Starters Scouting Report

Mitch Rolls - A serviceable point guard that can make basic passes, but tries to make the tough passes that he cannot and consequently turns the ball over a lot. Also loses possession when attempting some crossover moves. 3rd scoring option with his efficient 3-pt shooting and ability to draw fouls.

Mike Venetia - Seems to hit 3's in big moments, but struggles with his consistency. Hasn't been a reliable scoring threat so far, but I expect this senior to pick up both his play and his 3pt percentage by taking better shots.

Pat Moore - Was expected to be a 1st or 2nd scoring option in his 2nd year at Colgate, though through two games he has struggled mightily. He may even be placed on the pine. He can't buy a bucket and all but 2 of his points in the early season goings are coming from the line.

Yaw Gyawu - If he had about three more inches and a better pair of hands, he would be a truly dominant player. Great in the pick and roll game and attacking the boards for second chance opportunities. He also has a decent mid-range jumper that he utilizes well. So far he is leading the Raiders in points, rebounds and assists.

Nick Pascale - Good size and rebounding skills. He gets most of his points off the offensive glass, which is exactly what he's here to do. Solid prescence in the middle alongside Brandenburg and Bogdanovic.

I'm happy that we managed to leave Buffalo with a win. I had my doubts to start off the game, as Yaw went out very early due to foul trouble. He was in foul trouble the entire game, but still managed to put 10 points up in 9 minutes. With Yaw absent, Nick Pascale stepped up big time. With Yaw out, he played 4 next to either Brandenburg or Bogdanovic, and he really locked down on Josiah Heath. His double-double really led the way to victory for our team. Pat had another bucket-less night going 0-7, and as a result he will be benched for the upcoming tournament game with Texas State. He's missing wide-open layups out there. His confidence must really be low right now. I haven't yet decided who will take his place, but Luke Roh and Chad Johnson come to mind first. I'm happy with Mitch and Mike's production, but I'd like to see Mike take a few more shots. With the exception of Pat, I am very pleased with the team's performance today. Especially on defense, where the squad only allowed a .333 FG%. Hopefully this gives the guys some momentum going into the 100 Club Classic.

Note: Increasing half-length from 15 to 18 minutes.

Year One 100 Club Classic

Tournament Preview: 100 Club Classic

Jacksonville State
Fresh off a huge upset road win over Georgia, Jacksonville is on fire coming into this tournament. Projected to lose both the 1st round game and the consolation game, they definitely have something to prove. The reality is that they are undersized in this tournament, and are facing a Kennesaw State team that has more talent on it's roster. The Gamecocks will need big performances out of Sophomore PG Brian Williams and Senior PF Stephen Hall to prove the projection wrong.

Kennesaw State
Currently 0-2, the Owls can't have a ton of confidence coming into this tournament. Sloppy play has got them off to a slow start so far. Team leader and Senior PG Spencer Dixon will need to score more than 13 points a game for his team to come out of the 100 Club Classic a winner. They are matched up with Jacksonville State in the first round, who just beat a vastly more talented Georgia team. They will have to play their great brand of defense and improve their free-throw shooting, which right now is .563%.

Texas State
The favorites coming into the 100 Club Classic this year. Led by Junior PF Cameron Johnson, the Bobcats are looking to start their season off with two tournament victories. They make up for their lack of size with speed and athleticism, and they are coming in with fresh legs having not played a game so far. Texas State should not have too much trouble getting through this tournament unscathed. They are matched up with a weak Colgate team in the first round, who are averaging a measly 54.7 PPG through three games.

Re: Year One 100 Club Classic

Funny how the teams change from season to season. I know when I used Colgate last year, Chad Johnson and Brandon James were the better players on the team. Granted, I'm pretty sure my roster ratings weren't right but still. Good luck in the 100 Club Classic

Re: Coach Carbaugh: A College Hoops Legacy

Yeah these rosters are not 100% but for the most part they are accurate enough.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...olgate-raiders

The main things wrong on Colgate is that Sterling Melville and John Brandenburg are rated too low. McMullen, Gyawu, Bogdanovic, CJ and Luke Roh probably a bit too high. But meh.

& Thank you I just really unexpectedly blew out Texas State

Wow. I am very impressed with how the team handled it's first tournament game. This game was not as close as the scores indicates, as I instructed the team to not run up the score. Their final run in garbage time made the score a little more respectable. There were three keys to this game. Our defense, which played outstandingly yet again. The rebounding difference of 37-23. And lastly, bench points. Our bench outscored their bench 32-7 led by Pat Moore and Chad Johnson. With something to prove, it looked like Pat really stepped up his game in a major way. Yaw and Nick are starting to become a dynamic duo at the 4 and 5. It feels good to upset the tournament favorites, but there's still a lot of work to be done. We play Jacksonville State next, who defeated tournament host Kennesaw State 70-62. They are looking really good to start the year, and we will have to be at our best.

Jacksonville State came into the game shooting very hot. We found ourselves down very early in the game. Then Mike hit a three. Then Mitch hit a three. And then Luke. And all of a sudden we were right back in it. Within the next fives minutes, we had taken complete control of the game. Our crowd was roaring. The Gamecocks couldn't handle our smothering man to man defense. They weren't getting any open looks. Our guys were so fired up they wouldn't allow an inch. The basketball gods blessed the Raiders' shooting hands for this game, as our offense simply wouldn't quit. Wouldn't quit until I told them to, that is. I'm really proud to win the 100 Club Classic in such a dominating fashion. It's a great sign that the guys really elevated their play come tournament time. Or maybe it's just that the team is finally coming together. It certainly feels that way, and I hope it continues on into conference play. For now, we will celebrate and prepare for our upcoming game with Marist.
