Re: The NBA Career of Brian Happel
HAPPEL WELL OUT IN FRONT AS FIRST ALL-STAR BALLOT NUMBERS RELEASED
Orlando, FL (AP) - With the season Magic forward Brian Happel is happening, it's no surprise he's leading all vote-getters so far. The first ballot numbers were released this weekend. Happel is well out in front with more than 1.5 million votes already. Nobody else has one million votes yet, although LeBron James has more than 900,000. It's no secret that Happel is a fan favorite, both in Orlando and across the NBA In the Western Conference, Chris Paul is leading the vote tally with nearly 850,000. Kevin Durant is leading among forwards, and Lakers big man Andrew Bynum is the top center in the west, so far.

MAGIC CHOP DOWN TIMBERWOLVES, HAPPEL INJURED
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel's great defense turns into instant, break-away offense Orlando, FL (AP) - It's one of those moments where your heart stops, as a fan, a teammate, a member of the coaching staff, the team president, family and friends all holding their breath right now. Orlando picked up another easy victory, beating Minnesota 111-89. However, the win proved to be a very costly one. With 5:42 left in the game, Magic forward Brian Happel went up for a rebound and landed awkardly on his right foot. He went down in a heap, and time seemed to stop at the Amway Center. Happel could not finish the game. Early reports indicate a twisted ankle, which could be enough to sideline him for a couple of weeks. However, the team is getting an MRI done this morning to see if there is anything torn. Happel was visibly frustrated, as he hobbled around on cruches after the game. "Injuries are a part of the game, unfortunately. But you better believe I'm gonna work my butt off to get back on the court as soon as humanly possible."
The injury overshadowed what was easily one of Happel's best all-around games of his career. He poured in 40 points on 18-22 shooting, hitting 14 shots in a row at one point. He also grabbed 11 rebounds. Happel was on his way to a possible triple-double, as well. He handed out 7 assists. And, just for good measure, he came up with 5 steals and swatted away 2 shots. "He was just a one-man wrecking crew out there," said Dwight Howard, "When he wanted to score, he scored. When he wanted a teammate to score, he found the open guy. He was a force on defense. It was an amazing performance to watch." Happel was all over the court, here picking up one of his 2 blocked shots on the evening Happel had plenty of help from his teammates. Andray Blatche played a great game down low, scoring 25 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. He also had 5 assists and 2 steals. Center Dwight Howard was just short of a double-double with 10 points and 8 boards. John Salmons saw more action than he has in a while and took advantage, scoring 7 points on 3-6 shooting. In fact, the Magic just keep outshooting their opponents. Orlando was able to hit on 52% of its shots overall, including a respectable 5-12 from downtown. Happel showing he's got ice in his veins, draining a three-pointer just before halftime Once again, Orlando used a fast start in the third quarter to turn what was a relatively close game into a laugher. The Magic used a 9-2 run right out of the gate after halftime to push a 10 point lead to 17, and it never really got close after that. Orlando hit on 13-22 shots from the field in the third frame, good for 59%. And, the Magic played lock-down defense, holding the Timberwolves to just 34% shooting for the quarter. The first and third quarters have been the difference makers so far this season for Orlando, outscoring its opponents by an average of about 7 points in each of those quarters.
Yunlong Lue was the offensive leader for Minnesota. The rookie swingman registered a career high 21 points. Johnny Flynn did a decent job running the offense, handing out 7 assists and scoring 13 points. The bigger story, and the positive thing to come out of this game for the Timberwolves, was the play of the bench. Minnesota outscored Orlando's bench 42-20. Still, it wasn't nearly enough. VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was flying high, connecting on a pair of nice alley-oop passes The Timberwolves did a sufficient job getting to the foul line, and then taking advantage once they were at the charity stripe. Minnesota made 15-16 free throws, while Orlando only shot 6-9 from the line. However, the Timberwolves struggled protecting the basketball. They turned the ball over 14 times, compared to just 7 for the Magic. That big difference was in large part due to the 12 steals Orlando came away with. Orlando also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the T-Wolves 46-33. The Magic will now wait to see how long Happel will be out for. The injury comes just in time for a tough three-game west coast road trip against Phoenix, the Clippers and the Lakers. Happel was not shy about taking it strong to the rack, here turning a Timberwolves player into a poster shot

Re: The NBA Career of Brian Happel
Following this. Happel is a beast I'd like to trade for him in my franchise lol
One thing I'd suggest though, is maybe every once in a while present things in a different way just to mix things up and keep it interesting. Like I think an occasional article perhaps weighing Happel's place among the greatest at his position (current or all-time), or Happel vs LeBron/Kobe for most dominant player of this era, etc. Everything looks great so far though keep up the good work |

Re: The NBA Career of Brian Happel
HAPPEL OUT 2-3 WEEKS WITH ANKLE INJURY
Orlando, FL (AP) - The Orlando Magic will have to go without star forward Brian Happel for the next couple of weeks. Sources with the training staff say Happel suffered a twisted ankle during last night's game against Minnesota. "The frustrating thing is that it happened while we were way ahead," said center Dwight Howard, "It's one of those things where he's just going to go all out all the time, no matter what the score. It feels like one of those things that just didn't have to happen." Happel was still hobbling around the practice facility this afternoon on crutches. He refused to blame anyone for the injury, "These things just happen. It's not anybody's fault. I was going for a rebound and just landed funny. Yes, we had a big lead. But, the same thing could've happened in the first couple of minutes of the game. Or, it could've happened in the last seconds of a close game against Miami."
Happel will now join Gilbert Arenas watching from the sidelines. Arenas has been out for a little more than a week with a separated shoulder. Sources with the team say he could be back later this week - maybe in time for one of the Los Angeles games. Happel has missed 12 games so far in his career - 10 in his rookie season and 2 last year. Getting out to such a hot start is key, now. The team just has to tread water until Arenas and Happel can get back on the court.

