Dismal 1st Half Loses it for Panthers

December 1, 2007

A terrible 1st half for the Panthers put them out of reach early as they faced off against the Rice Owls in the 1st round of the Hawkeye Classic. The Panthers were outscored 49-28 in the 1st half. They would come back strong in the second half with a late surge but the hole was too big to overcome as they lost 83-70. Leading scorers for the Panthers were Romain Martin and Julio Anthony, both with 14 points. Rodney Foster lead the way for the Owls with 14 points.

The loss drops the Panthers record on the season to 3-2. Tonight the Panthers will face off against the host Iowa Hawkeyes in the 3rd place game of the Hawkeye Classic. The Hawkeyes lost in their first round game against Louisiana-Monroe by a score of 67-63.

It looks like Romain Martin and Mike Robinson are the main cogs of the Panthers' offense so far.

Good luck in the consolation game of the Hawkeye Classic against Iowa and also the rest of the season.

BTW, are you playing the games or just coaching them?

Layout looks good. I have messed around with both Eastern and Western Illinois. I love recruiting in Illiniois you can always land some good instate talent.

Just wanted to give you some heads up there is a great group of guys still posting there 2k legacies at 2k web site. We would love to see you bring your legacy over there as well. I know Super Jameas post both places. If you cut and paste you can copy pretty easy. I use to do both but felt like I got more comments and views at 2k site. I am Coach Young

Yeah Martin and Robinson are the guys I'll be counting on all year long, and I'm playing these games.

Yeah I actually ventured over to the 2k site just yesterday and saw some of the legacies. I'll probably get it posted on there sometime soon. I'll check out your legacy as well.

And FYI (this goes for everyone) even if I'm not commenting on your legacy doesn't mean I'm not following, I tend to just read and not post anything, but I do enjoy reading other legacy stories.

Panthers Defense Disappears in 2nd Half

December 2, 2007

The Panthers looked as if they could hang with the Iowa Hawkeyes as they went into halftime tied at 35-35. That quickly changed in the 2nd half as the Hawkeyes opened up with a 21-4 run to start. The Panthers would never recover from that drought and only slipped further behind. The Panthers Defense allowed 55 points in the 2nd, and gave up 12 offensive rebounds, most of which came in the 2nd half. Mike Robinson lead the way for the Panthers with 16 points. Iowa was lead by Justin Johnson with 24 points and Seth Gorney who scored 17 and grabbed 12 boards.

The loss brings the Panthers down to .500 with a 3-3 record, and gives them a 4th place finish of 4 teams in the Hawkeye Classic. Louisiana-Monroe defeated Rice 96-89 in the championship game.

The Panthers will open up conference play at home against Tennessee Tech on December 6th. The game will be just the 2nd home game for the Panthers so far this season and the first since their season opener about 3 weeks ago.

Panthers Ice Cold From Behind the Arc

December 7, 2007

Many things went wrong for the Panthers against Tennessee Tech last night in a 72-60 loss at Lantz Arena. Their 2-15 (13.3%) from three point range was the worst of their team stats that set the Panthers behind. The Panthers really struggled in the 1st half, mostly due to Mike Robinson missing most of the half because of early foul trouble. The Panthers couldn't seem to manage to get good shots and the defense was non-existent. The Panthers were lead by Bobby Catchings coming off the bench with 12 points while Tennessee Tech was lead by Anthony Fisher with 19 points and 7 assists.

The Loss puts the Panthers at a 3-4 record on the season and a 0-1 record in the OVC. Their next game will be at home against Tennessee State on December 8th.

Panthers Embarassed as Tensions Rise

December 9, 2007

The Panthers were blown out yesterday evening by Tennessee State by a score of 79-46. Towards the end of the game frustration could be felt as coach Ben Love berated his team in a late game timeout. After the game we caught up with coach Love and he had this comment, "We can't shoot, we can't play defense, we can't grab a rebound, we don't make smart passes, we are never going to win a game playing like this."

The Loss is the 4th straight loss all by double-digits, putting their record at 3-5 (0-2) on the season. Their next game is on the road at Eastern Kentucky on December 17th.
