Re: The Legacy of Colby Dabel (College Hoops 2K8)
vs. Hawks face off against Winston Salem State Rams The Hawks played the exact opposite of their last game in this one. Verse Florida A&M, they fell behind early and came back for the win. In this one the Hawks dominated the first half and had to withstand a comeback to beat Winston Salem. The Hawks led by 13 at halftime, but a Winston Salem surge got them within 1 with 5 minutes to go. UMES, led by Ed Tyson’s 30 points, withstood the surge and ended up winning 58-52. Brian Fisher’s 17 points led the Rams. Key Hawks Tyson 30 points, 8 rebounds McFadden 8 points, 6 rebounds Key Rams Fisher 17 points, 4 rebounds Floyd 14 points Alcius 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4-5 FG, 1-1 3 at Hawks battle former nemesis Last year Delaware State swept the Hawks, going 2-0 against Colby Dabel’s youthful crew. This year’s Hawks are more experienced and looking for revenge. But as Delaware State always has, they kept it close, only trailing by 3 at halftime. Dabel, however, was not pleased with his team. “How the **** are we leading a 7-10 team by only 3! That’s ******* terrible! Honestly, Ed is not the team gentleman! We have to score in more ways then Ed Tyson alone. STEP IT UP!” That tirade didn’t fire his team up enough, however, as Delaware State continued to keep it close until the very end, only down by 4 with a minute to go. UMES made their free throws, and escaped with 51-49 victory. Cassin Diggs led the Hornets with 12 points and 10 rebounds. After the game Dabel left the arena 5 minutes after the game, with no comment towards the media or his team. Key Hawks Tyson 27 points Popovic 9 rebounds Key Hornets Diggs 12 points, 10 rebounds Mosley 10 points, 9 assists |

at Officiating decides closely contested game “Tyson drives, passes into wide open McFadden, WIDE OPEN LAYUP IS GOOD. Hawks tie it up at 47. Howard takes it up. Hearn passes it out to Myatt, he pivots tries to drive to the hoop, nice defense by Krleski. Jump pass by Myatt into Timothy, 2 seconds left, HE TAKES A 3… NO GOOD! Folks, we do have a whistle, but barring a foul we should have OT…it’s a foul on Tyson. There was absolutely no contact whatsoever, but they called a foul anyway…Timothy nails the first. Howard up 48-47…and Timothy nails the 3rd. Inbound to Tyson, half court shot…no good. Colby Dabel is livid.” The Hawks lose a close game, and as the replay on the MEAC sports network showed, there was no foul. The Hawks led by 3 at the half, but a spirited Bison comeback led to the win . Eugene Myatt led the Bison with 19, but Tyson countered with 25 of his own. The loss ends the Hawks potential undefeated conference season and drops them to 11-4 (3-1). Key Hawks Tyson 25 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists Fowler 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals Key Bison Myatt 19 points, 3 steals Timothy 15 points, 3 rebounds and assists Hearn 7 assists |

vs. Hawks prepare for heayweight matchup between conference’s best 2 teams Preview The Hawks come into this game the favorites, and are led by Ed Tyson, who leads the conference in scoring. However, they are coming off an embarrassing loss against Howard and do not have a secondary scorer without Iti. Hampton has multiple threats with Brandon Tunnell and Mikell Sampson (both average 10+ a game) and Michael Freeman (conference’s best player). Hampton has it’s lone conference loss to Florida A&M and is 4-1 in conference. UMES is 3-1. The Game We wrote up a long preview for this one. This game was a snoozer. The Hawks seemingly had a hangover from the Howard game, as they fell behind early and trailed 34-23 at halftime. Whatever Colby Dabel said at the half had no effect, as the Hawks didn’t show up in the second half either. By the end of the game all of Hytche Athletic Center was booing the Hawks and their terrible effort. The final score of this blowout was 59-40. Key Hawks Tyson 20 points, 4 rebounds, 8-19 FG Shot only 16-44 Key Pirates Tunnell 18 points, 6 assists Simpson 16 points Freeman 12 points, 11 rebounds Tunnell rises for 3 of his 19 points late in the game |

vs. Iti, Krleski bounce back in blowout win Tonight was a day of bouncebacks, as the Hawks bounced back from 2 straight losses, and Kyle Iti and Daniel Krleski bounced back from lackluster performances. Iti nearly had a double double, scoring 10 points while adding 7 rebounds. Dead eye shooter Danjiel Krleski also rebounded from his early woes, putting up 13 points. The Hawks had this one over by halftime, as they led 32-19 at the half onroute to a 60-44 win. Key Hawks Tyson 21 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists Iti 10 points, 7 rebounds Krleski 13 points Key Eagles Goldsberry 11 points, 6 assists Illogbu 15 points Videnov 10 points, 6 rebounds at Popovic comes up big, Hawks destroy Norfolk State Tonight was the night of the big men, as Kyle Iti, Allen Fowler, and Alex Popovic all made major contributions. Iti and Fowler each had 6 points, with Iti grabbing 6 boards, and Fowler grabbing 7. But Popovic outperfomed them both, putting up 12 points and 6 rebounds. Norfolk State kept it close at the half, only trailing by 7, but the Hawks pulled away in 2nd to give them a 62-44 win. Key Hawks Tyson 27 points Popovic 12 points, 6 rebounds Key Raiders Lyons 16 points Colby Dabel's comments on the week: "It was a good week for us, as Kyle really made a comeback from his terrible showings early. Alex also really helped us, and I think he could see more time in the future. Ed is just Ed, putting up 20+ points every game it seems." Stat of the Week: 18. That's how many games UMES has played, and how many games Ed Tyson has put up 20 or more points. That's right, Tyson has scored 20+ in every game this year. |

