Lakers not able to figure out Mavericks in second meeting of the season
Like on opening night, the Mavericks surge in the fourth quarter to beat Lakers

DALLAS - Hard to believe that the first month of the NBA season is just about to come to an end, as it feels just like yesterday the season was beginning, but for the Lakers when it comes to the Dallas Mavericks, they would rather not want to relive the first two meetings between the teams this season.  On opening it was the Mavericks coming up with an answer to everything the Lakers threw at them and in the second meeting between the teams, it was the Mavericks furiously offensive powered fourth quarter that the Lakers didn't have an answer for as the Lakers saw their season high four game winning streak snapped and their three game road trip finished at 2-1 following a 106-93 loss to the Mavs.  O.J. Mayo put up a game high 25 points to lead the Mavericks, hitting an impressive 9-12 shots from the field including going 3-5 from the three point line.  Darren Collison finished with a double double, 16 points and dished out 12 assists and Shawn Marion (15 points and 10 rebounds) along with Chris Kaman (12 points, 10 rebounds) also had double doubles for the Mavs.  The score all tied up 67-67 heading into the fourth quarter and the Mavericks got on a hot streak and didn't let up outscoring the Lakers 39-26 in the final quarter.  Kobe Bryant, after having one of his worst games performance wise 24 hours ago in Memphis, finished with a team high 20 points and handed out 6 assists.  Metta World Peace added 18 points and 8 rebounds and Antawn Jamison off the bench finished with 16 points.  The Mavericks led by as many as 22 points in the game, despite it being a back and forth contest the first three quarters.  The Lakers will return home to finish out the month as they host the Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets next week.

Lakers offense lights up and hits on all cylinders against Indiana
Bryant, Howard and Nash combine for 67 points in tenth win of the season

LOS ANGELES - Returning from a week long three game road trip, the Lakers were eager to get back to business infront of their own crowd and with a soldout crowd looking on, the Lakers took to the court hosting the Indiana Pacers, in their only visit to play the Lakers this season, looking to duplicate last season's surprising victory that snapped an eleven year losing streak in Los Angeles.  Since the 1999-00 season when the Lakers moved into the STAPLES Center, the Pacers had lost everytime they played the Lakers (including the 2000 NBA Finals), but last season the Pacers got some breaks down the stretch and pulled out a victory and off to a great start this season they were hoping to make it two in a row.  Unfortunately for the Pacers, Kobe Bryant had other plans as he was in attack mode from the opening tip, but it was his counterpart on the Pacers, Danny Granger who displayed his best Kobe impersonation during the game.  Granger wasted little time in getting started, hitting the game's first three pointer and then followed that up by running off the Pacers first 11 points.  On the other side Bryant attacked the gaps offensively and got to the basket, but more importantly got to the free throw line.  As Granger and Bryant traded basket after basket through the first quarter eventually when it was time for others on both sides to step up, the Lakers had players answer the call, the Pacers were left looking around.  Kobe led the Lakers with a team high 27 points, hitting 9-14 shots from the field and going 9-9 from the free throw line as he was present and active all over the court filling up the stat sheet with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 block shots as well.  Dwight Howard had little trouble dominating the paint during the course of the game as Pacers center Roy Hibbert picked up three personal fouls in the first quarter and was held to limited minutes as Howard finished with 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Steve Nash finished with a double double of his own, 17 points and 11 assists and Antawn Jamison added 18 points off the bench for the Lakers who won their fourth straight home game and snapped their one game losing streak.  Danny Granger finished the game with a game high 37 points on the night along with 9 rebounds.  Granger went 13-25 shooting from the field overall and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.  Veteran forward David West finished with a double double (17 points, 11 rebounds) and George Hill also recorded a double double (11 points and 13 assists), but it wasn't enough as the Pacers were unable to find any answer to the Lakers offense that just seemed to be clicking during the game.  The Lakers finished the game shooting fifty percent (43-85) and hitting 22-27 free throws for the game.  The win was also the Lakers tenth win of the season, tying them with the Spurs for the most wins in the Western Conference and overall in the league.  After opening up the season losing their first two games, the Lakers are 10-3.  The Pacers dropped to 9-6 on the season and 4-5 on the road with the loss as they began a small three game road trip.  The Lakers will wrap up the first month of the season when they host the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.

Lakers outscore and outwork Nuggets to end their first month of the season
Bryant once again goes into scorer mode with Howard providing the knockout punch

LOS ANGELES - As the first month of the season comes to an end, the first five weeks have been entertainment filled, on court challenges between rival players and teams, players sustaining early season injuries, and the rather strange play of one Kobe Bryant.  Bryant coming into the game against the Nuggets for the first time since his rookie year was averaging less then 20 points per game.  His field goal percentage is the lowest of his career so far, but for those who might say that Kobe is starting to feel the effects of 17 NBA seasons now wear on his body, he will be the first one to tell you that if you second guess him, he might just make you eat those words and show that even at 34 years old, many say that he is still the best in the league.  Kobe finished the game tonight with a game high 30 points and also grabbed 5 rebounds and handed out 5 assists.  It was the third time in the last five games that Kobe has gone on to hit the 30 point barrier.  Dwight Howard added 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to add another double double to his season so far and Metta World Peace as also in attack mode finishing with 13 points.  The Lakers offense was clicking from the opening tip and even though it was calculating risk to push the temp with a team like Denver, but the gamble worked as the Lakers took a 35-23 lead after the first quarter.  The Nuggets battled back to make a one point lead halftime lead for the Lakers, but the second half the Lakers put together a nice and successful run that push the Lakers lead back into double digits as the Lakers went on to win the game, 116-109.  Ty Lawson, who signed a four year contract extension just before the season got underway led the Nuggets with a team high 27 points and dished out 6 assists.  Danilo Gallinari finished with 19 points, but was just not having the shooting night he would've liked, finishing 8-23 from the field and 1-9 from behind the three point line.  Andre Miller, off the bench added 16 points and passed out 10 assists.  For the Nuggets, the loss was their fourth loss in the their last five games, but were missing two starters out due to injuries with Andre Iguodala still nursing a broken foot and Wilson Chandler out with a sprained finger.  The Lakers finished the month winning two straight and are 8-2 since the last time they were at .500 at 3-3 and while the first month was a favored the Lakers greatly with 11 of their 16 games at home, the month of December isn't going to be as kind.  The Lakers have three game road trip and a four game road trip during the month and three sets of back-to-backs.  The Lakers had three sets of back-to-backs this first month and split them all, having lost the first set, then winning the second set and then winning one and losing one in the third set.  Dwight Howard will be looking forward to the Lakers next game as the calendar turns and his former team, the Orlando Magic come to town in what might be a lil bit of an emotional game for Howard, but nothing compared to what it'll be like when the Lakers travel to Orlando for their meeting with the Magic in March.
