I think Kenyon Martin is a good improvement, defensively over Amare. It was funny, I was in the process of making that first trade because I wanted to shake up the worst team that was expected to do well, when I read your comment, then I knew I had to make it kind of a blockbuster. Haha.

Derek Fisher Back In The League; Signs With Mavs
The winner of five NBA Championships, veteran guard Derek Fisher has recently signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Big D looks to get some more veteran leadership out of Derek Fisher as they attempt to pull them selves out of the 4-9 hole they've dug themselves into.

"I'm ready to come in an contribute in any way I can. As a Laker, and a Warrior and a part of the Thunder, I've played some tough games against Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs, it's an honor to be playing what might be my last season with this organization."

In association with the Derek Fisher signing, Dominique Jones has been waived by the Mavericks.

BREAKING: The Bulls trade Carlos Boozer and Marco Bellineli to the Kings for Marcus Thornton and Jason Thompson; teams swap draft picks

The Sacramento Kings acquired forward Carlos Boozer, guard Marco Bellinelli and a 2013 first-round draft pick from the Bulls in exchange for guard Marcus Thornton, forward Jason Thompson and the Kings' 2013 second-round draft pick on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chicago Bulls needed to get rid of their chemistry killer Carlos Boozer and did so, sending him to the already chemistry-troubled Sacramento Kings. Another need for Chicago this season has been a second dependable scorer on the perimeter to pair with Derrick Rose, they found this in Marcus Thornton.

Taj Gibson has been waiting in the wings of a Carlos Boozer trade to finally earn a starting spot in Chicago, which many fans thought he deserved with Boozer still in the picture. Gibson has been playing more minutes than Boozer off the bench for the Bulls this season, but given the trade, should be given close to 35 minutes per game.

On the other side of the trade, the Kings added another big bodied scorer alongside DeMarcus Cousins and rookie Thomas Robinson and also ridded their team of a big locker room problem in Thornton. Boozer has stated that his antics over the past month have been "unlike himself" and have been mainly caused by "outside sources"

"That's not me. I'm a quite guy who usually keeps my mouth shut. Some things were said, I wish some of them wouldn't have been. I lost a great friend in Derrick, but sometimes this is the way things go in this league, you're not out to make friends. But sometimes you wished you'd have kept some of them. Either way, that's in the past, and I'm lucky to have a new start in a great organization on the rise."

The comments Boozer is referring to are his made toward star guard Derrick Rose after a few key losses in the first few games of the year. He blamed Rose for thinking "one directional and possessing tunnel vision, not looking for open, capable teammates." The latter portion of that quote, referring to himself.

Carlos Boozer will wear #24 and Marco Bellinelli will wear #8 for the Kings.

Marcus Thornton will wear #20 (as his former number, 23, is retired by some guy from North Carolina) and Jason Thompson will wear #34 for the Bulls.

Re: We Got Next: A Golden State Warriors Association

BREAKING: Richard Jefferson, Pachulia to the Cavs, Tyler Zeller, Casspi to the Hawks, Ivan Johnson to the Warriors

It seems the league has caught the Trade Fever... well that's only because the dreaded trade fever is caused by that darn injury bug that's been going around...

The Atlanta Hawks have acquired rookie center Tyler Zeller and forward Omari Casspi from the Cleveland Cavaliers for Zaza Pachulia and the Hawk's 2013 second-round draft pick. The Golden State Warriors acquired forward Ivan Johnson from Atlanta, which in turn sent forward Richard Jefferson to Cleveland.

The Hawks' Al Horford has been banged up all season and doesn't look to be in for a minutes decrease anytime soon, with Pachulia seemingly a step slow this season, Atlanta looked to improve their low post game; Enter Tyler Zeller. Zeller has been very serviceable for the Cavaliers this year, 7.4 PPG with 5.5 RPG in 17.0 MPG, but overcrowded in the front court, the Cavs decided to move the young prospect. In return, the Cavaliers received some veteran leadership behind Richard Jefferson and Zaza Pachulia, something the so-far over-achieving Cavs team much needs.

