October 29, 2010 - Phoenix Suns 90, Los Angeles Lakers 84

Suns come roaring back with big fourth quarter sending Lakers to another loss
Bryant scores 30, but gets little help in defeat

PHOENIX, AZ - Opening night didn't turn out the way the Lakers had hoped, but they had high spirits coming into Phoenix, a place where they have played fairly well the past three seasons including the playoffs. The last time the Lakers were here they were riding Kobe Bryant's fourth quarter performance on their way to the NBA Finals, eliminating the Suns in the Western Conference Finals. On this night however it would be the Suns with the fourth quarter performance and the ones celebrating at the final buzzer with a come from behind 90-84 victory over the Lakers.

The Lakers and Suns had a back and forth first half, both teams countering eachother, but the Lakers went into halftime up 47-43. The third quarter was more of the same back and forth style, but then came the fourth quarter.

The Suns held the Lakers scoreless the first four minutes of the fourth quarter and by doing so captured the lead and the Lakers could do little to put together a comeback. The Lakers didn't get much from their bench, while the Suns got some added offensive production from theirs outscoring the Lakers 36-26 in that area.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with a game high 30 points. He grabbed 9 rebounds as well and went a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line before fouling out with under a minute to go in the game. Pau Gasol was the only other Laker player to reach double figures with 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Ron Artest pulled down a season high 15 rebounds in the game along with 8 points.

Vince Carter put up 21 points to lead the Suns in the game. Grant Hill finished with 15 points and Hakim Warrick (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Marcin Gortat (12 points, 11 rebounds) both finished with double doubles. Channing Frye grabbed 12 rebounds off the bench for the Suns while Robin Lopez put in 10 points leading the Suns scoring off the bench. All five starters for the Suns reached double figures in the game.

Bryant unable to play hero role at the end, Warriors hand Lakers third straight loss
Bryant misses last second jump shot as, Lakers fall to 0-3

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Lakers are off their worst start in over 15 years following a 79-78 loss to the Golden State Warriors running their record to 0-3 to start the season. It wasn't the high powered offensive game that many would've expected from either team. Golden State coming into the game with one of the highest scoring offenses over the past few years and the Lakers who with their roster could seemingly put up big numbers on any given night.

Both teams had their issues as did they superstars throughout the course of the game. The Warriors backcourt duo of Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry were a combined 7-33 from the field for the game while the Lakers had only one player score in double figures. It could've been worse, but in the end the Lakers had the ball, the last shot of the game with a chance to win, but Kobe Bryants baseline jumper was long the Warriors escaped with a rare win at STAPLES Center.

David Lee led the Warriors with 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Charlie Bell had a big night off the bench for the Warriors putting in 13 points while Monta Ellis and Dorell Wright each had 12 points apiece.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers for the third straight game with 27 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the game. No other Laker player reached double figures. Shannon Brown put in 9 points off the bench for the Lakers while a group of Lakers including Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol all had 8 points each in the game.

Lakers get first win of the season behind point guards hot shooting night
Fisher puts up 27 points in victory over the Grizzlies

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Lakers were looking for anything that would help them get their first victory of the season. Didn't matter how they got it or where it came from, they were in desperate need of a breakout game from someone other than Kobe Bryant. Answering the bell was Bryant's backcourt mate, point guard Derek Fisher. Fisher put on one of the best shooting displays in recent memory and with a barrage of three pointers dropping down from the left hand shooting of Fisher, the Lakers captured their first win of the season with a 99-91 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. It was different game plan then the ones in the previous three games, especially when Kobe Bryant picked up his second foul just four minutes into the game and was forced to sit the rest of the quarter, but it didn't stop there. Bryant was in foul trouble throughout the game recording only 21 minutes of playing time on the court.

