Revenge of the Nerds: The Rise of OSU

Team: Operation Sports Hawks
Rosters: Raiderfan's 2010-2011
Sliders: Jukeman's CPU vs. CPU

Here it is! The new team using only members from Operation Sports. I know the title is corny, but it makes perfect sense to go along with what storyline I could come up with. It will all be done using CPU vs CPU so that there is absolutely no bias and the players all play exactly how they should.

If you would like to be included as a recruit in the future, you can always sign up using the thread below...

This will be getting under way tonight. I will reserve a few posts for future use, then post a little corny story to get things rolling followed by the Midnight Madness game then rosters/schedules/preview. Whew that seems like a lot.

Operation Sports Becomes First Online Message Board University

By Gary Parrish
CBSSports.com Senior Writer

Jun. 20, 2010

WOODBRIDGE, VA -- An interesting turn of events has the college basketball world shaken up this afternoon. Not only had the internet sports gaming forum Operation Sports managed to start the first ever University derived from a message board, but apparently they have also managed to convince the NCAA to allow them to put a Division I basketball team on the court this season.

While very few details are being released, big surprise there, rumors are going around that a few very wealthy boosters that happened to be members of the Operation Sports site helped make this happen. There certainly had to be something fishy happen, because as we all know the NCAA doesn't bend at all, let alone break like this.

Enough of the speculation and bull, on to how this will affect the college basketball world. From what we've gathered, the team will play at a local high school's court until they manage to get their own home built. The team will probably be composed of little talent, because I mean come on, it's a bunch of guys that play video games they can't possibly have any Division I caliber talent on there.

I've saved the best for last on this one, and you aren't going to believe me on this one. Guess what conference they've put them in... The ACC! Not the SWAC, not the A-Sun, not some small conference. They put them in one of the most prestigious conferences in all of college hoops. I guess this is the NCAA's way of saying haha we took advantage of you.

Anyways, enough of giving them the attention they so desperately need. Let's just hope they can put some guys on the court that can handle the balls as wells they can their sticks.

White Team, David Walls Shine in OS Midnight Madness
”Team shows that they do have talent, several players impress."
November 9, 2010

Usually midnight madness games are more for show and to pump up the fans. This one had a meaning though. These players were fighting for playing time and a starting job, and it showed in the result. These players fought until the finish, in a game that included a 6 points comeback in the final minute of regulation which was capped by a 3-pointer to tie the game with 2.6 seconds left. It also showed how much these players wanted it when they insisted on playing an overtime instead of letting the game end in a tie.

The final result of the 25 minute game was 51-42, with the white team coming out on top. It looked like the black team had control up until the final minute of the game. David Walls led them, and was the game's high scorer with 16 points. The low post combination of Hunter Wagner and Harlee Espepp proved to be too much in overtime, however.

Here is the projected starting line-up for the first game after watching the team play tonight...
PG: Andre Harrell
SG: David Walls
SF: Dalton Henry
PF: Hunter Wagner
C: Harlee Estepp

Crenshaw and Sizemore both impressed as well, and will probably be the top candidates for the 6th man spot.

OS Black Team Player Stats
Brandon Crenshaw - 7 pts, 4 reb, ast, 2 stl, 3 TO
David Walls - 16 pts, 2 reb, ast, stl, 2 blk (6-17 fg, 3-8 3pt)
Dalton Henry - 9 pts, 3 reb
T.J. Youngblood - 5 pts, 4 reb, 4 ast
David Sooner - 2 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast

Adam Rizzo - 0 pts, 3 reb, ast
Cameron Sparkes - 3 pts, ast

OS White Team Player Stats
Andre Harrell - 8 pts, 4 reb, 5 ast, stl, 2 to
T.J. Sizemore - 12 pts, 3 reb, stl
Adrian Marvell - 2 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast (0-5 fg)
Hunter Wagner - 11 pts, 8 reb, ast, 2 stl, 2 blk
Harlee Estepp - 12 pts, 6 reb, ast, blk

Gabriel Yu-Law - 4 pts, 2 ast
Josh Bateman - 2 pts, stl

Of course I'm the only one that didn't score in the Midnight Madness game. Just give me a towel and I'll wave that thing with pride on the sideline.

