Houston Chronicle – With the SWAC season well under way, teams are starting to be contenders or pretenders. The Texas Southern Tigers proved that they are contenders and with their 3rd straight SWAC victory, proved they will be a force. “Ever since making the size change, we sit undefeated” said Coach Williams to reporters during press conference. “We were able to execute all of our plays to perfection. It also helped that we forced their players into early foul trouble. Overall it was a good victory for us, but we have to turn back around and finish our season series with Alcorn State”. The Tigers will play Alcorn St, exactly a week one week after their first game, which ended in a 47-35 victory for the Tigers. Coach Williams can only hope the results will be the same because a victory over Alcorn St. would net him his 10th victory of the season and his career and also give him his longest winning streak of his young career at 4 in a row.

Houston Chronicle – If the Tigers make a deep run into march and possible upset a team and create madness, the will have Sollie Norwood to thank. “This kid is ridiculous” said Coach Williams. “At one point in the season, I contemplated cutting him from my roster because of his failed productivity. But we had a talk and ever since then he has simply carried us with his shooting ability and is doing his best to carry us all the way into march. I know that gaining 10 wins in a season is difficult to do without a player you can trust in the clutch. I trust Norwood and know that our success this season will be our effectiveness to play slow ball and Norwood consistent shooting.” The Tigers next game will be back in Houston, against Ark Pine Bluff. Another team who hopes to use the SWAC’s weak teams to get themselves a spot into the madness.

Houston Chronicle – Coach Williams was the talk of Houston when he was hired as the new Texas Southern Mens Basketball Coach. At the beginning of the season, he seemed to be a mistake and would possibly be the first one and done coach. But after hitting the SWAC Schedule, he has not looked back. Within the month of January alone, his team went 6-1 with their lone loss coming in double OT on a buzzer beater. Nonetheless, Coach Williams is not impressed. “I knew we were capable of this the whole time. We get constant production from Bell and Harris, our two bigs, we get decent shooting from Norwood and nice play from our subs and we can contend with anyone. It also make us more dangerous because we have Miller, one of our backup PG’s, and that adds new depth to the position. While he was down, Walker stepped up his play tremendously, especially on the defensive end. Now with Miller, I will be able to use to my ability, the best leader on the floor when White needs a breather. If I need someone to lock down their guard, then in goes Walker at PG and Miller at SG. If their guard is bigger than average or is in a frenzy from all of the noise or just not composed, in goes Miller to help increase the pressure and hopefully create turnovers. Overall, we have become a more dangerous team, and at perfect timing as well. With 11 games left in the regular season, we have no time to slack off. We have to continue the success we are having in hopes to grab a spot in the NCAA tournament, something that Texas Southern University, has not been a part of.” Stated Coach Williams at the post game press conference. The Tigers next game will be against a strong as of late Alabama St. team (5-10)(5-2) with hopes of turning their season around with help of the SWAC.
