Tremendous Upside - A Utah Jazz Association

This is my first Dynasty, so give me some time to adjust.

I am using SiM WoRld Roster (slightly edited, with all recent trades plugged in, and some edits to the undrafted rookies, as well as several CAP's, though I still need to make Jeff Foote.)

I will play a game a week, and simulate the other games.
All-Star
12 Min. Quarters

I hope you enjoy!

JAZZ: LOOKING TO REBUILD

Enes Kanter and Alec Burks, with their first press conference as official Utah Jazz players.

It was a crazy year for the Jazz last year. With Jerry Sloan, admired coach of 23 years first retiring. Jazz then made a blockbuster trade at the deadline to ship Deron Williams to New Jersey. Williams did not make it clear if he wanted a contract extension or not, and Utah did not want to deal with the drama that Cleveland and Denver were dealing with.

The Jazz have a very young team, with Sophomores Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, and Jeremy Evans. They also add in rookies Enes Kanter and Alec Burks.

At their first press conference with the Jazz, Enes Kanter and Alec Burks were questioned on the Jazz's potential. Enes Kanter stated that "The future is so bright." Alec Burks, as if rehearsed, immediately agreed, saying "The future's so bright for us."

It is also rumored that Ante Tomic, the 44th pick of
the 2008 draft, will be heading to the Jazz this offseason as well.

With the Jazz's young talent, they may be in a rebuilding mode right now, but as two rookies have acknowledged, their future sure is bright.

ANTE TOMIC, HEADING TO THE JAZZ

Ante Tomic getting questioned about finally going to play in the NBA.

The Utah Jazz will have to fit another big man in the already packed front court. Ante Tomic plans to head to the Jazz for the season.

"We're excited for him" coach Tyrone Corbin said. "He can learn and be a great part to our team."

Ante Tomic was drafted by Utah, after Utah acquired the rights to Philadelphia's 2008 2nd round draft pick back in 2005. Ante Tomic will be the tallest player of the Utah Jazz, and a legitimate center, at 7 foot 2, he will tower over Utah's other big men.

Ante Tomic played for the Real Madrid in the Spanish ACB League, while he played there he was compared to another spanish big man. A certain big man named Pau Gasol.

Ante Tomic had this to say. "Pau Gasol is great, I don't like being compared to him, I'm still learning. One day, I hope to be as good as him."

With a backcourt consisting of Al Jefferson, Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, Paul Millsap, Jeremy Evans, and Ante Tomic, Tyrone Corbin certainly has his job cut out for him with rotations.

"It's certainly going to be difficult" Corbin said, "I'll give minutes to those who deserve to play though, simple as that."

While Paul Millsap can occasionally play the 3, and Jeremy Evans could probably be moved to the small forward position, a lot of rotations might be creative for the Utah Team.

With Ante Tomic coming to Utah, the team is getting younger and younger.

JOSH HOWARD AND JAMAL TINSLEY LOOK FOR NEW START

Josh Howard played for the Wizards last year, while Jamal Tinsley didn't play at all.

The Utah Jazz have decided to take a risk with Josh Howard and Jamal Tinsley this year. Josh Howard used to be an all-star, but after a torn ACL, he is still trying to recover.

"Yeah, it sucks man." Howard stated, "but what happens, happens." Howard was also talking to San Antonio and Washington, but he said that after personal prayer, he thought Utah was where he should go.

Jamal Tinsley didn't play last year, but previously was a point guard for the Indiana Pacers. Tinsley wasn't really sought out by anyone in the offseason, and after proving himself in the preseason games against the two other point guards competing for a spot on the roster, he was signed.

Tinsley was signed for a non-guaranteed contract. After asking Tinsley about how it felt to be back in the NBA, he said, "I am just glad to be back, this is my life."

Both Jamal Tinsley and Josh Howard have had problems with drugs in the past, and I asked Tyrone Corbin what he thought of those problems.
"We signed both these guys to one year deals," Corbin stated, "It's low-risk, and yet, the rewards could be phenomenal."

The Utah Jazz are hoping that Howard and Tinsley can both give the young Jazz experience, and help the Jazz at practice and in the locker room. Only time will tell with this team.

OTHYUS JEFFERS BACK IN UTAH

Othyus Jeffers played for the Eneragy, the Jazz, the Spurs, and the Wizards

Othyus Jeffers is coming back to Utah. After a strong showing two years ago from a d-league call up, Jeffers was signed for the rest of the season with the Jazz.

When Jeffers didn't make it past the preseason games in the Jazz uniform, he was back with the Energy. Washington later called him up and he impressed with Washington, and was signed for a full year.

Othyus Jeffers tore his ACL in the offseason, and while he is injured now, the 6 foot 5, 210 pound SG/SF was signed by the Jazz before Washington could sign him again.

Greg Miller stated on his injury, "He may be injured for now, and he is projected to stay injured until around January, Jeffers has shown that he has a lot of potential, and we signed him to a cheap small 1 year deal. We are hoping he can recover and play as good as ever."

Othyus Jeffers is certainly happy to be back in Utah, although it is quite different from the last time he was here.

Re: Tremendous Upside - A Utah Jazz Association

COREY BREWER HEADS TO UTAH

Corey Brewer has become the odd man out in Denver, with Wilson Chandler being resigned to a multiple-year contract.

The Jazz made one last move to end the offseason.

Raja Bell and a future second round pick to obtain Corey Brewer.

This deal may seem smaller, and less significant, but it gets the Jazz another young player, who is full of athleticism.

Denver threw around this deal in the offseason, and with Gordon Hayward showing that this may be his breakout season in the NBA, and Alec Burks needing minutes so he can develop, Raja Bell was just extra baggage for the Jazz.

Tyrone Corbin and Bell have had arguments concerning Bell's role on the team in the past, and it now seems to be certain that Gordon Hayward is going to be starting for the Jazz.

Corey Brewer was signed to be an athletic presence and create a mismatch at the SF/SG spot, but Wilson Chandler has agreed to a long contract extension, which leaves Brewer much lower on the rotation.

The Jazz, seeing Brewer being underutilized, started talking with Denver about how they could acquire him, and Denver requested the veteran leadership of Raja Bell.

All I can say is this seems like a great deal for both sides.

Re: Tremendous Upside - A Utah Jazz Association

JAZZ START OUT SLOW, GET DESTROYED ON HOME COURT

Gordon Hayward's first game in the starting lineup this season didn't turn out that great.

The Jazz start out the season 0-1 with a heavy loss against the Rockets. The Jazz dug themselves into a hole in the first quarter when the Rockets were ahead 27-12.

"If we would have started out better, we would have had a better chance instead of digging ourselves into a hole." Al Jefferson said, "We made a smaller run in the second quarter, but we were still behind."

Al Jefferson was one of only a few players who had a great game for the Jazz. C.J. Miles had 13 points in 13 minutes, and Millsap was a statsheet stuffer.

Chandler Parsons and Luis Scola killed the Jazz, with both getting a lot of rebounds for the Rockets. The Rockets start out their season with a 1-0 record.

Jazz do have a chance to get revenge, after a game against Memphis, they come back to play Houston at Houston.

With Memphis coming to Utah, hopefully the Jazz won't dig themselves into a hole with a bad start to the season.
