Houston Chronicle – In a rematch of the November 18 game between Texas Southern and UTEP showed some potential to be a great game. The game was very close throughout, but once again, the Tigers failed to hold on to the victory, losing the game by one point. “The number of games we have lost in our nonconference is staggering. Some teams manage to lose less than 8 games in an entire season. Now in no way did I intend on being perfect, but the number of games we have lost by 3 points or less is ridiculous. 4 is the number. Half of our losses have been by 3 points. That is angering because that means we had the potential to win the game but let it slip out of our fingers. Now we are out of games to boost against, we are out of games to try out different lineups. We are in the conference schedule where every game counts. Losing one game may not appear bad at first but down the road at the Conference tournament, you may end up playing a team that exploited your weakness and that would mean an early exit and most likely no NCAA tournament booth for you. We have a week off before our matchup with Southern and we are going to use it to get healthy and practice late game situations because now is the time where losing is not an option.” Coach Williams said before leaving the podium and heading towards his office. The Tigers will play their next game in the new year and hope that with the new year comes the ability to have a new record. That new record is the conference standings.

Houston Chronicle – The Texas Southern Tigers handle their first conference opponent, the Southern Jaguars, with ease. “This was the type of ball I knew our team was capable of playing all season.” Coach Williams said when asked about the game. “We were able to dominate a game and we did it when our best shooter had arguably his worst night of the season. But we were able to get production from our other players and that shows the depth of this team. But we cant let this victory get to our heads. We have to settle down and prepare for our second game against Prairie View.” The Tigers will host the Prairie View Panthers with the intention of remaining undefeated in 2008.

Houston Chronicle – Another late game collapse for the Tigers causes them to fall to 1-1 in conference play. This was their second double overtime game of the season and they are yet to claim a victory in them. “We as a team have become to complacent with how we respond in games. We blow out Southern and expect the rest of the conference games will be a breeze just like that. Well we got the wake up call we needed and it starts with immediate changes once again to the lineup. We started out the game losing 12-1 because we couldn’t get a rebound to save our life. So I am moving Drewy from the starting PF spot and replacing him with Harris. Harris has been giving us consistent play off the bench and after I put him in the game, we seemed to grab boards and make our comeback into the game. I am also putting Norwood back on watch. He struggled horrendously last game from all over the floor and another performance like that will result in him being on the bench again. Now I understand that we are facing an injury forcing others to pick up minutes but missing 8 dunks is inexcusable. If we had made 2 of those dunks, this game would have had a different outcome. Nonetheless, there is no use in crying over spilled milk. The only thing you can do is learn from it. I am going to watch game film and prepare this team for Alcorn St. next Thursday and hopefully we can improve our conference record to 2-1 instead of fall to 1-2 because we are already behind other teams in the SWAC who sit undefeated in play. We could have been one of those teams but we failed in the clutch and that has to change if we want to get late into March.” Coach Williams said to reporters after the press conference. The Tigers will play another home game against Alcorn St. (3-9)(0-2). If the Tigers can circle the wagons with this game, they can turn around their season and potentially make the run in March that Coach desires.
