Small Town, Big Dreams - Roy Gallagher (CHoops 2k8)

Sacramento State takes a stab in the dark
It isn't every day that you would see a fresh coaching prospect graduate college just in time to be hired to a collegiate head coaching job. Yet that would be the news today as the Sacramento State Hornets penned head coach Roy Gallagher to a head coaching job. The Hornets play in the small conference, the Big West which is just an association of California universities. The Hornets hope that at best he will lead them to a top half finish in the Big West. Raised in Northern Illinois, Gallagher graduated with honors from Northern Illinois University with a dual major of Coaching and Sports Management giving him the ability to not only coach but also sell the program.

Coaching skills will be gained over time, what he comes in with is persuasion skills that should give him some good influence over potential recruits which should give him a chance to lead the Hornets into a golden era of basketball. All of his other skills are considered average at best.

The 2007-2008 season will open with the Hangar challenge where the Hornets will travel to the Air Force Academy to face off against the Virginia Military Institute, the tournament should be fairly easy for the Sacramento State Hornets who will if they survive VMI, will find themselves facing off against Air Force themselves or Dartmouth.

The out of conference schedule features two ranked opponents, the 23rd ranked Oregon Ducks and the 17th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles. Besides that, the only other challenges will come from Pacific, Santa Clara and CSU Bakerfield.

Sultan Toles-Bey the senior point guard from Sacramento is the undisputed leader of this squad and will be the only senior on the starting line up. Walk on Zach Nelson should make some waves for the Hornets at the small forward position as a true junior, he will be the clear starter.

Hornets Limp through 2007

Hangar Challenge 2007
11/9 - (5-6) - L 61-73
11/10 - (1-10) - W 81-64
11/14 - (6-6) - L 54-79
11/17 - (6-7) - L 48-58
11/21 @ (4-6) - L 53-70
11/25 (5-6) - L 57-69
11/27 (8-6) - L 73-76
12/11 @ 15 (9-3) L 45-67
12/14 (9-4) W 72-55
12/15 @ 8 L 54-95
12/27 (6-6) W 63-61
12/28 (6-4) L 53-69 CONF

A disappointing open to the 2007 season has many Hornet fans wondering if the new coach can even get the school to be capable of even contending in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets only wins came from Boston U, Binghamton and Air Force, the later most, being the only surprising victory. Weak showings against beatable teams has many not excited for the upcoming conference tournament. The coaching staff has a long way to go in order to be even thinking about hitting .500, but a positive being they are on their way to recruiting the heir to Toles-Bey.

Recruiting Overview
B.B. Rose (PG) ***- Chico, Ca - 394/116 - 100% Interest - Top School
Richie Larranaga (SF) **- Sacramento, Ca - 533/102 - 71% Interest - Top School
Christian Harrington (PG) ***- Stockton, Ca - 217/38 - 71% Interest - 2nd School
Wang Coleman (PF) ***- San Mateo, Ca - 402/64 - 56% Interest - 2nd School

Hornets make some excitement in the Big Sky, but fall short
1/3 (4-10) W 78-61
1/5 (4-12) W 74-71
1/10 (5-9) W 64-59
1/12 (6-7) W 68-55
1/15 Cal State Bakersfield (5-14) L 52-58 OOC
1/19 (10-7) W 63-59
1/23 (5-13) L 59-74
1/25 W 74-60
2/2 (17-10) W 71-67
2/7 (9-20) L 71-75
2/9 (7-20) W 66-54
2/14 (12-14) L 60-74
2/16 (13-15) L 50-70
2/19 (17-12) L 62-89
2/28 (10-18) L 46-67
3/1 (14-14) L 79-88
3/3 (13-16) L 48-64

BIG SKY CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
3/8 vs (13-15) W 64-59
3/11 @ (13-16) L 48-64

If the Hornets continued their sluggish pace after a 3-10 start coach Roy Gallagher would be in an a lot worse place than they are now. This season was by no means fantastic, but they finished above 10 wins and at one point were looking at a winning record. Sultan Toles-Bey could not measure up to the expectations expected from him. Expected to be a leader, the senior just could not pull anything together averaging 6.5 Points perg game and only 4 assists was poor totals. He had a great start to conference play but after suffering an injury to his leg he was not the same. He fell apart as did the Hornets who started out conference play losing only twice, but on the second cycle through would only win twice.

A small run into the tournament was nice but the Weber State squad would conclude a season sweep of the Hornets in a big way holding the Hornets to under 50 points and knocking off the Hornets. The offseason will be big and with two years left on his first contract, Gallagher will need to turn things around if he expects to retain this job.

Re: Small Town, Big Dreams - Roy Gallagher (CHoops 2k8)

I actually just started a closed legacy with Sac State in which I will be simming. Year 1 went 14-18 was disappointed but came away with 4 pretty solid 3* recruits. Year 2 I am 22-11 so far getting ready to sim the Big Sky Championship game against Weber State. A win and I am going to the Dance. I loss and I will be headed to the NIT.

Alpha N'Diaye and the McCarver kid have been beasts down low for me. I put McGlover as my starter PF and avg 17 PPG and 9 RPG a game this year. N'Diaye battled injuries most of the year but still put up a sold 15/7 for me.

Good luck. I don't plan on sticking around Sac State to long in fact if I get a decent job offer after the season I might jump, but looking forward to seeing what you can do with the Hornets.

Re: Small Town, Big Dreams - Roy Gallagher (CHoops 2k8)

I may sub out the pictures for normal text, unless I can find a photobucket or more uniform logo source. Yahoo's are headache inducing.

Thanks for the early support, the whole legacy will not be done half and half. I can't play games without DRE's so it's pretty much simming unless I decide to take pictures later on. Once the team I'm using becomes revelant I'll put more emphasis on the Conference Tournament, OOC games and Conference games, but no point in burning myself out.

this is my first legacy here, but I'm not new to posting them, this is more for enjoyment than flair though. People enjoying it is never a bad thing though, I should knock off another season before I leave for work tonight.
