Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)

Man, still pumped to see this dynasty going strong. You’re dynasty has been nothing short of impressive!

Congrats on the back-to-back titles. That is not an easy feat, even in a video game, so to pull that off is something to be excited about.

Never thought your first loss would come to a team like Rice but that rough shooting finally caught up with you guys. Would have been crazy to pull it off with a three to end OT to keep the undefeated season alive, but I think you know that this team isn’t in the conversation of a perfect season. Plenty of young pieces so take your lumps early, get the squad to gel and you guys will be ready to roll when it matters late in the season.

Found this thread from a recommendation from another member, excited to read through it and the fact that it’s still going on! I’m planning to start mine soon, this is going to be great inspiration.

We pretty much just went down swinging. They were playing zone, and we were getting a lot of open looks, but they weren't falling. I have trouble turning down open threes. It's kind of a shame because Lavender and Mombollet had great games in the paint. Even so, our defense was our main issue, though. Offensively, we still did good enough to win, but we can't allow that many points. Our offense is definitely not as good as last year, though.

The CPU team shot right around the same mark in each game as well
Interesting. Also, I think later in legacy teams tend to be higher-rated than they are when you first start a legacy, so this might play a factor (what I mean is that auto-generated players are better than the players you start with in the game - i.e. an "average" team in 2036-2037 is better than an "average" team in 2007-2008 in-game). A lot of sports video games have this happen (I know NCAA Football 14 has this issue), so CH 2K8 isn't alone in that regard.

Thanks! I see your thread has new updates, so I will have to check it out!

Losing to Rice was definitely frustrating. They're currently undefeated, but they haven't really played anyone and they're Rice... I've had some bad losses in this legacy, though. If I remember right, two seasons ago when I won the national title, the team only lost three games, but two of them came to sub-.500 teams.

Yes sir Coach Norm Roberts and SMU are back and excited about the future of the program! Feels good to be back playing this game. Easily my favorite sports game of a time.

Those random losses to really bad teams are what always keep me on my toes. You can never go into any game and just expect to get a win, let alone a blowout win, regardless of how dominant your team may be.

Yep, you never know what’s going to happen. Sometimes you’ll go out there and blowout a team you shouldn’t, and then turnaround and not be able to hit the broad side of a barn the next game and lose to a vastly inferior team.

#1 West Virginia (10-1) vs. Virginia Tech (7-3)
Cassell Coliseum
Blacksburg, VA
December 21st, 2036

No. 1 West Virginia (10-1) overcame a 14-point second half deficit to squeak by Virginia Tech (7-3) this evening 80-79 in Blacksburg.

The Hokies had a chance to win the game at the final buzzer, but senior guard Derek Tafo missed a three-pointer with three seconds left that would have given the Hokies the lead, and West Virginia was able to run out the clock before the Hokies were able to foul Carson Lavender on the rebound.

Lavender totaled 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks for West Virginia. Belton Mombollet and Stefon Hull each scored 15 points and Felipe Delgado bounced back from a rough game against Rice with 12 points and eight rebounds tonight.

Tomas Songcuacy scored a game-high 25 points for Virginia Tech and shot 11/17 from the floor, including 3/3 from three-point range. Point guard Branden Watkins paced the offense with 19 points and six assists and Derek Tafo added 16 points and four steals.

West Virginia struggled to shoot the ball early on, but the Mountaineers' three-point attempts began to fall during the latter stages of the second half after falling behind by 14 points early on. In the end, West Virginia shot 43% (17/40) on 40 attempts from three-point range. Virginia Tech also shot well from beyond the arc (40%), but did so on only 15 attempts.

Next, West Virginia hosts LSU next Saturday in both teams' final regular season nonconference game of the season.
