Coaching Legacy of Wes Abercrombie (CH2k8)

New York(NY) - The Binghamton Bearcats have hired a relative unknown to coach their men's basketball program.

Wes Abercrombie, 25, was hired Sunday to take over the Bearcats program. Abercrombie, a graduate of Butler University and a Wisconsin native, looks to kick start a program that is looking to elevate itself to new heights.

After its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008-09, Binghamton hasn't been back to the Big Dance.

"I look forward to the challenge. Despite being a native on the Midwest, I really look forward to bringing a culture of toughness and hard work to this Northeast university."

Abercrombie will begin work immediately as the season is just days away.

"I have to assemble a staff in the next few days and then hit the gym. We also need to start evaluating players on the recruiting trail. You can coach all you want, but you need the right types of players to be able to be successful. Our secondary break and tough defensive style really puts stress on the players, so we need to have a team full of players that can contribute on every night."

Binghamton starts the season next Friday on the road at St. Bonaventure

I was going to start a dynasty with Butler, but it just doesn't feel right not working my way up. So I am back to the career dynasty.

Looking for recruits to create. Will take the first ones posted up to 5 for the first season.

Abercrombie Hires Two Assistants

New York(NY) - Newly announced Coach Wes Abercrombie has named two assistant coaches for his first season at Binghamton.

J.S. Doornekamp, 36, joins the coaching staff with little college coaching experience at the D1 level. Garrison played his college basketball at St. Johns and should provide the Vikings with a recruiting connection to the Northeast.

Doornekamp is a native of the Northeast. He grew up just outside of New York City and currently has a wife and a two year old little girl.

"I'm really excited to have Konimba on the staff. He brings an excitement that the team is really going to like. He has so much energy and he will really light up the recruiting trail for us."

Jerry Kohn, 30, will provide the coaching staff with a lot of energy. Hammond has made his rounds around the basketball landscape. Kohn graduated from Illinois-Chicago and has coached on the AAU circuit after short stint in the NBDL.

"Coach Kohn is someone that hasn't been around for a while, but he still has energy and can give a different perspective to our staff."

Abercrombie now heads off to the recruiting circuit to track down the talent that he talked about in his opening press conference.