Opening Game Line-Up Released by OSU

After a somewhat successful midnight madness last week, the Operation Sports Hawks have released their line-up for their opening game. We aren't sure who it's against yet, but their schedule is supposed to be released in the very near future. With that said, let's take a look at who they are putting on the floor.

For the most part it turned out how expected after the inter squad game. The only notable change was Adam Rizzo jumping Adrian Marvell to be the #2 SF on the team. The change makes sense as Rizzo's defensive play shut down Marvell completely. Let's take a closer look at each of the players.

Andre Harrell
Scouting Report: Harrell is a pass first point guard. His speed and quickness allows for him to drive to the rim at will, but he prefers to kick it out and rack up the assists. Isn't going to be a scoring threat, but he did put up 8 points in the 20 minute intersquad game.

David Walls
Scouting Report: Typical 3-point shooting SG. The only upper classman on the team, looks to provide leadership and plenty of points. His weakness is that he is slow and isn't a great shooter inside the 3-point line.

Dalton Henry
Scouting Report: Another great shooter. Can knock down shots from 3 with ease, as well as hit the open mid range. Could have trouble getting shots off due to his small size for the position.

Hunter Wagner
Scouting Report: Wagner is more of an oversized SF. He likes to shoot from distance, and is actually really good at it for a power forward. Very athletic and can throw down some monster dunks. Defense down low is going to be an issue, and isn't a good rebounder.

Harlee Estepp
Scouting Report: Estepp is a monster of a man. He isn't a good shooter at all, but at 7'3" he's going to have his share of easy buckets regardless. Great shot blocker, and can hold his own as a solid rebounder and defender. Weaknesses are ballhandling, passing, and free throws.

Brandon Crenshaw
Scouting Report: Crenshaw is the only PG on the team that can be called even a decent shooter. Great at passing the ball, but ballhandling can be an issue at times. Also good at stealing the ball. Size is an issue here, at only 5'8" he's going to have a tough time playing defense against bigger guards.

T.J. Sizemore
Scouting Report: Another 3-point shooter. Fast for a SG, but other than that he's average at everything else. Will probably be the biggest contributor off the bench due to his scoring ability.

David Sooner
Scouting Report: Sooner had the disadvantage of going against a 7'3" guy, so his numbers don't represent him well. He can score the ball, and can even hit a mid range shot from time to time. He's a solid rebounder and a great shot blocker. Not great at handling the rock and isn't quick at all.

T.J. Youngblood
Scouting Report: Youngblood is another one of those PF that love to shoot from the next area code. He's good at it too, and is also a solid ballhandler and passer. Is average at the post, and isn't a great rebounder. Very athletic for his size, and shoot be able to contribute on the transition game.

Adam Rizzo
Scouting Report: Rizzo is like the guy that's just happy to be there. He isn't going to blow people away with anything he does, but contributes to the little things. He can hit the open shot when he needs to, but can also rebound and handle the ball pretty well. Isn't really bad at anything he should be good at.

Gabriel Yu-Law
Scouting Report: Yu-Law is probably the fastest player on the team, barely beating out Harrell. Great ball handler and good passer. Likes to drive to the rim, and can score that way if necessary. Not great on defense. Though he's low on the depth chart right now, he could be one to watch as he has the skills to be very good.

Adrian Marvell
Scouting Report: Marvell is an athletic freak. His on ball defense is superb, and he can hit the open mid-range shot. Also has highlight reel dunks on a regular basis. Not good from long range, on the post, or rebounder. He should be able to provide a spark off the bench, and if he finds his rhythm he could wind up starting sometime down the road.

Here is how the rotations are set right now. Starters are at 20 minutes, 6th and 7th men (Crenshaw & Sizemore) are at 15, and everyone else is at 14. Hopefully it kind of balances out, but we'll see since it's the CPU and not me.
