Re: Rev Your Engines Motor City | Detroit Pistons Dynasty(2k11)

Looking Ahead...

Last Year’s Record: 27-55 (successfully didn't make the playoffs)
Predicted Record: 35 - 47
Key Losses:
55 of them
Kwame Brown
Chucky Atkins
Key Additions:
Greg Monroe (draft)
Terrico White (draft)
Tracy McGrady (free agent)

It's not 2004 anymore and the Detroit organization and the fans need to realize that. They are not going anywhere with the talents of Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, and Ben Wallce. Although they have done a lot for the organization and the front office seems to think they have to be loyalty to these players, but that cannot continue to happen. These once core players, are better suited helping other teams contend for titles. Whether Joe Dumars decides that he can part ways with these former key players remains to be scene, but until he does, this team will not be contending for the playoffs anytime soon, even in the weakened Eastern Conference.

The road to mediocrity started with the signings of Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva to lucrative deals that they probably didn't deserve. Last season the team was plagued with injuries all around the court, their lack of a true point guard and inside presence was enough to hold them to 27 wins.

During the off-season, the team was in no market to sign any of the big free agents that ruled the news wire. The team instead decided to bring back Ben Wallace and Will Bynum to 2 and 3 year deals, that wouldn't hurt the team in any financial way. The team also elected to sign former 2x scoring champion, and multiple All-Star Tracy McGrady. McGrady isn't getting any younger, but when healthy can he still play basketball, if McGrady remains healthy it could wind up being a steal for Detroit.

In the 2010 draft, the team selected big man Greg Monroe from Georgetown with the 7th pick. Monroe may not have the same ceiling as DeMarcus Cousins or Derrick Favors, but his skill will pay dividends for a team that couldn't buy a bucket in the post last season. In the second round of the draft, Dumars nabbed Terrico White. Everybody knows or read that Terrico is somewhat of a freak athlete, but still scoffed at the idea of him as a basketball player because, "wahhh, he's another guard!!!!1" (That's taken verbatim out of my live Gournal). Then, in an effort to not necessarily win over anybody, but to tell his doubters to go Darko themselves, he clearly, and impressively, won an impromptu rookie slam dunk contest (while his shoes were untied) and was subsequently voted most athletic rookie by the same fellow rooks (by more than twice the percentage of votes the next rookie received, who was not named John Wall -- Wall only received the third most votes). He's the kind of athlete that almost makes you hope that the ten guards in front of him have injury problems again just so you can see what he's capable of doing on the court.

So far the team has at least 1 solid corner stone piece to build around. Whether Greg Monroe can efficiently play the Center position or will be more suited as the team's Power Forward remains to be seen. Let's see what Joe Dumars has in store.

Long Season Ahead...
vs
Oct 27, 2010 - DET at NJN
TEAM1ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Detroit Pistons (0-1)23182732100
New Jersey Nets (1-0)15282632101

Detroit AP - In a match up of two disappointing NBA franchises, it turned out to be an exciting one at the Izod Center in New Jersey. A few years back these were two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, oh how the might have fallen since then. In a game where turnovers headlined and a buzzer beating shot was accomplished.

With 2 seconds left down by 1, Travis Outlaw inbounded a pass to Brook Lopez as he drove and the layed the ball up flying past Ben Wallace for an easy basket as time expired. An exciting finish in New Jersey by two bad teams, who woulda thought?

Tracy McGrady who received the start at Point Guard, as the team feels his veteran presence is more suited as setting people up, something he has been good at his career. That and the fact that Stuckey is also a shoot first guard, and this will give the team more chances to spread the ball around. He will need to lose the shoot first mentality he has had throughout his injury plagued career, but this game is a sign that T-Mac does in fact still possess "it". T-Mac went 8-10 from the field, sporting impressive numbers, with 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Sort of typical to his career numbers.

Rookie Greg Monroe was impressive in his NBA Debut, going up against fellow rookie Derrick Favors. In this matchup Monroe got the better of the two, although he saw a lot more of Brook Lopez as Monroe was the delegated Center. Even though the Nets won, Monroe recorded his first career double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in 33 minutes.

In two days the Pistons will travel back home to take on Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
DET:
Tracy McGrady - 20 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds
Rodney STuckey - 18 points, 8 assists
Charlie Villanueva - 15 points, 5 rebounds
Tayshaun Prince - 14 points, 6 rebounds
Greg Monroe - 10 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals

NJN:
BRook Lopez - 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks
Damion James 20 points, 5 rebounds
Devin Harris - 17 points, 7 assists, 7 steals
Derrick Favors - 9 poiints, 6 rebounds

Durant Drops 46 All Over Motor City
vs

Oct 29, 2010 - OKC at DET
TEAM1ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Oklahoma City Thunder (2-0)23281835104
Detroit Pistons (0-2)1625252490

Quote:
Detroit AP - One thing to take away from this game is that the Pistons cannot guard the wing. They allowed 20 points to Damion James two days ago and now 46 points to Kevin Durant. Even though it is Kevin Durant, Tayshaun Prince used to be a solid defender, key word there use to be.

Another thing learned today is that the Pistons have a lot of players that need minutes at the wing position and they can't evenly get all those players minutes. That and the fact all these players need their touches, whether it be Stuckey, Hamilton, Gordon, Prince, Daye, all these players need to shoot the ball and there isn't enough balls to go around for these players.

The game was only kept close in the 3rd quarter when the Pistons actually wiped out a 16-point deficit to only trail by 1, but then the quarter ended the the Thunder went right back to what they do best, score and play defense.

Ben Gordon scored 14 of his 18 points in the 3rd quarter. After only scoring 2 in the 1st half, Gordon was only played 19 minutes, something that has been inconsistent throughout his first year in Detroit was his playing time. Coach Kuester also can't just give more minutes game-by-game to the player that is shooting the ball well that night.

Charlie Villanueva led the Pistons with 22 points and 2 rebounds, it seems Head Coach Keuster is seemingly going to give Vallaneuva his minutes and opportunity to shoot the ball, as they did pay the man a lot of money to come here. If only the same thing could be said about Ben Gordon, if Villanueva and Gordon can put up numbers like tonight, the the Pistons would have some good pieces to build around including Greg Monroe, who was in foul trouble most of the night so was unable to establish any rhythm throughout his 15 minutes of game time.

Now if they can just play defense...

DET:
Charlie Villanueva - 22 points, 12 rebounds
Tracy McGrady - 19 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds
Ben Gordon - 18 points, 8 rebounds
Rip Hamilton - 11 points, 5 rebounds

OKC:
Kevin Durant - 46 points, 8 rebounds, 5-18 3PT
James Harden - 17 points
Russell Westbrook - 17 points 18 assists, 4 rebounds
Jeff Green - 12 points
Serge Ibaka - 6 points, 12 rebounds
