College Hoops 2k8: Josh Allen Coaching Legacy

April 12, 2033

This just in to the ESPN Newsroom. Big news out of College Basketball as Gonzaga has fired legendary but controversial Head Coach, Josh Allen citing a pattern of abusive, defiant behavior by the Zags Head Coach of 21 seasons.

Two weeks ago, Allen was involved in an altercation with a Lubbock reporter following Gonzaga's 2nd round loss in the NCAA Tournament to Texas Tech in which the volatile coach had to be restrained following questions from the reporter about decisions made by Allen in the 2nd half of the loss.

Allen, who is 23 wins away from 600 for his career won 491 games at Gonzaga, including 2 Final Four appearances and the schools only National Championship in 2024. Gonzaga reached the NCAA tournament in all but 2 of Allen's 21 season at Gonzaga.

Prior to his storied tenure at Gonzaga, Allen spent 5 seasons at VMI, with 3 NCAA tournament appearances while there.

Allen is widely loved in the Spokane community and has been a favorite since his arrival in 2012 when he was hired to turn around the program that fell apart after the departure of Mark Few as coach. Allen was able to match and surpass Few's success, even having the court named after him and has had a revolving contract, virtually a lifetime contract with the school.

We will have more on this story as it develops.

April 15, 2033
Unrest continues in Spokane as students and fans have been out in full force, protesting the firing of iconic, former Gonzaga Men's Baskeball Coach, Josh Allen. Police have arrested several protesters during the protests that have occurred most of the past three days.

Coach Allen who has been in seclusion and silent since being fired three days has issued a statement in the wake of the protests:

I want to say a special thank you to all of the fans who have supported our program the last 20 plus years. You all made Spokane feel like home for this small town kid from Indiana. You supported me and our teams no matter what, and I hope in return that you we put out teams you could be very proud of.

I will speak more about my departure from Gonzaga soon, but in the mean time, the rioting and chaos occuring on campus must stop. This is not how this town or university should be represented. We are better than that.

I look forward to speaking to all of you very soon about my future plans.

Josh Allen

Re: College Hoops 2k8: Josh Allen Coaching Legacy

Joshua Allen Born March 22, 1982 in Terre Haute, Indiana, is an American Basketball coach, best known for his years as Head Coach at the University of Gonzaga.

Early Life
Allen spent most of his days as a youth involved in baseball and basketball. He excelled at both. His lack of interest in school as a youth resulted in Allen frequently being suspended from school either for horseplay, fighting or back talking his teachers.

At the age of 14, Allen's father died, leaving a young Allen to grow up without a dad. Allen's grandparents played a huge role in his upbringing as he credits them often when asked about his success.

Allen would star at Terre Haute South Vigo as a basketball and baseball player. He was heavily recruited and had committed to play basketball for Texas Tech and Bob Knight, an idol of Allen growing up. However, a knee injury in his senior year in the Semi-State would end his playing career and the chance to play for his idol.

Texas Tech
Despite being unable to play for Coach Knight, Knight instead allowed Gilbert to serve as team manager, putting him in charge of several tasks serving the basketball program while also attending as a student. Allen took full advantage of his opportunity, learning more about the game of basketball watching Coach Knight conduct his practices and participating in light scrimmages from time to time. Upon graduating at Texas Tech, Allen served as an Assistant Coach on Knight's staff for two seasons.

VMI
On a strong recommendation from Coach Knight, at the age of 24 Allen was hired as the Head Coach at VMI, a nearly non existent program at the time. Immediately, Allen and his style made an impact on the program as the team would make the NCAA Tournament in 3 of his 5 seasons and made the NIT in another. Allen's teams won 94 games in his 5 seasons at VMI.

Gonzaga
In May of 2012, Allen accepted the Head Coaching job at Gonzaga. The Gonzaga program was struggling, three years removed from Mark Few leaving the program. Picked near the bottom of the West Coast Conference standings, Allen's team shocked the nation, going 26-10 and making it into the Elite 8.

The following year, the team would make it to the Sweet 16 and Gonzaga fans knew they had someone special in charge of their basketball program.

Allen's teams would be selected or qualify for the NCAA Tournament in each of his first 14 season at Gonzaga, winning a National Championship in 2023-24.