Atlanta also acquired another piece in terms of depth at their position most bare, the small forward. With the addition of Omari Casspi, the Cavs have a volume scorer who doesn't need much time to put up points, but he does need at least some time, which he was not seeing in Cleveland.

The Warriors' injury woes are no secret; their star center Andrew Bogut recently underwent microfracture surgery and is expected to miss every game until Golden State's meeting with Miami in South Beach. That being said, it's no secret they looked to move Jefferson out of a crowded 3 position in place of a hustling, rebounding gritty big man in Ivan Johnson. Though Ivan Johnson plays undersized at 6'8 (more like 6'6) his hustle and toughness make up for it, both on offense and defense, the latter is what Golden State lacks severly at the moment. Golden State also shedded Jefferson's contract, worth $10M with a player option, which he is sure to accept wherever he is playing. This frees up space for the Warriors to make a few solid signing in the off season.

For the Hawks, Zeller will wear #45, Casspi will wear #36

For the Cavaliers, Jefferson will wear #9, Pachulia will wear #27

For the Warriors, Johnson will wear #91

Warriors Sign Quentin Richardson to Two Year Deal; 2nd Year is Team Option

The Warriors recently traded away Richard Jefferson, and instead of giving the backup small forward position to rookie Kent Bazemore, they signed veteran forward Quentin Richardson. Richardson is a career 35% 3-point shooter with almost 1,200 made in his 13 year span. Richardson is expected to play backup minutes behind Harrison Barnes, and at times, Klay Thompson. Richardson signed with the team for $1.35 over two years, the second year being a team option.

Neither Richardson or newly acquired forward Ivan Johnson are expected to play in Golden State's contest against Brooklyn.

Game Notes
The Warriors were swept in last year's two-game series against the Nets, losing both games 107-100, one at home; one on the road. Both teams have severely improved this season compared to last and would be in the postseason if the playoffs started today, with great seeding. What was known as a game between bottom dwellers last year, has turned into a battle between contenders this season. Wednesdays are "Warped Wednesdays" at ORACLE arena, meaning the road team will wear their home jerseys, and the home team, their road jerseys.

Warriors hot 3 point shooting continues, 6/10 from downtown. 55-52 Warriors at half. Barnes leads all scorers with 13.
Kaiser Permanente Halftime Report

THE GOOD: For the Warriors, the one first half statistic that jumps out at you is 3-point shooting. Golden State hit a whopping 6-of-10 from downtown in the first half, two coming from sharpshooter Klay Thompson. Rookie Harrison Barnes is the owner of one made three and leads all scorers with 13.

For the Nets, their best quality has been Points In The Paint. They got off to a 16-2 advantage on the Warriors after the first, but were outscored 16-10 in the paint in the second quarter. The Nets must continue to pound the paint with Festus Ezeli in foul trouble and Andrew Bogut out with an ankle injury.

THE BAD: For the Warriors, defense must be the main talking point during the break. Allowing a streaky shooting team like Brooklyn to shoot 51% in the first half in unacceptable. While defense on the perimeter has been decent, their paint defense has been transparent and easy to work through.

For the Nets, the outside shooting for the Warriors is the only reason they trail. If Brooklyn can close out on the Warriors' shooters quicker, success in the game should be much easier to come by in the second half.

FIRST HALF PERFORMERS: For the Warriors, rookie Harrison Barnes has provided a spark in this game as he has for much of the season. 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists from the rookie on 4-6 shooting from the field in the first half.

For the Nets, star guard Deron Williams has played outstanding. 10 points and 7 assists for Deron in the first half paves way for a decent second. The Nets must ride Williams' vision to the finish line if they wish to win.

Notebook: Nets 105, Warriors 94

Posted Wednesday November 21, 2012 11:45 PM

By Tyler Schwartz, for Warriors.com

THE FACTS: The Warriors defense is bad and they need help in hustling. The good news is that they just acquired Ivan Johnson from the Hawks, and his scrappy attitude may be able to light a fire under their D. Unfortunately, Ivan Johnson was not able to play Wednesday night as he was only traded Wednesday afternoon.