The Grizzlies were completely caught offguard from the opening tip as the Lakers offense was clicking for the first time this season. Everything seemed to be going in while the Grizzlies struggled shooting from the field, they did however show some very natural toughness powering their way to the basket and creating fouls, getting to the foul line early and often. It still wasn't enough to combat the Lakers hot shooting from the field as the Lakers put up a season high 37 points in the first quarter on their way to a 37-19 lead.

The Grizzlies matched the Lakers even in the second quarter, but started to surge in the second half, including cutting the Lakers lead to single digits and at one point down to six points before Derek Fisher reloaded and started firing from the perimeter.

Rudy Gay put in a team high 25 points to lead the Grizzlies as well as pulling down 8 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Zach Randolph finished the game with a double double putting down 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Grizzlies as a team had their trouble from behind the three point line, hitting only 1-11 for the game while the Lakers finished a very impressive 11-18. The Grizzlies got 9 points from O.J. Mayo off the bench in 15 minutes of play.

The leading scorer in the league coming into the game, Kobe Bryant was able to reach double figures, although just barely, putting in a season low 11 points in the game having his shooting woes going 3-14 from the field. But it was Derek Fisher to the rescue with a game high 27 points, hitting 10-13 shots from the field and going 7-8 from behind the three point line. Fisher did start out hitting his first six three point shots in the game, including hitting three straight at one point. Pau Gasol recorded a double double of his own against his former team, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Bynum outplayed Gasol's younger brother Marc finishing with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the game. With Bryant in foul trouble, Shannon Brown saw a huge increase in minutes playing 27 for the game and chipping in 12 points off the bench for the Lakers.

Lakers win second straight game led by backcourt mates Bryant and Fisher
Fisher puts up 20 points in Lakers first road victory of the season

SACRAMENTO, CA - There isn't much now these days for the Sacramento Kings normal fan to be happy about. The Kings who were a dominating force in the Western Conference early in the decade have fallen down to the bottom with very little hope on the horizon. With the Lakers coming into town however, ARCO Arena, sounded just like it did back during the playoff battles between both teams from 2000-2002. Cowbells ringing all over the place, Phil Jackson wearing ear plugs and Derek Fisher continuing his offense onslaught on another opponent. The Lakers used a 47-26 run during the second and third quarters to take firm control of the game as they went on to a 91-81 victory, their first on the road this season.

Although they were out rebounded 52-45, the Lakers counted on the outside shooting tonight, hitting 9-20 from behind the three point line and going an impressive 20-23 from the free throw line as a team. The Kings were just as on point from the free throw line hitting 17-21 for the game, but was unable to find the stroke from behind the three point line finishing up a very bleak 2-12.

For the second straight game the Lakers were led by Derek Fisher who put in 20 points including 4-8 shots from behind the three point line, making Fisher in the last two games from the three point line 11-16. Kobe Bryant failed to reach 20 points for the second straight game, finishing with 18 points including 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Lamar Odom provided 11 points off the bench for the Lakers. Both Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum each scored 9 points apiece with Bynum pulling down a game high 17 rebounds.

Kings rookie power forward DeMarcus Cousins scored a team high 18 points while grabbing 13 rebounds to record a double double in the early season. Francisco Garcia added 14 points along with 6 rebounds while Marcus Thornton put up 13 points off the bench. Last year's rookie of the year, Tyreke Evans was held to 9 points throughout the game and his backcourt mate Beno Udrih could only put down 4 points.

Re: The Association | NBA 2K11 Franchise Mode - L.A. Lakers

Question: Why are you forcing it so much with Kobe (Which is obvious from the stat line)? If you're dead set on getting him points get him a couple of easy baskets utilizing the pick and roll with Gasol. Once you pass Gasol the ball Kobe should be isolated on one side of the court and you can get him in the post against an inferior defender, especially when up against Kobe's post game(as the typical SG has abysmal post defense).

Edit: The good thing I'm seeing is that you're not shooting any 3's with him. That's simply not his game anymore. Also, try to get Gasol involved more. A few easy buckets and he'll be draining mid-range jumpers all day. He can become just as annoying as KG when his jumper is falling.