Re: The Legacy of Colby Dabel (College Hoops 2K8)
At Hawks come out with a win because of first half Tonight the Hawks received a scare from the seemingly feeble Morgan State Bears, as they were only 5-11 coming into this game, including a 37-85 dismantling against S. Carolina State in their last game. In the first half, it seemed as if they were the same Bad News Bears, falling down 8 at the half. Colby Dabel still was not pleased with his team. “These guys are ****ing terrible! We’re only up by 8? This is a joke! Play better, or you can be assured will be running line drills!” As it seems to have been the case all year, the Hawks did not respond to Dabel’s peptalk, playing worse in the second half. As a matter of fact, the Bears closed in, drawing to within 4 with only 2 minutes to play in the game. After a UMES timeout, the Hawks would recover and hang on 73-66. The Bears shot 8-16 from 3, while UMES only shot 3-13. Key Hawks Tyson 26 points, 3 assists, 10-23 FG Fowler 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks Iti 8 points 3 rebounds Key Bears Bolden 16 points, 6 assists Ali 19 points, 4 assists Holmes 13 points, 4 rebounds Colby Dabel after the game: “Disgusting. The way we played defense in this game was disgusting. Safe to say that there will be suicides for the guys tomorrow. At Can Hawks recover from early deficit in Raleigh? If most heartattacks in the conference in the league was a stat, then Maryland Eastern-Shore head coach Colby Dabel would lead the conference. The Hawks again didn’t bring their A game against NC A&T. Early on, shooting guard Austin Ewing was lighting up the Hawks, making midrange and 3 point jumpshots on route to 9 points in the first half alone. He propelled the Aggies to a 32-31 lead at the half. Colby Dabel decided not to chew into his team at the half, instead saying the same words over and over again. “Conference Title. Conference Title. Conference Title.” The players got the message: lose this game and it would be a longshot to catch current 9-1 conference leader Hampton. His team, not just Ed Tyson, came out roaring to start the half and led the Hawks to a 15 point lead with 5 minutes left in the half. His team would hold on, and grab a 67-58 win. Key Hawks Tyson 23 points, 9 assists Iti 10 points, 9 rebounds Key Aggies Alston 18 points, 6 assists, 7-13 FG Jones 14 points, 5 assists Ewing 11 points Colby Dabel after the game: “We did what we had to do. Nothing else I could ask from the guys.” Stat of the Week: 6 Assists per game for Ed Tyson, including a 9 assist performance at NC A&T. He's only averaged 3 on the season. Player of the Week: "I think everybody knows Ed Tyson is the MVP, but we're going to give it to 'Mount Iti,' Kyle Iti. You have to give credit: it looked like he hit the freshman wall, but he's really recovered lately. 9 and 6 are great numbers, and he really looks like a worthy sidekick to Tyson. |

Re: The Legacy of Colby Dabel (College Hoops 2K8)
at Hawks defeat Cookman behind Iti and Tyson Lately the Hawks have been anchored by a potent 1-2 punch in Kyle Iti and Ed Tyson. Tonight was no different for the Hawks. Ed Tyson, who in his last game against Bethune-Cookman scored 31, followed that up with 30 points. Not only that, but Tyson was efficient, going 12-23 from the field. Kyle Iti also has provided some help, as he scored 10 points on an impressive 5-6 shooting. Despite an even 1st half at 36-35, where the Wildcats made a 10-4 run to close, the Hawks dominated the 2nd by 12 points. Their final was 72-59. The Wildcats were led by young sophomore Joey Woods, who came out with 17 points and 5 assists, and Josh ****ings, who put up 16. Key Hawks Tyson 30 points, 6 assists Iti 10 points, 3 rebounds Krleski 10 points Key Wildcats Woods 17 points, 5 assists ****ings 16 points, 4 assists, 4 steals Barber 12 points, 5 rebounds vs. Hawks win big in snoozer In front of the home "crowd," the Hawks dominated, holding the Hornets to a mere 43 points. While the Hawks didn't score a lot either, they still came out with a 61-43 victory. After the first 5 minutes of game, the Hornets never came within 3 and in the 2nd they never came within 5. Key Hawks Tyson 30 points, 7 assists Fowler 10 points, 5 rebounds Iti 6 points, 5 rebounds Key Hornets White 16 points Johnson 14 points Mosley 5 assists Fun stat of the week: The Hawks are now 16-5, way ahead of preseason forecastors projections. |

Re: The Legacy of Colby Dabel (College Hoops 2K8)
The Princess Anne Times Tyson needs to step up his D We here at the Princess Anne Times do not disrespect Ed Tyson. Around here, he’s widely considered as God, having lifted this program to heights it has never seen. But lately, he has disturbingly been giving up a bunch of points to opposing shooting guards. In the past week, he has given up big efforts to two mediocre guard. Josh ****ings, of Bethune Cookman, and Tremaine Johnson, of Delaware State, put up over 14 points on Tyson despite neither being a prolific scorer. But this has been a reoccurring trend. Only 4 shooting guards have been held under 10 points all year, and they all came in the early going of the year other then a recent game against Norfolk State. That’s 17 out of 21 games of over 10. In the long run, this is probably not a big deal. In the college level, almost every shooting guard has some problems with his defense, and Tyson’s scoring has more then made up for his subpar defense. And Tyson still hasn’t allowed a 20 point game on him, so he’s definitely not a huge problem. This shouldn’t effect the MEAC hopes much; they’ve achieved this record with him. But in the tourney, especially coming out of the MEAC, the Hawks are likely to face a premier team. And this could lead to trouble with his defense coming in the way of the team winning. |
