Packing Up and Going Home: Vancouver Grizzlies Franchise

Vancouver Grizzlies

In a bold move that surprised many, Canadian Billionaire, Jim Balsillie decided to leave his dreams of owning a NHL franchise behind, and turn his attentions to the NBA. Since the 2001-2002 season, Canada has been owner of only one franchise, which is has been dubbed "Canada's Team". However, in this latest twist, NBA Commissioner (David Stern) has approved the sale and relocation of the Memphis Grizzlies back to their homeland, Vancouver.

In addition to this change, Stern also broke news that next season, the Grizzlies would be moving to the Northwest division, and the Oklahoma City Thunder would replace them in the Southwest. The change will not take affect until next season due to the fact that the NBA had already released the schedule with the assumption that the team would be playing in Memphis.

At an earlier press conference featuring Balsillie, TSN correspondent, Jack Armstrong, was able to get a little insight as to what direction the team will be taking;

Armstrong: Mr. Balsillie, first of all, congratulations on obtaining the Grizzlies franchise and the successful move back north of the boarder. Furthermore, what can you tell us in regards to the immediate future of the club moving forward?

Balsillie: As of right now, I plan on keeping all personnel and the coaching staff in tact. As for the roster, I will decide that in a meeting with Mr.
Chris Wallace in the coming days.

Although the conversation was short, the excitement surrounding the press conference was nothing less than incredible. As for now, we will have to wait and see what the future brings.

It is 2k... I probably should have mentioned that. I tried simulating the first season and it froze on me at the training camps, so I've decided that I'm going to play the first season this time.

Good luck with the move back to Vancouver.. I created a Association with 2k9 in which I moved the Wizards to Seattle, the Bucks to San Diego and the T-Wolves to Las Vegas and did a realignment to make the conferences/divisions more regional as well.

Will be interesting to see who you decide to build your team around. The Grizzlies have alot of young options.

I uploaded the stats to the 2k Community and for some reason, it doesn't show the Grizzlies logo... instead its showing two opposing team logos. Anyways, just click on the score board to get the recap and summary I have written up. Enjoy!

Check here for recent games!!! (Will do summaries for them tomorrow)

Breaking News

A news report out of Toronto says that the Raptors have a greed to ship DeMar DeRozan to the Vancouver Grizzlies in exchange for Ronnie Brewer and a 2nd round pick in the 2010 draft. Although this is somewhat of a surprise seeing that Brewer was performing at a decent level, Balsillie was said to be looking to shake up the team a little (after 3 straight losses). With that being said, Chris Wallace and Bryan Colangelo have agreed to terms on the deal, and time will only tell in regards to how this deal will pay off for both teams.
