As the seconds ticked off the clock. As Kobe Bryant chased the ball all the way down infront of the Celtics Bench. As Ron Artest made his way around the front row high-fiving anyone within arm distance the cameras were quick to shine the light on perhaps the greatest coach in the history of the NBA, Phil Jackson. Phil Jackson stood up on the stage during the Larry O'Brien championship presentation and then was asked what was going on out there the first 3 quarters? "We couldn't put the ball in the basket, but then the 4th quarter hit and we were able to get them in foul trouble and continued to be aggressive on the defensive end, but I don't think we are standing here if it wasn't for these great fans." Asked if he was going to retire or return and attempt to win his 4th three-peat, Phil said, "I am going to have a visit with my doctors this coming week and afterwards I will make a decision by next week."

This dynasty is dedicated to the greatest coach in NBA history. One of the coaches that I admire and have studied as I begin my 17th year as a basketball coach. Whether you look at as a challenge or an opportunity, Phil Jackson returned this season to do something no other coach in major sports has ever done. Pat Riley, Greg Popovich, Chuck Daly, Jerry Sloan, Red Auerbach, none of them did nor attempt what Phil is doing. He is going after his 4th three-peat as a coach. Since 1990 when he took over the Chicago Bulls, Phil Jackson has won 11 NBA championships, has coached in 13 NBA Finals all together in 20 years of coaching.

As only Phil Jackson could, he dubbed this season "His Final Stand." Can he lead the Lakers to their 6th championship? Will he be able to overcome the emotions when he goes to an arena for perhaps the last time? Follow Phil Jackson's "Final Stand" right here.

Very quickly want to explain the rosters. They are a custom roster set that I help edit with input from spreadsheets. The were edited after the trading deadline was over so all the major players involved in trades, Anthony, Billups, Wallace, Battier and so on are on their new teams. All D-League and call-ups are in free gency. I have turned off CPU Trading for at least the 2010-11 season. Follow and comment as the roster's I helped edit. Will see you at the end of the road.

The Los Angeles Lakers didn't remain quiet this off season after another championship. There were some areas on the team that they felt needed improvement. Adam Morrison was not brought back. Josh Powell signed with the Atlanta Hawks. D.J. Mbenga signed with the New Orleans Hornets. Jordan Farmar signed with the New Jersey Nets and then was reunited with his backcourt partner Sasha Vujacic when the Lakers traded him to the New Jersey Nets for former number 1 pick back in 1995, Joe Smith. The Lakers signed veteran center Theo Ratliff during the off season, but there were 4 moves that we focused that makes this Laker team according to Dr. Jerry Buss the best squad he has put together in awhile.

Shannon Brown elevates for a jumper in Phoenix.JPG
Shannon Brown opted out his contract only to re-sign with the Lakers. He has an option again for next season to.

Matt Barnes reacts on the road in Philly.JPG
Everyone including Barnes remembers with the rumor broke that he had signed with the Toronto Raptors, but that was news to Toronto. Mitch Kupchak did not sit and wait for the phone to ring. You think that after the confrontation that Barnes had with Kobe last year when Barnes was a member of the Magic that the Lakers would be the last team he signed with. Well that's true, unless the guy you confronted was the 1 player that picked up the phone and called you and said he needs you in L.A. Barnes signed a 2 year deal with a player option for next season.

Steve Blake looks on hands on waist.JPG
The Lakers will never forget who Steve Blake is. Last year started with Portland before being traded down the hall to the Clippers, Steve Blake made a ever lasting impression knotching a triple double against the Lakers in last years final game for the Clippers here.
Blake signed a 4 year $20 milliion deal. A huge upgrade in the backcourt with his signing.

Derek Fisher is befuddled in Dallas.JPG
He was in this situation once before. He could've resigned with the Lakers, but chose to go north to Golden State where we signed a 6 year $36 million dollar deal. After being traded to the Jazz and then asking for his release in order to get the best medical care for his daughter was suffering from cancer, Derek Fisher landed right back on the Lakers doorstep. After winning his fifth ring with his fellow backcourt mate Kobe Bryant, Fisher had an offer to good to refuse, being sought out to sign with the Miami Heat. At the end of the day there was only one person that Fisher didn't want to let down "again" and that was Kobe Bryant. "We came into this league together in 1996. We have won 5 titles together. We have been to the Finals 7 times in 15 years. At the end of the day I just couldn't leave him again." Fisher and Lakers agreed on a 3 year deal worth $9 million and a player option for the 3rd year.

