Reporter Ryne Young to Leave EPSN8

For the past 3 years Ryne Young has worked at EPSN "The Ocho" as the College Inside Basketball reporter. Now instead of reporting on the news around the nation, he will be coaching from the sidelines.

It's been reported that Ryne Young has signed a 3yr contract to become the 14th Head Coach of the Sacremento State Hornets.

          COACH YOUNG ANNOUCNES STARTING 5

With just 10 players on the roster, Coach Young split the squad into 2 teams for the Hornets Nest Midnight Showcase. Gold and Green
          Gold
          PG-5'10 SR Sultan Toles-Bey
          SG-6'3 JR A. Proctor
          SF-6'3 SO J. Groom
          PF-6'9 JR J. McCarver
          C-6'8 JR A. N'Diaye

          Green
          PG-6'3 FR J. Carbajal
          SG-6'3 FR K. Groom
          SF-6'5 JR W. Jackson
          PF-6'6 JR Z. Nelson
          C-6'7 JR M. Owayed

Coach Young Comments from the game.

"Well the Gold dominated which we assumed they would. They are the projected starters, they have the most expierence and they had the height advantage down low. Owayed showed he will be a focal point of the bench filling in at the 3,4, and 5 spot and Nelson showed he can also played multiple spots and will battle Dickson for the starting SF spot. Our lack of 3pt shooting will force us to move the ball down the court quickly and look for easy transition baskets for McCarver and N'Diaye."

              HORNETS STRUGGLE UNDER COACH YOUNG

Sacremento State lost 79-71 in their home opener to UC Riverside, then traveled to Cheney Washington to play in the Polar Bear Classic where they proceeded to drop 3 straight (IUPUI 78-52), SC Upstate (68-60) and Delaware St (66-61)

The Hornets however returned home to California pulling out a 72-64 win over Pacific bfore beating Santa Clara at home 85-64 for their first 2 wins of the year.

However the goodtimes ended as CSSU lost 74-61 to San Jose State to close out the month of November with a 2-5 record.

              HORNETS WIN NON-CONFERNCE TOURNEY!!

Things would go from bad to worse before getting better for Coach Young. After falling on the road to San Jose State, the Hornets dropped 4 straight all at homes in the confinds of "The Nest".
              65-64 to Cal Poly
              71-70 to UCSB
              60-47 to CS Fullerton
              71-65 to CS Northridge

However with a 2-9 record, Sacremento State headed to Vegas where they would celebrate with victories over UT-Pan American (86-43) and Texas Southern (86-79) to win the Jackpot Challenge.

CSSU is now 4-9 entering Big Sky play.

Thanks. 1st time ever trying to play with Sacremento State. Normally I mess with the rosters until I get EWU on the closed list, but didnt' feel like taking the time. I also use to run with Northern Colorado alot with the old rosters from 08.

Being a westcoast guy I like using teams from the Big Sky/Big West/WAC/MWC/WCC and Pac-10.

My hopes with this legacy is to move on to a WCC school and give Gonzaga and SMC a run for their money. however should the ability to take over BSU come available I would jump at the chance to go dominate the WAC. I would then like to take over a Pac-10 school like Cal, OSU,ASU or my dream job WSU.

HORNETS GO 8-8 IN BIG SKY!!!

Year 1 turned into a somewhat successfull year for Coach Young and the CSSU program. The Hornets finished .500 going 8-8 in the Big Sky for a 5th place finish and after battling injuries and inconsistancy for most of the season. Here is recap of the games.

Comments by Coach Young "We had several close games in which I feel like 1 or 2 plays different and we could've been the #2 or #3 seed going into the Big Sky tourney, but hey at least we made it. Injuries plagued N'Didaye and McCarver and when they were forced to miss games, it showed our lack of big men capable of giving us a solid offensive scoring option out there."

                  FINAL STANDINGS

                  N. Colorado 10-6
                  Montana 9-7

                  Idaho State 6-10
                  Portland State 5-11

                  N. Colorado and Montana will earn 1st Round byes for the tourney. #3 Weber State will take on #5 Montana State well #6 Sacremento State will take on #4 NAU. The winner of the CSSU and NAU game will take on #1 seed N. Colorado.

Note: NAU won both matchups earlier in the season against the Hornets.

For the 3rd time this season, CSSU falls to NAU. The Lumberjacks took a 50-37 lead in the 1st half as CSSU struggled to contain the outside shooting of E. COACH YOUNG FINDS SUCCESS OFF THE COURT

With only SR PG S. Toles-Bey scheduled to leave the team, Coach Young entered the 2010-2011 season with 4 scholarships to offer.

His 1st priority was to find a PG to replace Toley-Bey, his 2nd priority was to find guys who could shoot the ball, and #3 was to improve his overall size of his squad.

Well he did all 3. Here is a breakdown of the 4 players who signed on to be Hornets next year.
                        3*SF 6'4 SF C. Brewington (#156 Overall/#30 SF)-San Diego CA
                        3*SG 6'4 SG C. Hipsher (#184 Overall/#41 SG)-Phoenix AZ
                        3* PF 6'8 J. Legans (#378 Overall/#67 PF)-Scottsdale AZ
                        3* PG 5'11 P. Beye (World Recruit)-Sengal.

Coach Young "Overall I am very happy with this year's class. Brewington we targeted from Day 1 and were happy to get him to sign with us. Hipsher sorta landed in our laps. We were actually scouting Legans and had planned on giving his scholarship to another bigman, but in the end we couldn't pass up a opportunity to get a guy rated in the Top-200 players. Both should be starters Day 1 as well as PG Paco Beye from Sengal. Having Coach Kilgore on staff was a huge reason why we found this kid. Legans will start the year as a backup for McCarver and N'Didaye at the 4/5 spots. But should either go down to injury then he will step in and start."

Not MSU. I played with EWU. CincyFan played with MSU back in the day over at 2ksports forum.

                            Good to see you back.

Very nice group of recruits. Look forward to seeing how you make them grow together.

I know you are simming, but are you doing developmental drills or changing training & tendencies at all?