Programs all around the country were trying to sway Allen to come to coach at bigger, more elite programs but Allen had fallen in love with Spokane, the fans and the school. Allen was given a lifetime contract with Gonzaga and had the court named after him.

Allen was well respect for his knowledge, ability to teach and his dedication to academics for his athletes as his teams were always among the top GPA and graduation rates in Division 1 Basketball.

Firing
Despite Allen's success and support from the fans, faculty at Gonzaga were concerned through the years that Allen was becoming bigger than the university. Numerous incidents involving Allen and his behavior and outspokenness but the school rarely asked Allen to quiet down or refrain from anything that might upset his detractors.

2032, Gonzaga hired a new President. His first order of business seemed to be to show people that he was in charge of the school, not Coach Allen. Many believe he was looking for any reason possible to get rid of Allen as Head Coach.

Following a Second Round loss to Texas Tech in the NCAA Tournament in 2033, Allen and Lubbock reporter had a test exchange. Allen went off on an angry tirade to a question regarding Allen's preparation for the game and Allen had to be restrained by security as he tried to get a hold of the reporter. This incident is believed to be the basis for Allen being fired as Head Coach on April 12, 2033.

Achievements
-Career Record 578-268
-7 regular season championships
-17 conference tournament championships
-22 NCAA Tournament appearances
-7 Sweet 16 appearances
-2 Final Fours
-1 National Championship
-19 Twenty win seasons
-11 Conference Coach of the Year
- 9 NBA draftees

Controversial Moments in Coach Allen's Career

2013- Made controversial remarks prior to a game telling Gonzaga fans prior to a game at Notre Dame to keep a close eye on their small sons calling the Catholic Church a safe haven for pedophiles. Despite pressure from school officials, Allen refused to apologize and offered to resign if Gonzaga felt he had disgraced the school

2016-Yelled at a heckler at Santa Clara to "sit your fat *** down before he came up there and sit it down for you"

2018-Was suspended 1 game for an altercation with an official during a game vs. St. Mary's. Allen had to be restrained after bumping the official and the official was escorted off the court when Gonzaga fans began throwing objects at the referee. Allen admonished the crowd for their actions and ordered them not to throw things.

2023-Allen was suspended for 3 games for grabbing an opposing St Mary's player by the jersey for a flagrant elbow thrown at a Gonzaga player.

2026-Former AD confirmed a previously released story that Coach Allen had assaulted him weeks before winning the 2024 National Championship for suggesting that Coach Allen should take it easier on his players in practice following a complaint from a player that Allen was pushing the team too hard. Allen allegedly punched the AD, which the AD covered up until his departure in 2026. Allen has never commented on the incident.

2030-Was detained briefly by local police after Allen injured a Spokane man who Allen witnessed assault and injure a homeless man. The assailant suffered several facial fractures as a result of Allen. Allen was not arrested and also paid for the medical bills of the homeless man that the assailant injured.

2031-Fined on 3 separate occasions for refusing to attend post game news conferences instead sending the teams equipment manager to sit in for him on 1 occasion.

Re: College Hoops 2k8: Josh Allen Coaching Legacy

April 24, 2033

ESPN has learned that a press conference is scheduled for 6pm est in Bloomington where Indiana University will announce the hiring of Josh Allen as their new head coach.

The Hoosiers program has not been to the NCAA Tournament in seven seasons and the team recently fired Head Coach Mark Fox. The program really never has been the same since the firing of Bob Knight over 30 years ago.

The Indiana University Brass like Allen's ties to Knight and believe he will bring the Hoosiers back to the prominence they were at in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Re: College Hoops 2k8: Josh Allen Coaching Legacy

Coach Josh Allen has just been introduced as the new Head Coach at Indiana. He is stepping to the podium now.

It feels good to be home again in Indiana. It is good to see so many close friends here today that I have known all of my life. This was always my dream job and the fact that this job became available after what has occurred with me recently is really amazing. It is good to feel wanted again. I had many offers to go elsewhere but I could not turn down a chance to come home to a school I grew up on.

Indiana Basketball will be relevant again very soon! We will win and we will win doing it the right way and we are going to do our best to ensure that this states top talent don't all leave to play elsewhere.

I cannot wait to get started! I want to thank you all again.
