 20 pts hitting 6/7 from deep, well R. Len Bullicer tied him for the team high with 20 pts as well as grabbing a team high 8 rebounds and having a team high 3 blks.

Len Bullicer is averaging 22.3 PPG the past 3 games after the loss of Kennedy.

I. Dilligard followed up his 24 point performance with 13 pts hitting 2/3 3pt and was a perfect 5/5 from the stripe.

J. Plummer (13 pts 3/5 3pt) and R. Pekkola (11 pts 2/3 3pt) led the bench, well R. Cowans ahd 10 pts and a team high 5 assists.

BSU (7-0) WILL TAKE ON (2-5) MONTANA STATE AT HOME NEXT FRIDAY AS THEIR ONLY GAME OF THE WEEK.

Re: SCOTT RETURNS TO CH2K8

BRONCOS STAY PERFECT MOVE TO 9-0

After 3 huge road wins, BSU returned home for their final 2 home games of the non-conference schedule hosting Montana State and LMU as the in-season recruiting season also wrapped up. Well the Broncos stayed perfect on the court, Coach Scott suffered a little setback off the court failing to sign anyone with his 4 scholarships available, leaving the staff the rest of the season before they will find out who and who won't be joining BSU next season. Before we take a look at the Recruiting and a Top-25 update here is a recap of the past 2 games.

MONTANA STATE (W) FINAL SCORE 89-58

BSU dominated the 1st half taking a (40-26) lead into the locker room and never let up as they outscore the Bobcats (49-32) in the 2nd half.

MSU went just 2/6 from beyond the arc and only 6/13 from the free throw line and were led by U. 6'11 SR Urule Lett who had 13 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

For Boise State still playing with a 8 man rotation it was R. Len Bullicer continuing to carry the load with 24 pts, 4 rebs, 3 steals and 3 blocks, well SO SG D. Nagata added 12 pts and 8 assists hitting 4/8 from 3pt and D. Andres added 11 pts and 9 rebounds coming up just 1 shy of a double double.

However the biggest surprise was Junior Joseph Toole who had a career high 17 points off the bench.

LMU (W) FINAL SCORE 93-82

LMU came into the game (8-2) and was playing some great basketball coming in with 3 straight wins including La Tech, San Jose State and Air Force, but Boise State was lights out from deep hitting 10/23 in the game..

PG R. Cowans had a season high 18 pts hitting 2/3 from 3pt, well D. Nagata had a solid game with 14 pts 7 rebs and 6 assists.

JR D. Andres continues to shine in the PF role with 18 pts and was 7/12 from the FT line. R. Len Bullicer added 11 pts and tied Nagata with 7 rebounds for the team high.

SR J. Plummer led the bench with 11 pts hitting 3/5 from deep.

#7 Virginia (8-1)
#8 Georgia Tech (8-1)
#9 Cincinnati (7-1)
#10 Pitt (7-1)
#11 Syracuse (7-1)

#21 UCLA (8-1)
#22 Seton Hall (8-1)
#23 Wisconsin (6-2)
#24 Clemson (9-1)
#25 W. Virginia (7-1)

ACC and Big East are dominating with 4 teams each in the Top-11 but it's the SEC holding down #1 and #2 for now.

Crazy to see only 1 team outside the major conferences in the Media Poll.

The Coaches Poll is al little different, with the #1 Mid-Major College of Charl (8-0) coming in at #24.

Speaking of the Mid Major

Boise State is currently #2 with their perfect 9-0 record, followed by VCU at #3 who is also a perfect (7-0).

(5-1) New Orleans is #4 followed by (7-0) Middle Tennessee at #5.

(7-1) Butler, (6-3) Wichita State, (7-3) Fresno State , (7-3) Nevada and (6-5) Gonzaga round out the Top-10.

RECRUITING UPDATE

The Top-11 players in the nation all made early commitments.

#1 Overall/#1 PG Ruben Underwood (Mr BB TN)-Michigan State
#2 Overall/#2 PG Rico Blancett (Mr BB PA)-Michigan State
# 3 Overall/#1 SF Bryan Bobik (Mr BB CA)-USC
#4 Overall/#1 SG Robby Vianney (Mr BB NV)-USC
#5 Overall/#2 SG Josip Kinloch (Canada)-Syracuse
#6 Overall/#3 PG Wesley Salow (Mr BB TX)-Texas
#7 Overall/#4 PG Omar Nunez (Mr BB IA)-Virginia
#8 Overall/#5 PG Dewitt McCray (Mr BB IL- Michigan State
#9 Overall/#6 PG Vinnie Rodgers (Mr BB NY)-Syracuse
#10 Overall/#7 PG Akin Barlow (Mr BB GA)-Florida State
#11 Overall/#2 SF Paul Kleiza (Mr BB MO)-Kansas State.