It is these 4 moves the Lakers made this off season that could determine what the picture out in the Western Conference is going to look like. However, the Lakers got much more aggressive defensively and yes they did happen to pick up 2 veteran low post players in the process, Joe Smith and Theo Ratliff, wouldn't have any other veterans take him under their wing.

Breaking News: Lamar Odom breaks wrist in 4th quarter

LOS ANGELES, CA - We have just learned from head athletic trainer Gary Vitti that Lamar Odom did indeed injure his wrist. They are calling it a break right now and the Lakers are now looking at the start of defending their championship without their most versatile player. Early indications is that Odom could be out anywhere from 6-8 weeks. We will have more on this breaking story following the conclusion of the Lakers game.

Re: The Last Stand - Los Angeles Lakers 2K11 Dynasty

lakersgameday.png

Opening night proves to be the first test of many
LOS ANGELES, CA - As the championship banner was raised and the players received their rings for their accomplishments back in June, the Lakers were suddenly forced to face a harsh reality...every team wants to beat them. Not just beat them, but they want to show that the Lakers are not the indestructible force that many have claimed them to be the past three years. They are three years older, they have played more games than any other team in the entire league in the last three years. While playing all the way to June has it's celebration, the recovery time is short and before you know it training camp has started. One can not expect any team, the Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, any team to play at such a high level that is needed to achieve what these players achieve without sacrificing something in return. The Lakers found out last night what that sacrifice is going to be. They have been the top draw in the league the past three years because they don't get hit with the injury bug. Sure, during the course of the marathon that is the NBA season players will get banged up, they will have little nagging injuries that they can will themselves to play through, but then there are injuries that occur that could mean the difference between a three-peat and a second round elimination. Lamar Odom, who has played in all 82 games plus playoff games the past 2 years without injury. That changed when he collided with Rockets forward Terrence Williams early in the 4th quarter and the result was a broken wrist and out at least a minimum 6-8 weeks. Not only did they lose their 6th man, they also lost the game to the Rockets on opening night at STAPLES 110-108. Kobe Bryant, the best player in the league, who has made more than his share of game winning shots, was unable to hit a 17 foot shot from the elbow as it hit the rim and feel off to the left. The Rockets, who did not make the playoffs last year and had traded starting point guard Aaron Brooks and small forward Shane Battier away during the off season got stellar play from Kevin Martin who led them with 33 points and 6 steals and Terrence Williams adding 22 points 7 rebounds 6 assists and 6 steals. The Rockets forced the Lakers into a franchise high 30 turnovers and recorded a franchise high 25 steals. Trailing 59-47 at the half, Kobe Bryant came out aggressive to start the third quarter and tied the game at 71-71 before Houston made a small run to end the quarter and reclaim the lead 83-79. The Lakers, who trailed most of the game, finally got the lead on Andrew Bynum's hook shot in the key to put them up 95-91, but Houston countered with a quick run of their own and retook the lead 97-95. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 33 points but had a team high 7 turnovers. Andrew Bynum returning from off season knee surgury poured in 21 points 8 rebounds and 6 blocks. Now with the injury to Odom, the Lakers have to count on the depth of their bench to be able to sustain what Odom brought every game. The bright side is that this happened the first game of the year and not in March or April. The Lakers will have to bounce back when they travel to Phoenix on Friday in a rematch of last years Western Conference Finals. Just as the Lakers did in the off season, the Suns shuffled their roster trading Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark to the Magic for Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat and trading back up point guard Goran Dragic to the Rockets for Aaron Brooks and the free agent signings of Hakim Warrick and Josh Childress.

Laker postgame notes: This was the first time since the 07-08 season that Lakers did not win on opening night, the last team to beat them just happened to be these same Houston Rockets.