Deron Williams played like Deron Williams, pouring in 25 points and dishing 11 assists in Brooklyn's 105-94 win over Golden State.

QUOTABLE: "We knew we needed to close out on shooter after that hot first half. I think we did a great job, I'm proud of my guys."
-- Avery Johnson on his team's second half defensive performance

THE STAT: The Warriors held even with Brooklyn in nearly every stat category upon first glace, but the one stat they lost in, and terribly, was fourth quarter scoring. Really, it was fourth quarter execution. Whether it be, Stephen Curry or Klay Thompson, someone needs to step up for Golden State and be the go-to-guy offensively late in games.

TURNING POINT: The opening buzzer of the fourth quarter seemed to be the turning point for Brooklyn as Golden State came out of the break flat and never recovered.

QUOTABLE II: "It is clear, we need a spark defensively. People can point to the lack of scoring in the fourth, but really, if solid defense was instilled, the point total would be much closer and we could have won."
-- Warriors head coach Mark Jackson.

HOT: Brooklyn's Brook Lopez connected on 7 of his 9 field goal attempts Wednesday night on his way to 19 points. Lopez also collected 16 big rebounds for the Nets.

NOT: The Warriors in the fourth quarter. Nuff said.

GOOD MOVE: Brooklyn began working more around the perimeter in the second half, which was a problem for Golden State, who committed all of their defense inside early. The Nets began to get a better balance in their offense and once it was perfected, Golden State couldn't hang with the Men in Black (and White)

BAD MOVE: The Golden State Warriors sat Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes, David Lee and Carl Landry for a consecutive 4 minutes at the end of the third quarter, obviously resting them for the fourth, but in that time, Brooklyn had momentum building up that the starters could not stop.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Deron Williams would have been your best bet in Fantasy world here, but we all knew that before tip off. Humphries and Lopez performed well with double doubles as well.

ROOKIE WATCH: Golden State rookie Harrison Barnes finished with another solid game. Barnes tied team mate Klay Thompson as the leading scorer for his squad with 18, but also grabbed 9 rebounds and had 3 assists on the night. Barnes is looking to be a big piece to what Golden State wants to do in the future.

INSIDE THE ARENA: The Warriors offense was booked for the final three minutes of the game as they went scoreless until Harrison Barnes' fast break dunk with 40 seconds left in the game.

NOTABLE: Festus Ezeli fouled out of Wednesday night's contest early in the fourth quarter, playing only 17 minutes. Every starter for Brooklyn possessed double digits in scoring numbers.

Re: We Got Next: A Golden State Warriors Association

The Warriors: Fact or Fiction?

Posted Wednesday November 21, 2012 11:45 PM

By Tyler Schwartz, for Warriors.com

Through the first 12 games of the season, the Golden State Warriors are 7-5; a much improved start from last year's 12 game sample of 4-8. Drafting Harrison Barnes with the seventh overall selection of this year's draft kick started the Warriors vision of an improved team, they then drafted Festus Ezeli and Draymond Green with the next two picks; all three have proven to be great selections through early season play. The bench was the next step for the Warriors, who reached out and signed veteran guard Jarrett Jack and sixth man extraordinaire Carl Landry in Free Agency. Landry and Jack, paired with Brandon Rush, create a lethal explosion off offense coming off the bench nightly for Golden State, that make the Warriors ready to win each and every night.

STEPHEN CURRY

Stephen Curry started the season off with a bang, signing a three-year extension with the Warriors worth $44M and so far this season he hasn't missed a beat from the distracting extension. Curry is averaging 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game. One may note that Curry's 3-point percentage has dropped this season (.357 from .455), but it may also be noted that Curry has attempted less three-pointers in this 12 game span than in any other 12 game span in his career. Curry has committed to being an all around player this year, and so far, that's included: passing, scoring and playing defense.

