Kennedy, Horne, Burrell Lead the Way For Red Storm

The Red Storm make it 3 for 3 to open up the season as they absolutely shut down Brown University in the first half and took a 48-23 lead into the half. This lead was largely due to DJ Kennedy and Paris Horne who led the Red Storm with their numerous threes in the first half.

In the second half, the Red storm decided to hand the ball off to freshman Malik Stith as he played the majority of the half at the point guard position...good news for those looking into the future.

Also impacting the game was stand-out sixth man Justin Burrell who finished with 19 points on 9 of 13 shooting. This impressive performance earned him the right to be looked at as one of the most lethal sixth men in the Big East.

As the second half went on Brown gained confidence and shot much better. Led by senior power forward Matt Mullery, (23 points, 9/14 fg, 5/7 ft) Brown was able to keep it at a fairly reasonable outcome considering the halftime score.

Brown kept pace with St. John's in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome such a huge halftime defecit. St. John's won this in easy fashion, 97-64.

COMING UP:

The 3-0 Johnnies stay at home to face a tough 4-0 Siena team who's season has been highlighted by an 87-74 win at then #20 Temple...the team the Johnnies must face the day after playing Siena. This will surely be a testing weekend. Hopefully the young legs for St. John's will be up to the challenge!

Horne Shows Up Late But Rescues Miserable First Half Performance

Siena came out firing. The worst part is they also came out with a smoldering defense leading to 10 of St. John's 13 turnovers. Clarence Jackson of Siena was a menace from downtown shooting 5 for 8 and finishing with 21 points off 8 of 16 shooting.

Siena could do no wrong in a first half that looked like it would doom the Red Storm. Paris Horne went into the half with 7 points on 3 of 13 shooting, which was a recipe for disaster as the Johnnies were down 35-22 at the half.

Coach Pfeifer must have done something right at the break because the Johnnies came out firing on all cylinders. Paris Horne was out of this world in the second half as he ended up with 26 points as he shot 8/20 and 6/12 from three.

The Johnnies seemed to be shooting and making their shots at will throughout the second half as they rallied the troops and outscored Siena 50-26 in the second half.

This was the first true test for the Johnnies and they passed it thanks to a heroic second half effort 72-61.

BOX SCORES TO COME!
