Congrats on the win over the Hawkeyes, even though that is a former team for me. I won 3 National Titles in my Coach Young Legacy(posted at 2ksports). Hopefully your team doesn't get to confident on over look your next 2 games. Getting to a 8-3 record woudl be a very nice resume builder for you.

Iowa definitely looked like NCAA champions in that first half. Just got everything rolling in the second. But yeah, moving to 8-3 would be great with 3 of my first 4 conference games on the road. Thanks again for following!

Cleveland State Makes Furious Rally, But Still Falls to Northern Iowa in OT

CLEVELAND, OH. - After a two week layoff, we all thought that the Northern Iowa Panthers would struggle early on, before finally calming down to win in the second half. It was just the opposite though, as the Panthers got out to quick start, but despite a rally by Cleveland State to send it into overtime, Northern Iowa still walked out of Cleveland with a 78-73 victory.

The Panthers led by as many as 15 in the second half, but Cleveland State started hitting shots, and getting big defensive stops. Northern Iowa had a chance to win it in regulation, but the stingy defense by Cleveland State didn't even allow them to get a shot off in the final seconds.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Jordan Egleseder, who finished with 22 points on the day, and also added eight rebounds. Kerwin Dunham had another nice day as well, scoring 16 points, and knocking down four three-point buckets in the process.

Norris Cole and Nigel Ajere led Cleveland State with 16 a piece.

SCORING SUMMARY

UNI - 38 26 14 78
CLE - 30 34 9 73

INDIVIDUAL STATS

Northern Iowa

Jordan Eglseder (C) - 22 points, 11-15 FG, 8 rebs.
Kerwin Dunham (SG) - 16 points, 6-12 FG, 4-7 3PT
Kwadzo Ahelegbe (PG) - 12 points, 5 asts.
Marc Sonnen (SG) - 10 points
Adam Rodenberg (PF) - 6 points
Ali Farokhmanesh (SG) - 5 points
Adam Koch (SF) - 4 points
Johnny Moran (PG) - 3 points

Cleveland State

Norris Cole (PG) - 16 points, 7 asts.
Nigel Ajere (SF) - 16 points

Aaron Pogue (C) - 8 points, 5 rebs.
Lance James (SG) - 8 points
Tim Kamczyc (PF) - 2 points
Breyohn Watson (PG) - 2 points
Devon Archie (PF) - 2 points, 6 rebs.
Renard Fields (PF) - 1 point

TEAM STATS OF NOTE

AST

Northern Iowa - 22
Cleveland State - 15

3PT

Northern Iowa - 10/23
Cleveland State - 5/16

FT

Northern Iowa - 0/0
Cleveland State - 10/11

RECORDS

Northern Iowa 7-3
Cleveland State 3-6

Coach's Notes:

- A good game overall, but we definitely settled for a lot of jumpshots versus taking the ball inside and drawing fouls. That should be obvious seeing as though we did not shoot a free throw in the game.

- But, our three-point shooting is really coming along. We shot the thing great in this one, with Dunham leading the way once again. If we can get some good recruits to add with this crew, we're going to score a lot of points. My four best shooters are all back next season.

A great road win, even though it was pretty sloppy at times. But we'll definitely take a 7-3 record at this point, and can hopefully push that out to 8-3 against Morehead State.

Northern Iowa Has Another Sloppy Second Half, Still Pull Out a 71-66 Win Over Morehead St.

CEDAR FALLS, IA. - Make it two games in a row where the Northern Iowa Panthers have led a big lead slip away. But, you can also make it two games in a row where the Panthers found a way to win, as they finished up non-conference play with a 71-66 win over Morehead State.

Northern Iowa built up a nice 17-point lead at the half, taking a 45-28 advantage into the break. But after another second half start filled with turnovers and missed shots, Morehead St. was able to battle back and get as close as one point in the final minutes. But free throw shooting down the stretch locked up the win for the Panthers.

Jordan Eglseder once again led Northern Iowa, as he racked up 16 points and 9 rebounds on the day. Marc Sonnen had 12 for the Panthers.

Morehead State was led by Maze Stallworth with 24 points.

SCORING SUMMARY

UNI - 45 26 71
MSU - 28 38 66

INDIVIDUAL STATS

Northern Iowa

Jordan Eglseder (C) - 17 points, 7-9 FG, 9 rebs.
Marc Sonnen (SG) - 14 points
Kerwin Dunham (SG) - 12 points
Adam Koch (SF) - 9 points, 6 rebs.
Kwadzo Ahelegbe (PG) - 8 points
Johnny Moran (PG) - 6 points
Adam Rodenberg (PF) - 3 points, 7 rebs.
Lucas O'Rear (PF) - 2 points
Ali Farokhmanesh (SG) - 0 points (wow, best player doesn't score)

Morehead State

Maze Stallworth (SG) - 24 points
Ty Proffitt (PG) - 11 points
Brandon Shingles (SF) - 10 points
Corey Clemens (PG) - 9 points, 5 asts.
Kenneth Faried (C) - 6 points, 13 rebs.
David Terrell (C) - 3 points, 9 rebs.
John Lamb (SG) - 3 points

TEAM STATS OF NOTE

REB

Northern Iowa - 33
Morehead St. - 29

3PT

Northern Iowa - 7/24
Morehead St. - 7/18

RECORDS

Northern Iowa 8-3
Morehead St. 3-7

Coach's Notes:

- These sloppy second halves are starting to worry me a little. It's like we stop playing well when we get a nice lead. This isn't high school basketball. It's college. No lead is safe when there is time still on the clock.

- Egleseder continues to be a beast down low, and it's going to be hard to stop him. He's pretty agile for a big man, so I expect his success to continue.

- That's all for non-conference play, so the Missouri Valley Conference grind begins here. It should be fun.

8-3 going into conference play is a great place to be. But now it's time to get focused, as we head to Bradley.
