Phoenix, AZ--The Los Angeles Lakers started the game on a 10-2 run and never looked back, beating the Phoenix Suns 75-69 on a bad night for Kevin Martin and Kevin Durant. Durant was in early foul trouble, picking up three fouls in the first quarter guarding LeBron James, and was forced to sit the bench most of the first half, with the Suns certainly suffering from the loss of their star player. Martin shot only 4-10 from the field, missing a crucial game-tying three with 20 seconds left in the game. The Suns bench also played poorly minus Tobias Harris, who had 6 points in only 5 minutes of play time. The rest of the bench matched Harris' 6 points, a complete turn around from the first game where the bench scored 21. Dirk Nowitzki was unstoppable throughout most of the game, finishing 8-14 for 19 points, and led the Lakers on an off-night from LeBron James, who shot 5-19 for only 13 points. Josh Smith was efficient in the losing effort, shooting 6-8 for 16 points and missing the double-double by only one rebound. One interesting note was the free throw disparity, with the Lakers shooting 13 more than the Suns. Alvin Gentry highlighted this in the post game press conference. "We attacked the basket and didn't get the calls...it was just their night."
