Boston College 87
Florida State 80

Eagles Edge Seminoles, Now Back in Top 25

Florida State played a solid first half to take a 43-39 halftime lead, but Boston College stiffened their defense and managed some key offensive rebounds to defeat the Seminoles 87-80.

The Seminoles connected on nine of 19 from long distance in the game, but they did not produce much offensively aside from that in the second half. Boston College's seven offensive rebounds in the second, many of which were in the last five minutes, were just too much for FSU to overcome.

Most of FSU's three point production came from stellar guards Nic Gosley and Woody Dodd, who kept them in the game with 20 and 19 points respectively. Corey Stephenson, Antonio Christian, and Clement Starks each had 14 points for Boston College. Lenny Ortiz also showed a lot of poise in the final minutes of the game, connecting on eight-straight free throws to ensure Boston College a victory. Ortiz would finish the game with 11.

With the win Boston College (11-5) re-enters the Top 25 at #24, and Coach JS now has his 399th career win. Up next for the Eagles is #13 Virginia Tech on the road, who is currently 13-3.

I cannot even log onto my site now, so I will probably just be posting here for a while. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions for me to improve my posts here, or if there is anything (stats, roster, etc.) that you guys want to see.

Interview with Coach JS

DL: Welcome to the Boston College Insider Report, your official source of team news for BC athletics. I am David Levano, here with Coach JS. Thanks for being here Coach JS, and since we're short on time we'll get things rolling right away. Coach, we all know you've had a great career, but you're one win away from number 400. Do you think that will have any impact on your team's play in the next couple of games?

JS: Not really David. It's hard to believe our next win will be number 400 for me, and I have been blessed to be in great situations with great athletes. I don't believe our guys will be thinking about my personal record while they're out there on the floor though. I am not worried about it.

DL: Good point Coach. As your team heads forward into the thick of your ACC schedule, which opposing teams have caught your eye?

JS: Our next opponent Virginia Tech will be tough, especially when they're playing at home. I would have to say Clemson is the strongest team right now because they're playing great ball and have only lost one game. Miami has also shown they can give us problems, and NC State and Maryland are solid.

DL: Agreed. With so many excellent teams, in what areas does your team need improvement?

JS: Defense, defense, defense. We have the size, depth, and athleticism to be a great defensive team, but we're not playing at the same level defensively as we did the two previous years. We have blown too many assignments, and we've given up way too many easy looks, especially from three.

DL: Well Coach, we are about out of time. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck against the Hokies.

#24 Boston College 68
#13 Virginia Tech 52

Coach JS Wins Number 400 as Tough Eagle D Silences Hokies
No one would have expected a coach who began his career in Northeast Conference to make many headlines, but Coach JS has surpassed all expectations by a mile as the Montana native won his four hundredth career game as his Boston College Eagles gained a surprisingly easy victory at the hands of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, 68-52.

Although they have struggled all season playing on the road, Boston College had no trouble after weathering an early 7-0 run by the Hokies to begin the game. The Eagles finally gave Coach JS the defensive intensity he was looking for, holding Tech to 32% shooting and allowing only three offensive rebounds. Jorge Rodriguez, who is averaging only 4.3 points a game, led all scorers with 18 points to carry BC offensively. Jesse Kole of Virginia Tech led his team with 14 points and six boards.

While the win was an important one for a team looking to compete for an ACC title, the highlight of the night remained Coach JS’s personal achievement of 400 wins. While JS still has a long way to go to reach the likes of legendary coaches like Bob Knight, Dean Smith, and John Wooden, his career to this point is nearly picture-perfect with very few setbacks along the way. At 400-115, Coach JS has had only one losing season, which was his first year coaching at St. Francis (PA). He has won twenty games or more for every season but his first two, and he has compiled ten total conference championships with three national titles (1-Iona, 2-BC) being the pinnacle of his career.

Coach JS has coached in many conferences, from St. Francis to Holy Cross to Iona, and currently at Boston College. The story has been the same regardless of the location, however, as Coach JS has started with average or below average squads, and led them to prominence and even dominance at Iona and Boston College.

The journey continues to Coach JS, and for his Eagles, as they will host #4 Clemson in what should be one of the best games in the ACC this year.

#23 Boston College (13-5)- 75
#4 Clemson (16-3)- 57

Eagles Win Crucial ACC Matchup
Although the conference season is still young, Boston College made a great stride toward an ACC Title by defeating #4 Clemson 75-57 at home. With the win, Boston College is now 6-1 in the ACC, giving them sole possession of first place.

The Eagles really controlled the whole game, leading from start to finish. They seemed to have an answer for any run Clemson made, and a variety of BC players stepped up in the victory.

Freshman Clement Starks led the way with 21 points, but Corey Stephenson and Antonio Christian each had 14 as well. Jesse Dilligard led the Tigers in the loss with 14 points and five rebounds.

Boston College hits the road next for a showdown in Chapel Hill with 12-7 North Carolina. While the Tarheels do not have an overly impressive record, they do have some marque victories and have several players returning from injuries.

Re: Blakjak12's Legacy: Big Business; Minus the Business Suits

#20 Boston College (14-5)- 64
North Carolina (12-8)- 58

Second Half D Facilitates Eagle W
North Carolina stormed out to an early 21-10 lead, but Boston College survived the Tarheel outburst, fighting their way back to get a 64-58 win in Chapel Hill.

By halftime the Eagles had brought it within a point, trailing 38-37. Boston College's defense then became the deciding factor in the game, as the Eagles held UNC to only 20 points in the second half, while scoring just enough themselves to get the win.

Boris N'Diaye was still probably the MVP of the game scoring 24 for the Tar Heels in the loss, but the the 6'8" small forward did not receive much help offensively from his teammates. Clement Starks showed good composure for BC, leading the team with 16. Rod Radford and Corey Stephenson were solid inside as well, scoring 13 each.

Boston College returns home for two more ACC games as they will welcome Wake Forest and Virginia to the Silvio O. Conte Forum. Wake Forest is 11-8 this season, and they are projected to finish near the bottom of the ACC. Virginia will also likely be a bottom feeder in the ACC, but they only lost to Boston College by a single point earlier this season.
