Bulldogs roll over Monarchs 73-57.

It seems after the heartbreaking loss to Winthrop the Bulldogs had all the pieces in the right places against Old Dominion. Coach Stone was proud of his teams performance, "We came out and I told them before the game that this was a game of respect. We don't have the best reputation around the NCAA, we don't have a ton of fan support but we have a great team. We went out in front of a packed house and beat a Mid-Major team by 16 points, yeah I think the fans have something to say about this team. I love the way we play and I love how our boys go hard to the basket and make things happen. I feel like we could be in every game and even maybe win out from here." Junior Small Forward Everett Spencer continued to have a big start to his season knocking in 5 three point shots and finishing the game with 21 points and a few monster dunks. "You know, I just go at it like an animal, a beast. Ha, I'm just too big, too fast too good, 'aint no one in this conference going to shut me down. Not this animal. 23, hang it, baby!" Over confidence sometimes is a good thing, Everett looks to have another big game against Jacksonville Wednesday night.

Game Stats:

Bulldogs

Burton 20 points, 2 assist
Bennett 16 points, 3 assist
Spencer 21 points, 4 rebounds
Carter 0 points, 3 rebounds
Cobb 10 points, 5 points, 1 assist

South Carolina State 84 - Jacksonville 81

South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs get second win of the year at the buzzer!!

With just .2 seconds left Carrio Bennett drove down the right side of the court, threw up a prayer and swished the game winning three. The freshmen Shooting Guard was rushed as the crowd poured onto the court to celebrate. "Its good times in Orangeburg. We haven't seen this much fun in my 4 years, I think we have a serious contender on our hands, what a win!" Those were the words of senior Point Guard Derrick Davis, the only senior on roster; he has yet to see a winning season in his 3 seasons as a Bulldog. Jacksonville came into the game as a big favorite, many experts believe they will win their conference this season but have had a false start beginning this season 0-2. The Bulldogs rode the back fo Everett Spencer once again as he dazzled with 23 points and a handful of monster dunks to rally the crowd. However the dunk of the night goes to Julius Carter, he hit a monster jam off of a put back to posterize the Dolphins point guard Ben Smith. The Bulldogs get their second win in high style 84-81.

Game Stats:

Bulldogs

Burton 5 points, 3 assist, 2 rebounds
Bennett 15 points, 3 assist (GW 3 Pointer)
Spencer 23 points, 4 rebounds
Carter 9 points, 5 rebounds
Cobb 18 points, 3 rebounds

The mighty Bulldogs fall to the Mountaineers, 89-80.

In a game of fast paces scoring and monster dunks the Bulldogs came out just short of the big win in Boone. The Mountaineers were a very spread offensive team, they had four players in double digits and all but one player scored. The Bulldogs seems to be a one headed monster and struggled when Spencer had to leave the game with 4 fouls. Coach Stone relived the late second half trouble, "We had two guys both gunning for us, but when Everett came out with the 4th foul I had to move Flagler to Sf and he was over matched and all of his shots seemed rushed and off target. He and Spencer both had 50% shooting percentages from the floor, but when you have one or two guys carrying the team eventually you will fall behind. We need to find they third and fourth guy to put up big numbers. Cobb, Bennett, and Burton all could be all three are inconsistent. If we could have all 5 guys scoring 12, 13,15+ points a game we would have an unbeatable offense even on off games."
Everett Spencer lead all scorers with 38 points, and helped keep the team in the game with his clutch three pointers.

Game Stats

Bulldogs

Burton 9 points, 7 assist
Bennett 10 points
Spencer 38 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist, 4 fouls
Carter 0 points, 5 rebounds

The Bulldogs top Iona in the Blackjack Shootout Invitational, 95 - 66.

A full team effort with every player adding something to the winning effort and a great moral victory for a team looking for its chemistry. Of course with any big win comes a superstar to the lead his team to the big win and with every game the man to mention is Everett Spencer, Mr. Do it all as he is proclaimed. Elevating himself to a 58 point game with an almost perfect 3 point percentage and a monster dunk to start the game. The boys in Red took the lead early and ran away with this game, even holding the ball in the 4 corners during the last few minutes of each half to keep from embarrassing Iona more than needed. Coach Stone added a few comments after the game, "This is the win we needed, to say "Hey! We are the real deal, we have our slumps but we can take care of business!" And so we did, we came out hungry, most of the team had never been to Utah but it didn't bring us any trouble. We were prepared, hungry, and we wanted this game. I can promise you a new attitude from here on out."

Game Stats

Bulldogs

Burton 14 points, 8 assist (7-7 FT%)

South Carolina State takes home the trophy in the BlackJack Shootout.

A dazzle, a miracle, a classic. All these could describe the finish to the BlackJack Invitational on Saturday where the Bulldogs' Everett Spencer knocked down a fadeaway with no time on the clock to beat the Tigers of Jackson State. A game that was dead even wire to wire from start to finish the Bulldogs pulled away at the perfect moment to seal their first tournament win in Utah. Another full team effort the Bulldogs, minus an injured Derrick Davis, added quality minutes to the game and each player was rewarded with a tournament win at an arena the team could be playing in come March Madness. Everett Spencer was named tournament MVP after dropping 58 on Iona and then 24 against Jackson State.

Recruiting Update

With the signing deadline coming up in one week a lot of small schools are scrambling to secure some big names in the south east, especially first year coach Rob Stone. He had his eyes on a big prize from Georgia in Ray Bozeman who is considering an offer from SCST and Wake Forest. There is a clear choice here but still the offer is enticing Ray, who recently said he is 50/50 on both schools. They have also gotten very tight with another swingman looking at lots of big schools, Erroll Stockman who is a 4 star from Scottsdale, AZ.

Target List

*** SF Ray Bozeman
6'7 Atlanta, GA
Rank #112
Position #23

One of the top players in Georgia in a strong SF class, Ray is a threat from the floor wether its 22 feet or at the basket. He has great size but lacks the speed the top tier schools look for. Looks to be one of the first players off the bench at an ACC or SEC school, but could develop into a sound starter with his unlimited potential.

Grades:
Shooting B+
Skills C+
Defense B+
Athleticism A
Potential A+
Size A-

Top Schools:
Wake Forest (Full) (Offered)
SCST (Full) (Offered)

*** PF Jamie Temple
6'9 Atlanta, GA
Class #423
Pos #87

One of the best PF in the South east, between him and 5 star Patrick Day. Excellent in the block, great low post moves, and almost automatic scoring inside. He can also knock down the 3 when needed. An average rebounder, his strong suit is his defense and blocking skills. Could go anywhere from a mid major to a small school.

Grades:
Shooting B+
Skills B-
Defense B
Athletism B-
Rebounding B
IQ B+
Potential A
Size A

Top Schools:
SCST (Very High) Offered

*** SG Jaron McFadden
6'2 Columbus, GA
Class #348
Pos #100

Silky smooth off guard can play the 1 or the 2 if needed. He can run the court with the best or pop the 3 if needed. Play style is a lot like Ty Lawson but doesn't have the playmaking abilities. He will find a good home in the Mid Major conferences.

Grades:
Shooting B+
Skills B
Defense B
Athletism B
Rebounding C
IQ B
Potential B+
Size C

Top Schools:
SCST (Very High) Offered
Mercer (Medium) Offered

**** SF Erroll Stockman
6'6 Scottsdale, Az
Class #66
Position #11

A very athletic swingman who can do it all from the triple threat position. He really excels when he is given the ball in the corner because he can drive and dunk or dish it to the top for a good look. He pulls a double team each night when he is on and is a great rebounder even following his own shot for many put backs.