KLAY THOMPSON

Klay Thompson, at this point in the season is 28/58 from 3-point range, that's over 48% and in the NBA, that's damn good. A sample size of 12 games might be a little small to judge how well a player will finish a season, but if last season is any indication of anything it's that Klay Thompson doesn't miss a good look very often. Thompson is a knock-down, deadeye shooter with seemingly unlimited range, and the Warriors are using him as such. All the treys aside, Klay has been scoring, very efficiently, from almost every area of the floor, becoming an all-around threat on offense. The combination of him and Stephen Curry in the backcourt will be one to be fear for years to come if Thompson continues to improve. This season, Thompson has already displayed his abilities to take defenders off the dribble and knock down the mid range J, get to the foul line, get fast break buckets, pretty much anything you CAN do on offense, Klay Thompson has shown it.

HARRISON BARNES

If you're a Warriors fan, you're a Harrison Barnes fan. Let's face it, if you're an NBA fan, you're probably a Harrison Barnes fan. The North Carolina graduate is something special to watch, night in and night out. With a silky smooth jumper and great slashing ability, Barnes has catapulted his name into Rookie of the Year conversations with his spectacular early season play. Offensively, Barnes still needs to polish his ball handling abilities and his court vision, but with a player so raw you love to see production so early in his career. On the defensive side of things, Barnes has had both a steal and a block in 8 of the 12 games he's played this season, and one or the other in all 12, the only other NBA player to lay claim to this: LeBron James. Pretty good company.

DAVID LEE

What can be said about David Lee that hasn't been said before? Hey, I've got one: David Lee is a top 5 power forward in the NBA. Don't believe me? Catch the next Warriors game. On the season, David Lee averages 18.0 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 4.3 APG on 55% shooting. Do not just note Lee's points or boards, but how effective he is on the floor on offense, both with shooting percentage and passing. A power forward who averages four-and-a-half assists a night is something special, and David Lee certainly is. Lee's low post proficiency has given defenders headaches all season. With his ability to finish through traffic with consistency, and hit open team mates for good looks from the post, David Lee might be the best passing big man in the game. Move over, Gasol brothers.

CARL LANDRY

Carl Landry was Golden State's biggest signing in the off-season, and Landry is portraying why all the attention was properly warranted. Landry has been the force off the bench that the Warriors have needed the last few seasons and has shown he is fully capable of taking on the scoring load when the Warriors' main scorers are resting. On the season, 11.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG and 1.5 BPG is Landry's stat line in just 24.4 minutes played per contest. Pretty impressive numbers for someone who almost went unsigned in the Free Agency. If Andrew Bogut misses extended time, past his expected month, we expect Landry to creep into the starting lineup at some point.

QUENTIN RICHARDSON

The Warriors set a franchise record this season by waiting only eleven games before making their first trade of the season, in which they sent swingman Richard Jefferson to Cleveland, and received forward Ivan Johnson from Atlanta. To ensure the depth at the small forward position, the Warriors replace the veteran Jefferson, with another veteran in his own right: Quentin Richardson. Richardson looks to take up the role that Jefferson held during his tenure this season and that is: backing up Harrison Barnes, the explosive rookie out of North Carolina.

IVAN JOHNSON

Yeah, that's the happiest picture we could find... Ivan Johnson, acquired from Atlanta in the Jefferson trade, is an expert in tenacity, all-out-effort, and unfortunately technical fouls. Warriors Faithful hope that Johnson's contagious hustle and emotion translate only positively to their team. If Johnson can focus his energy on making smart plays, making defensive stops and rebounding, he will have served his purpose and everything else will be a bonus. Scoring has never come naturally to Johnson, but he does seem to have the tendency to be at the right place in just the right time to get hustle buckets. The Warriors don't expect Johnson to join the team and immediately transform them, but his attitude and love for the game will help bring some grit to this current defense which seems to be in the negatives in terms of grittiness. When Bogut returns, the Warriors are looking at a front court of: David Lee, Andrew Bogut, Carl Landry, Festus Ezeli and Ivan Johnson which compile a great mix of both offense and defense.

Overall, things are looking good for the Warriors thus far, but improvement must be made if they wish to be more than a guaranteed first-round exit, and the way their defense has looked in most of the games, they may not even be that just yet. The organization has stated that defense is the main focus of the team this season, but their play on the floor must show this in order for the team to be considered a threat come playoff time.