Currently #12 Overall and the #3 SG in the class Jeremy Modrovich from Vallejo CA has no scholarship offers and has BYU #1 followed by Washington and Boise State at #3.

Coach Scott
Quote:
"To be honest we felt pretty good about out depth at SG, so we hadn't really even scouted Modrovich, but after realizing the kid hadn't signed, it's pretty hard no to take a look at a 5* AA. who shot 48% (20/41) from 3pt this past summer and averaged 12.3 PPG"
Well Coach Scott wasn't really looking at Modrovich, he and the BSU staff are all in with 5* AA PG Aaron Badiane (Mr BB CO). Ranked #13 Overall and the #8 PG in the class, Badiane currently holds a scholarship offer from the Broncos and is 93% committed, but he does have a Scholarship offer from Air Force who holds his #1 spot.

Coach Scott
Quote:
Our current PG is a 3 yr starter in JR R. Cowans, but we feel like Badiane is a talent we couldn't pass up the opportunity to sign and have a 4 year starter potentially and a future NBA player. Air Force could be tough to catch as he currently looks to stay close to his home (Longmont Colorado)
Badiane isn't the only PG to get a offer from Boise State. BSU has also offered 5'9 Wade Blancett from San Rafael CA. Blancett is ranked #52 Overall and the #27 PG in the class. This past summer he put up 17.8 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 3.4 APG, and 1.3 SPG well shooting 37% from 3pt in the ABL.

Coach Scott
Quote:
"Well we view Badiane as a instant starter we think Blancett would be a potent scorer off our bench next year and would give us 2 dominating PG for the next 4 years. If we don't land Badiane, I think we would potentially think about a redshirt on Wade and allow him to be a 4 year starter after Cowans graduates."
BSU went into the season with 4 scholarships to offer but are currently holding 1 back offering just 1 scholarship left. But it's a big one.

With 7'0 Jesus Kennedy set to graduate and 6'11 R. Len Bullicer a Junior, Coach Scott knew landing a big man was key to this recruiting class.

4* (#40 Overall #1 Center) 6'10 Ramon Deng was a early target and has been on Coach Scott's radar since his UCR days but the Los Angeles native is staying home and playing for UCLA. The Bruins also nabbed his high school teammate 6'10 Khalif Reaves (3*, #111 Overall/# 3 C) as well.

6'10 Thomas Didlake (3* #136/#4 C) from Reno Nevada also spurned the Broncos and signed with Nevada and will play BSU the next 4 years instead.

6'11 Randall Fofana (3* #133 Overball/#5 C) from Seattle WA followed suit and will stay home to play for the Huskies.

With 4 of the Top-5 Centers signed, Coach Scott is all in with 7'0 Jave Fall from Oklahoma City. Ranked #62 Overall and the #2 C, Fall was Oklahoma's Mr BB and posted 13..0 PPG, 10.8 RPG and 2.1 BPG this past summer playing in the ABL.

Coach Scott
Quote:
"Fall is another one of those guy's we view as a instant starter, a 4 year starter and a potential NBA prospect. We believe he has the talent to lead us to not only opportunities in the NCAA tournament but a NCAA title"
Fall currently has the Broncos at #5 with Florida State #1 followed by a trio of Big 12 Schools (Kansas State, Texas and Oklahoma State). Currently KSU is also offering.

Quite the start to the season for the Broncos, proving that last year's success wasn't a fluke. Here's to hoping the real-life Boise State team comes away with a win over Northwestern later today!

Sadly no school history made by the real life Broncos today, but like this fictional team, they have alot of talent coming back next year and are proving to be a place that transfers like to come and find minutes. Had 3 Seniors on this squad and all were apart of the 8 man rotation Coach Rice seems to like to run, but there are some guy's on the bench that are pretty good. We will see.

Re: SCOTT RETURNS TO CH2K8

BRONCOS WIN STEAK IS SNAPPED!!!

After a 9-0 start, Boise State picked up win #10 against Utah as they started a 4 game road trip to finish out non-conference play, but Washington State put a end to the win streak at 10 with a last minute 3pt shot. BSU bounced back to beat BYU though picking up their 11th win of the year with just #11 (10-1) UCLA left in the non-conference schedule.

