2011-2012 76ers: Season In Review
By Jaggo Smorts
The 76ers season has come to a close. The team finished 35-31 in the regular season and put together a decent playoff run, taking down the Bulls in six games and dragging the Celtics through a dog-fight series all the way up to a Game 7. Not bad for a team that's rebuilding. Philadelphia was off and running on squads the second this shortened NBA campaign took off. They jumped out to a 20-9 mark, at one point had a scoring margin over +15, which was mind-boggling, and played suffocating defense all year (89.4 points allowed per game), even through the most frustrating offensive stretches.
So all in all, there’s questions up and down the roster. And at head coach as well. A rumor that’s been gaining steam around Philly questions the return of Doug Collins next season, and it’s neither been confirmed nor denied. I hope he does—he’s the first Sixers coach I truly want at the helm since Larry Brown, and he’s just a Philly guy through and through.
The future is ill-defined and full of concerns. But as for this past season, the Sixers showed how far a scrappy team can get on toughness, defense and depth. Hopefully, it was a season to build on, instead of merely a fun memory.

Lakers land Howard in Mega-Deal
By Jaggo Smorts
In a move that almost everyone could have seen coming, but no one really expected at this point, Dwight Howard has been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. With all the talk in recent weeks, many speculated that the trade would be large, but no one truly thought it would involve this many players.
The Lakers got their man, and they now have the Big 3 (4?) that they have been clamoring about for some time now. Howard immediately makes their post presence twice as difficult to defend as it was last year. Not to mention that him and Gasol paired together make one of the most formidable 4-5 combinations in the history of the NBA.
The Magic, the team forced to endure the entirety of the Howard's antics, actually brought in quite a haul with the trade. On top of making their cap situation much more flexible, they now have two extra first round draft picks. To go along with that, they received some decent young players such as Omar Casspi and Christian Eyenga. The total haul was: F Christian Eyenga, F Omar Casspi, F Josh Mcroberts, G Daniel Gibson, F Anderson Varajeo, 1st Rd Pick (LAL) & 1st Rd Pick (CLE).
Meanwhile in all of this, the Cleveland Cavaliers snuck in and pulled Andrew Bynum away from Los Angeles. There's no guarantee that he signs after his contract expires after the season (and he probably won't), but their roster for the upcoming season certainly seems much more competitive than it did a day ago. The Cavs also reeled in Jason Richardson and Hedo from ORL.

Collins' Starting Lineup Puzzling
By Jaggo Smorts
One week ago, it would have been puzzling to imagine a scenario in which Spencer Hawes would not be the Philadelphia 76ers' starting center.
However, since the controversial signing of center Kwame Brown, Sixers' head coach Doug Collins appears to have a few changes in mind. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Collins plans on moving Hawes to power forward, instantly plugging in Brown as his starting center. With this new starting five, Collins is clearly looking for the Sixers to get bigger, stronger and more physical, but at what cost?
With Brown in the starting lineup, it appears as if the Sixers will sacrifice a good deal of offensive production for some (hopefully) stout defensive play. Brown, now 30 years old, is widely considered an offensive liability. While he shoots just under 50 percent from the field for his career, he only averages 5.2 attempts per game. In addition, Brown's woes from the free-throw line are well documented. The former No. 1 overall pick struggles with consistency at the line, shooting just 57.3 percent from the charity stripe for his career.
Now that we know Collins' plans, how many minutes should we expect to see Brown on the floor each night?
Surely circumstance and matchups will dictate a decent amount of Brown's playing time, but it's hard to imagine him playing more than 20 minutes per game.
The Sixers showed us throughout last season that they aren't afraid to sacrifice size for scoring, and you should expect to see more of the same this season.
Re: Restoring The LOVE || 2012-2013 Philadelphia 76ers Franchise
Using my hometown team, good luck! Depth chart wise, and this is just my opinion, you should start either Thaddeus Young or Vucevic at the PF and start Hawes at the center position. This past season whenever Hawes was out with injury the team started Vucevic and he balled pretty well. I think Kwame, again this is just my opinion, will be the 5th big man off the bench behind Hawes, Thaddeus, Lavoy and Vucevic. Lavoy and Vucevic played extremely well as rookies from all the games I watched.
