With the 1st Pick in the 2010 NBA Draft...

After lucking out and receiving the 1st pick via the lottery, the Wizards were able to secure their future franchise star, in PG John Wall. Wall was the projected best prospect in all of college basketball through the season. Wall may be one of the fastest NBA players in recent memory, he is able to get from rim to rim in a flash. The Wizards can only thank God for having the opportunity to draft Wall. Wall is already being compared to top point guards such as Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook, even said to be more polished out of college than both of these two.

"I feel like I had pressure since I became No. 1 in high school and was one of the top players," Wall said. "I always got there hungry wanting to fight hard and compete in every game, so when I step on the court I'm going to take on any challenge there."

One thing is for sure there will be a lot of hype John Wall needs to live up to as he is the new face of the Washington Wizards. They cannot afford to have another Kwame Brown.

Season Outlook

The Wizards still have a long way to go before they can contend for a championship. Especially in their division with 3 of the top 5 teams in the East. After finishing 26-56 last season, they were able to get the #1 overall pick in the draft despite not having the best chance at it. The luck of the draw went there way and it got them John Wall. Wall gives the team the pure PG they have been lacking for years.

The team will return without their 3 center pieces for the last few years, Gilbert Arenas, Antwan Jamison and Caron Butler are all gone. Jamison and Butler were traded mid-season, as Gilbert was sent away this year to Orlando in exchange for Rashard Lewis. Arenas was suspended after playing and starting 32 games last year and averaging 22 ppg. In his absence 5th year player Andray Blatche stepped in as the team's main weapon. Blatche in the final 3 months of the season averaged almost 21 ppg and 7 rpg. This year the focal point will not be on Blatche as he has someone else defenses will look to try to contain, yes rookie John Wall.

The team is still very young and has a lot of raw talent that new Head Coach Flip Saunders will try to mold into a team that can succeed such as the Thunder with their young talent. This 2011 season could be a promising one for years to come, or another stepping stone the Wizards have to overcome before revisiting the playoffs.

Roster Breakdown

Washington Wizards Depth Chart - 2011
STARTER2ND3RD4TH
PGJohn WallKirk Hinrich
SGNick Young
SFRashard LewisJosh HowardAl ThorntonCartier Martin
PFAndray BlatcheYi JianlianTrevor BookerKevin Seraphin
CJaVale McGeeHilton ArmstrongHamady Ndiaye

At Point Guard it's obvious John Wall is ready to start from day one. The Wizards were smart in acquiring a veteran such as Kirk Hinrich to help mature and lead this team, Hinrich will likely get a lot of minutes at SG, as it would be no surprise that Wall and Hinrich will be on the court at the same time, such as Rose and Hinrich were in Chicago. The real question is Wall struggles bringing the ball up, he isn't much of a threat with his jump shot, so teams can plan accordingly. Hinrich averaged close to 11 points and 4.5 assists per game through 73 games in Chitown.

Really the only person who is a true SG, is Nick Young. Young is deadly from beyond the arc but is not consistent enough from anywhere else to be a threat. A weak position in the Wizards, hopefully John Wall can make Young better after averaging only 8.6 ppg last season. The 25-year old from USC, hopefully still has room for improvement, otherwise it could be his last season as a Wizard.

The Small Foward position is relatively crowded, it seems Rashard Lewis will most likely be getting the bulk of the minutes, Lewis another veteran, will be more comfortable at the 3, than when he was playing the 4 in Orlando most of the time, Behind him is Josh Howard who was acuired from Dallas. Howard hasn't been able to stay healthy over the past few season, but in 4 games with Washington he averaged 14.5 points per game. If he can stay healthyhe may be able to contribute. Al Thornton also acquired last year from the Clippers, average close to 11 points in 24 games, Thornton will be fighting for scrap minutes as he is buried down on the depth chart and the 3 spot is already cluttered. Cartier Martin will be lucky to play at all.

At the 4, Andray Blatche will shine, there will be a lot of free roaming for Blatche and a number of pick and rolls he will be called to run. If Blatche can play at the same level from the end of last season, Wall and Blatche will be a deadly combo over the next few seasons. Blatche is a little trouble maker and his antics could cost him down the road, if Flip Saunders doesn't put up with it. Behind him is journeyman Yi, and young talents Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin who look to make a name for themselves. Seraphin was also a 1st round pick in 2010.

Center seems to be the other weak spot, as if every position aside form the point wasn't weak already. The 7 footer, JaVale McGee will get his chance to shine. McGee has yet to show he can do it offensively, but he is explosive and a solid defender. Hilton Armstrong shouldn't be cutting into his minutes too much so McGee should be able to showcase his talents and see if he was able to gain some post moves in the off-season

Re: A Reason To Cheer - Washington Wizards Dynasty(2k11)

Wiz Fall Apart In 4th, Lose 20-Pt Lead

For the first time the Wizards have put up a fight, but failed to come away with the victory. Maybe it was the young team playing under the bright lights in Madison Square Garden, it could have been that maybe the Knicks are a good team, whatever the reason is, they walked away with their 4th loss of the season and remain the league's only winless team.

The Wiz did everything right. Almost. They got Amare into foul trouble and held him to only 6 points in 26 minutes and for all of 3 quarters had pretty good shot selection. Maybe the team was too comfortable with a lead, but 11 4th quarter points generally won't win in today's league.

For 3 quarters the Wizards looked like a serious team that could potentially make a push for the playoffs, but with their sloppy 4th quarter play, they let the Knicks steal one. With 10 seconds left, Gallo hit the game-winning 3-pointer to put the team up by 1. Gallo finished with 16.

Although they did show some tenacity going into NY and putting up a major fight. One can call this a moral victory, but in the long run they don't keep job safe.

John wall led all Wizards with 21 points, but was 0-4 in the 4th when his team needed him the most.

"As the point guard of the team it's my job to make sure we walk away with points on every possession. Tonight I failed at that." Wall said in the post game press conference.

Wilson Chandler had a very nice game for the Knicks going 10-16 from the field for 22 points and 14 boards. His first double-double of the season.

5 Wizards were in double figures tonight, Josh Howrad scored 11 off the bench, his first double-digit scoring output of the season. Rashard Lewis continues to struggle, and is now shooting 23% from 3-point range on the season.

Yeah, same here. Make the Wizards an Eastern Conference power again, you've got two of the best up and coming guards in the NBA in John Wall and Nick Young.
