The Portland Trail Blazers are one of the NBA's youngest teams, and perhaps one of the most talented as well. Led by Brandon Roy, the electrifying shooting guard in his fourth year, the Blazers look to put themselves on the map as one of the NBA's elite this year.
Coach Nate McMillan feels good about the team's chances in 2010. When asked about how his team has looked so far in training camp, McMillan praised the play of Jerryd Bayless, a point guard in his second year.
"Bayless has looked great so far," McMillan said. "If he continues to improve and keeps his intensity up, I could see him getting minutes for us."
Rumors have circulated as of late that Portland will attempt to move one of the three point guards - Steve Blake, Andre Miller, or even the young Bayless. McMillan says that it is just speculation at this point but the team continues to seek out their options.
"Realistically, we might not break camp with all [3] point guards," McMillan said. "If we can upgrade our front court and add some rebounding, that would be great for us."
Another player who has stood out so far is Martell Webster, a talented small forward who spent all of last season on the injured list. Webster, out of Seattle Prep High School in Seattle, is still only 22 and McMillan believes that he could end up being one of the team's best players by season's end.
"Martell, he's a kid with a lot of talent, but injuries and perhaps not the best work ethic have held him back a bit," McMillan added. "But he has a lot of game and we'll try to get as much out of him as we can."
Center Greg Oden will man the middle for the Blazers, as will LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge can score but his name has surfaced in some of the recent trade rumors.
