Lakers rebound from loss to Nuggets, put Pistons away in fourth quarter
LOS ANGELES, CA - Continuing their home stand the Lakers looked to rebound from the loss they suffered at the hands of the Denver Nuggets Friday night and they found the answer in their next opponent, the Detroit Pistons. Although it wasn't an easy task, the Pistons did put up a great fight including taking the lead into the fourth quarter, but the Lakers jumped on the back of their leader Kobe Bryant and rode him to the final buzzer and took a 101-93 victory. Kobe led all scorers with a game high 31 points, including 4 rebounds and 8 assists while hitting 16-17 from the free throw line. Pau Gasol added 20 points and 11 rebounds for another double double in this early season. The Lakers led 48-44 at halftime, but the Pistons were able to take a 71-70 lead going into the fourth quarter outscoring the Lakers 27-22 in the third, but the Lakers defense buckled down and their offense heated up putting up 31 points in the fourth and final quarter. Richard Hamilton led the Pistons with 17 points , hitting 7-10 shots from the field and Tayshaun Prince added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. The Lakers have won two of the first three on this home stand will play host to the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, and then setting up a matchup that could be an NBA Finals preview of sorts when they take on the New York Knicks on Thursday.

Lakers offense returns against Wizards, use second half to widen margin for win
LOS ANGELES, CA - Nearly two weeks completed in the early season and the Lakers have established their dominance when it comes to teams that can't matchup with them physically or athletically even when their opponents have some pretty athletic players like the Wizards have in Javale McGee, Andray Blatche, Nick Young and John Wall, but the Lakers took command in the second half led by Kobe Bryant who finished with 31 points and 9 assists leading the Lakers to a 107-82 victory over the Washington Wizards. Andrew Bynum recorded his first double double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds and Pau Gasol added 20 points and 7 rebounds. Rookie of the Year John Wall led the Wizards with 24 points and 5 assists and Nick Young added 17 points and 4 rebounds, but the Wizards could only put up 35 points in the second half not even close to the 55 that the Lakers put up which stretched a 52-47 halftime lead to a blowout win. The Lakers have now won three of their first four games on this home stand and will wrap it up on Thursday in a high profile contest against the New York Knicks.

The Lakers finish up this home stand with a great matchup that pits the two best teams (record wise) in the NBA to this point. The Lakers (7-2) against the Knicks (7-1). The Lakers are coming off two straight wins over the Pistons and Wizards while the Knicks suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday night against Carmelo Anthony's former team, the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers won both meetings last season.

In a possible NBA Finals preview, Lakers make short work of Carmelo and Knicks
LOS ANGELES, CA - The final game of their five game home stand was saved with their most worthiest opponent, the New York Knicks. The Knicks started out by winning their first seven games to begin the season, but came into the game following a loss to the Denver Nuggets. It was obviously the first big test of the season for the Lakers with an opponent from the Eastern Conference and from the opening tip the league's leading scorer, Kobe Bryant was focused and could not to be sidetracked from what he wanted to do on the court. Bryant finished leading the Lakers with 26 points and 5 rebounds hitting 11-21 shots from the field and Pau Gasol added 20 points, 6 rebounds en route to the Lakers taking a convincing 108-95 victory sending the Knicks to their second straight loss. Carmelo Anthony put in 19 points to lead the Knicks hitting 8-12 shots from the field and Amar'e Stoudemire finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but the Knicks were unable to keep up with the Lakers first half offensive onslaught. The Lakers put up 35 points in the first quarter and 31 in the second quarter giving them a 66-53 lead at halftime. Shannon Brown added a season high 18 points off the bench and Matt Barnes added 10. The Lakers will now enjoy a nice four day break before heading back on the road for a back-to-back road trip against the Grizzlies and Thunder.
