Re: Coaching Career of Rodney Williams

Note to anyone who reads my dynasty, I am going to have the updated record for teams in the box score. Before I was remembering to write down the records before i started the game, but for the games i played today, i forgot and wrote down the ones after the game was done, so I will be using that method from now on.

Tigers blow double-digit lead but manage to hold on for victory

Feb 16, 2008 - Gram at TSU
TEAM1ST2NDSCORE
Grambling (6-15)212445
Texas Southern (15-9)262854

TSU MVP: White – 8 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast
GRAM MVP: Ratliff – 30 pts, 8-15 from 3

Houston Chronicle – With the month of February coming to a close, the teams in the SWAC are starting to establish themselves. One team, TSU Tigers, are amongst the top of the pack and looking to help extend their lead. “The mantra that getting a win no matter how you do it is nice to do. That is somewhat true, but it isn’t good to get a victory when there appears to be a blueprint for your possible defeat.” Said Coach Williams. “In this game, we at one point led by 13 points. Then in a matter of minutes watched our lead vanish, and we as a team were forced to come from behind in a game that we once led. The blueprint is out, and any team with a 3pt shooter will be gunning for us. We have only finished our series with and Grambling. We still have 7 games remaining and I’m sure in our rematch with Alabama A&M, Hester will be grinning at the chops, now knowing our weakness. Overall, the best thing we can do is stay healthy of late and make a run in the SWAC Tournament.”. The Tigers will play Jackson St. next Wednesday in Houston for the final of the two teams series.

Re: Coaching Career of Rodney Williams

TSU manages to Win and Lose in the same game???

Feb 18, 2008 - JSU at TSU
TEAM1ST2NDSCORE
Jackson St. (12-15)293463
Texas Southern (16-9)333669

TSU MVP: White – 14 pts, 7 ast, 7 stl

Houston Chronicle – The TSU Tigers went into their game against Jackson St. looking to improve their record in conference play. The last thing they needed was a tough game against a SWAC foe. That was what happened in that game, as the Tigers managed to comeback at their own home. Another thing that was at the back of Coach Williams mind was a player catching the injury bug in his lineup. That also was another thing that happened for the Tigers. Also to add insult to injury was that the injury happened to one of the starters. “It was tough coming to terms with the injury,” said Coach Williams. “It will be a long 28 days for us as a team to function without our leading scorer Sollie Norwood. We managed to get a late morale run from our seniors to help seal the deal, but without our consistent scorer we will be pushed to our limits. Our doctors right now have us getting Norwood back right before our first game of the NCAA tournament, if we make it that far. The new Bracket-ology special on ESPN has us currently sitting as a 15 seed in the tournament. And most likely that seed will be given to the winner of the SWAC tournament. Apparently our SOS wasn’t strong enough to boost our RPI as we currently sit with a 200+ RPI. So our only hope right now rests on winning the SWAC Tournament. The one positive about having the injury now is that it gives us 6 games to try to find the other distribution of points. The 15 points that Norwood averaged for us will have to come from other players. Most likely it will be Burrell, a player whom earlier in the season I gave some starting experience because of failed production from Norwood. Now Burrell will be thrust back into the starting 5 and hopefully he can gel with the others in order to keep our number 1 seed in the SWAC tourney in tact. For now we have to simply look towards our next game against Miss Valley State. This will be our first matchup against the Devils which puts us at a disadvantage. We don’t have any current game film on the team which means we wont have any way to prepare. Most coaches, when faced with adversity, say they will look for their senior leaders to prevail in these moments and lead the team. I am able to say that with a twist because my senior leaders are in this situation for the first time. They are used to seeing another name next to the head coach spot every 2 seasons. I already have accumulated more wins in one season than the last head coach had in his 3 years. I just hope to continue this success and hope that my seniors can prevail and learn along the way as the try to claim a SWAC title for TSU.”