Re: The NBA Career of Brian Happel
ORLANDO COOLS OFF SUNS, WIN FIRST GAME WITHOUT HAPPEL
Phoenix, AZ (AP) - Sometimes, timing really is everything. After losing swingman Brian Happel to an injury two nights ago against Minnesota, and still missing point guard Gilbert Arenas, the first team standing in Orlando's way was Phoenix. The Suns have struggled this year, and the Magic took advantage of that. Orlando used a strong third quarter to pull ahead by double digits and never look back for the 98-85 win on the road. "Everyone's just going to have to step up while our guys get healthy," commented Stephen Jackson after the game, who led the Magic in scoring with 31 points, "It may be a tough couple of weeks, but we'll be a better team because of it." Jackson has been running more point guard lately since Gilbert Arenas got hurt, and while Jackson did some scoring, he also dished out 8 assists. Dwight Howard was a monster around the basket, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Orlando used the foul line to do a lot of scoring, going 23-32 from the charity stripe. The Magic also shot the ball well, once again, hitting 50% from the field, including 7-18 from long distance. Zach Randolph led the way for Phoenix, scoring 20 points. However, he struggled shooting the ball, going just 6-17 from the field. Josh Childress contributed a double-double, scoring 13 and grabbing 10 boards. Up next for Orlando, a couple of days in Hollywood. The Magic take on the Clippers Friday night at Staples Center, followed by the Lakers on Saturday night.

Re: The NBA Career of Brian Happel
L.A. CLIPS ORLANDO, ENDING 12 GAME WIN STREAK
Los Angeles, CA (AP) - Well, it was bound to happen. Playing a good team short-handed just didn't add up to a good night at the Staples Center. The "other" L.A. team beat up on Orlando, winning 101-83. The fourth quarter proved to be deadly for the Magic. Orlando had managed to get the deficit under double digits by the end of the third quarter. But, the Clippers outscored the Magic 29-19 in the final frame to get the easy victory. Shooting was the story in this one. Usually, Orlando is the team with the shooting advantage. But on this night, the Magic shot just 45% from the field, including a woeful 2-14 from long distance. Meantime, the Clippers connected on 51% of their shots. Turnovers were the other story, Orlando giving up 21 of them. "When we're sloppy with the ball like that, there's no way we're going to win," said Dwight Howard. Howard did all he could to help his team win. He scored 29 points on 12-15 shooting from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds. Stephen Jackson also played well, scoring 15 points and handing out 10 dimes. But, he also had 5 turnovers. DeJuan Blair also struggled holding on to the ball, with 6 turnovers. And, Andray Blatche had a poor night shooting, going just 2-15 from the field. For the Clippers, there wasn't one player that really dominated. Five players scored in double-figures, including rookie small forward O.J. Marshall, who led the way with 20 points. Blake Griffin didn't get a lot of shots, scoring just 12 points on 5-10 shooting, while grabbing 8 boards. The good news for Orlando is that it looks like they'll be getting their floor general back. Gilbert Arenas is expected to return to the lineup later tonight when the Magic take on their rivals, the Lakers, in an NBA Finals rematch.

Re: The NBA Career of Brian Happel
BUZZER-BEATER CAPS "MAGICAL" COMEBACK OVER L.A.
Los Angeles, CA (AP) - It's appropriate that this one essentially had a climatic, storybook ending. Gilbert Arenas, playing in his first game in 2 weeks, hit a buzzer-beating, game-winning three-pointer from the left corner to cap a second half comeback and beat Orlando's hated rivals, the Lakers, on their home turf. "Yo, I was just glad to be out there, man. Sitting around watching from the sidelines has been rough. But to knock out the Lakers like that, it's a great feeling," said Arenas after celebrating with his teammates. Los Angeles jumped out to a double-digit lead early, and held a 32-21 advantage after the first quarter. The Magic made a run to cut into the deficit, but an 8-0 run by the Lakers in the last 3:30 gave L.A. a 12 point cushion going into halftime. But, just like Orlando has done all season long, the team came out firing in the third quarter, taking the lead a few times. The Lakers ultimately held a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter, and it was back-and-forth the rest of the way. Until Arenas made sure Orlando ended up on top. Andray Blatche, who led the Magic offensively with 33 points on an incredible 13-16 shooting, hit a jumper at the right elbow with 52 seconds left to break a 101-101 tie. Pau Gasol couldn't tie it up with a hook shot on the next possession, but Bynum picked up one of his 9 rebounds, and the Lakers were able to reset. Kobe Bryant nailed his only three of the game with 7.2 seconds on the clock for a 104-103 lead. Then, Arenas got free in the corner and nailed the long distance jumper as time expired, setting off a wild celebration. "Give them credit," Bryant said afterwards, "They're not backing down from anyone. But, we shouldn't have lost that game. We let them back in it, and didn't make enough plays down the stretch." The Magic will get some much needed rest, now. Orlando comes home to face Toronto on Tuesday, then the team has 3 days off before its next game, again at home, a rematch with the Clippers.
