Operation Sports Wins In Very First Game

What a game. There was an electricity in the air provided by the many gamers from the Tampa Bay area that came out to support the Operation Sports Hawks in their very first game.

As far as the game, neither team looked very impressive. Teams in the ACC are supposed to dominate teams like Marist, and that didn't happen. It was actually a pretty good game, with multiple lead changes in both halfs until Operation Sports managed to pull away late in the game.

David Walls once again led the team in scoring with 14 points. Dalton Henry provided the spark in the first half when no one else could get going, scoring on all five of his attempts to put up 10 of the teams 28 1st half points. Overall it was a solid team effort for a group of guys that have only played together for maybe a month.

Operation Sports Hawks Player Stats
Andre Harrell - 2 pts, 2 reb, 7 ast, stl, 2 TO
David Walls - 14 pts, 2 reb, (4-8 3pt)
Dalton Henry - 10 pts, ast (5-5 fg)
Hunter Wagner - 10 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl
Harlee Estepp - 9 pts, 9 reb, 2 ast, 3 blk

Brandon Crenshaw - 3 pts, 2 reb, 3 ast
T.J. Sizemore - DNP (not sure why....)
T.J. Youngblood - 8 pts, 3 reb (4-11 fg, 0-3 3pt)
David Sooner - 0 pts, 4 reb, ast, stl, 2 blk
Adam Rizzo - 6 pts, reb, 2 ast, blk
Gabriel Yu-Law - DNP
Adrian Marvell - 0-1 fg

Marist Player Stats
R.J. Hall - 4 pts, reb, ast, stl (1-8 fg)
Candon Rusin - 5 pts, 3 reb, 4 ast (2-19 fg, 0-9 3pt)
Sam Prescott - 14 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast
Jay Bowie - 7 pts, 8 reb, ast, stl, blk
Manelik Watson - 7 pts, 9 reb, 2 ast

Rob Johnson - 3 pts, 2 reb
Korey Bauer - 3 pts, 5 reb

Great Defense or Terrible Shooting?

Operation Sports was much improved in this game. Their productiveness both offensively and defensively was much better. They dominated this one from start to finish, over a decent C-USA team in Houston. The Cougars only made 30% of their shots, and only hit 2 of 18 3-point attempts.

David Walls, the projected top scorer for the Hawks, had a terrible game shooting the ball. He was 0-6 at the half, including a terrible play where he got blocked from behind by Houston's point guard while only having the net in front of him. He did manage 4 points in the second half, and luckily for him the rest of the team, the bench in particular, picked up their game.

The terrible T.J.'s came off the bench and wrecked havoc on the Houston defense. Youngblood picked up where he left off, scoring 10 points this time after scoring 8 off the bench against Marist. Sizemore didn't get on the floor at all in OSU's opener, but showed up big in this one putting up 10 points in just 10 minutes of play.

Dalton Henry continues to be Mr. Reliable in the first half. He's 10-12 shooting on the year, and has scored the majority of his points early in the game to help the team get an early lead.

There haven't been any line-up changes yet, but both Sizemore and Youngblood are making their case for the starting spot. Despite putting up solid numbers on paper, Andre Harrell has really made some poor decisions, and could see less playing time if it continues.

The Hawks face their first big test in the championship game, going up against a very solid Arkansas team who knocked off a good Temple team in the other semi-final.

Operation Sports Hawks Player Stats
Andre Harrell - 1 pt, 7 ast, stl, 2 TO
David Walls - 4 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast (2-10 fg, 0-3 3pt)
Dalton Henry - 13 pts, ast, 2 stl
Hunter Wagner - 8 pts, 3 reb, ast, stl, 3 blk
Harlee Estepp - 5 pts, 12 reb, ast, stl, 2 blk (2-8 fg)

Brandon Crenshaw - 6 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast, stl
T.J. Sizemore - 10 pts, 2 reb
T.J. Youngblood - 10 pts, 3 reb, 2 stl
David Sooner - 6 pts, 2 reb, 2 stl
Adam Rizzo - DNP
Gabriel Yu-Law - DNP
Adrian Marvell - 2 reb, ast

Houston Cougars Player Stats
Adam Brown - 5 pts, 2 reb, 3 stl, 2 blk (2-12)
Darian Thibodeaux - 3 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast, blk
Zamal Nixon - 13 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast
Kendrick Washington - 5 pts, 5 reb, ast
Maurice McNeil - 4 pts, 12 reb, blk

Alandise Harris - 5 pts, 2 reb, blk
Mikhail McLean - 2 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast

Record: 2-0
Up Next: vs Arkansas (3-0)

Operation Sports has done it! They've won the Palm Tree Shootout, beating the Arkansas Razorbacks 66-57 tonight. In their first game where they were legitimate underdogs, they fought hard and came away with the victory. They held Arkansas' star, Clarke, to his season low 11 points.

It's safe to say that T.J. Youngblood might have earned himself a starting spot after tonight's performance. He scored 16 points on 7-9 shooting, and just made a huge impact on the game while he was in the game. David Sooner also made his presence known tonight, getting his career highs in both scoring and rebounding.

David Walls recovered from his 4 point effort with a 10 point game, but still couldn't find his shot. He shot 3-9 from the floor in the game, which isn't terrible but more is expected out of him. Harlee Estepp continues to put up solid numbers from the center position. He had 3 blocks for the second straight game as well.

Operation Sports' success has come as a surprise. It's safe to say that it has come from a team effort, as they haven't had one guy become the go to guy. Every night people contribute and get the job done. Hopefully the success can continue.