Here is a recap of the games.

@ 3-6 Utah (W) Final Score 99-92

Where was the "D" as both teams scored in the 50's in the 1st half with BSU taking a (54-50) lead into the half.

Utah's top 6 players in the rotation would score in double digits led by SR Rossevelt Hopper who finished with 19 pts despite just 2/8 from 3pt.

Boise would finish with 4 players in double digits led by D. Andres who slides back to SF well still putting up 19 pts and 7 rebounds. Jesus Kennedy back in the starting lineup would add 17 pts, well PG R. Cowans comes up big with 18 pts 5 assists and 3 steals well hitting 4/6 from deep. I. Dilligard came off the bench moving back to his 6th man role and scored 14 pts.

@ (8-3) Washington State (L) Final Score 82-79

Tied 46-46 at the half this game was back and forth all night until it wasn't WSU would score the final 7 points as BSU fails to hold onto the lead with 1:31 to play.

WSU was led by SR PG C. Glass with 18 pts and 7 rebs despite hitting just 1/8 from 3pt. JR SG J. Esterkamp added 16 pts hitting 3/4 from 3pt, but it was SR SF H. Bragg who was the hero scoring 17 pts and hitting 2/4 from deep including the game winner.

Jesus Kennedy had 26 pts to lead all scorers in the loss, well R. Len Bullicer added a double double with 11 pts 10 rebs and 2 blks.

@ (11-2) BYU (W) Final Score 71-66

The Cougars came into the game playing some great basketball including a 3 game win streak after a 6-0 start in the beginning of the year, but BSU would take a (39-31) lead into the locker room and the Cougars inability to hit FT's down the stretch would spell doom as the Broncos pick up a much needed win

Jesus Kennedy finished with a team high 14 pts and 7 reb well R. Len Bullicer added 13 pts and 5 rebs. D. Nagata struggling of late would add 11 pts on 3/5 3pt shooting well Cowans added 6 pts 8 assists and 3 steals.

Freshman V. Rasmussen played 3 minutes tonight for the first time in over a month missing his only shot, but did manage 3 rebounds and 2 blks.

Coach Scott will have a full 10 man rotation for the UCLA game,

Coach Scott
Quote:
"This is a big game for us. The Bruins have won 8 straight including wins over Gonzaga and Texas. Their only loss was a (74-62) loss to New Mexico over a month ago. A win here and we could find ourselves possibly in the Top-25 going into conference play"

STAT UPDATE

With Kennedy's return to the lineup, BSU now has 4 players scoring in double digits.

Len Bullicer (15.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG), Kennedy (12.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG), Nagata (11.1 PPG, 3.8 APG, 44% 3pt) and R. Cowans (10.8 PPG, 5.0 APG 35% 3pt.

With 3 more players averaging 8 or more.
D. Andres (8.9 PPG, 5.9 RPG), I. Dilligard (8.5 PPG 12/22 3pt-55%) and R. Pekkola (8.1 PPG, 16/38 3pt 42%).

Re: SCOTT RETURNS TO CH2K8

BRONCOS RALLY TO BEAT UCLA!!!

Boise State would rally trailing (34-30) at the half to the UCLA Bruins scoring the last 7 points in the game to pull out the 1 point victory (69-68). For Coach Scott and the Broncos it was their 1st Top-25 victory of the season, but with quality wins over Gonzaga, Oregon State, Cal, LMU, Utah, and BYU many felt like this win was what would finally prove to the nation, that Boise State isn't just a football school.

For Coach Scott it was his 12th win of the season and his 80th of his career (80-32).but despite the victory BSU is still ranked outside the Top-25 and isn't even considered the "Best Mid-Major" coming in ranked #3 behind #1 Coll of Charl (10-0) and VCU (11-0).

BSU held AA Mr BB Oregon PG Edgar Stukes to just 4 points on 1/5 FG 1/3 3pt and limited the Bruins to just 7/23 from 3pt. Soph 6'6 Cal Reese led the Bruins with 20 pts and 7 rebounds in the loss.

For Boise it was a balance attack with the bench scoring 21 points shooting 3/5 from 3pt led by SR J. Plummer's 9 pts

For the Starters it was R. Len Bullicer (12 pts 7 rebs) and R. Cowans (12 pts) comin up big well Jesus Kennedy just missed a double double finishing with 9 points and 9 rebounds well also blocking 2 shots.

BSU WILL KICKOFF WAC PLAY ON SATURADAY VS (10-3) FRESNO STATE
