Lakers start off road trip in impressive fashion over Cavaliers
Lakers twin towers combine for 42 points and 23 rebounds in victory

CLEVELAND - Starting a crucial four game road trip against some tough teams in the Eastern Conference, the Lakers focused their attention on their first opponent, the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that has handled the Lakers when they played in Cleveland the past few years, but this time around the Lakers twin towers had a huge say in the outcome.  Dwight Howard put up a team high 22 points and game high 17 rebounds and Pau Gasol added 20 points and 6 rebounds, hitting 10-13 shots from the field, leading the Lakers to a 111-87 victory and snapping a two game road losing streak in the process.  Kobe Bryant finished with 16 points and had 3 block shots of his own on the defensive end as the Lakers used a 60-39 second half to withstand and Cavalier comeback.  The Lakers led by as many as 29 points during the game.  Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving finished the game with a game high 25 points and Tristan Thompson added a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and rookie guard Dion Waiters finished with 11 points, but no other Cavs player reached double figures in the game.  The Lakers bench got great performances from Antawn Jamison and Jodie Meeks (both finished with 13 points apiece) and Steve Nash had a game high 11 assists.  The win snapped a two game losing streak on the road for the Lakers and they won consecutive games for the first time in three weeks.  It was a great performance all around, setting up a matchup with the New York Knicks on the calendar next in what should be an exciting and explosive game although the Knicks have not gotten off to a wonderful start.  Following the Knicks game the Lakers take on the Wizards and then end the trip with a matchup against the 76ers and their former center, Andrew Bynum.

Lakers dominate second half to get victory against Knicks
Bryant and Gasol combine for 57 points in second win on trip

NEW YORK - With yet another road trip currently taking the Lakers across the league there are a few games every year that fans and players circle as marquee matchups and for the Lakers when they come to New York its always a marquee matchup especially after some of the performances that their star Kobe Bryant has had over the past few years at Madison Square Garden.  Fans remember the performance Kobe had a few years ago where by the end of the game you had the home crowd chanting "MVP, MVP, MVP", for the opposing teams star player.  Not even Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain could get that kind of reaction from a Knick crowd and this time Kobe Bryant was set on again making another masterful performance at MSG infront of a sold out crowd and he didn't disappoint.  Kobe Bryant put up a game high 30 points including 6 rebounds and 8 assists and Pau Gasol had a dominating second half finishing with 27 points and grabbing 8 rebounds as they led the Lakers to their second win on their current road trip with a 108-94 victory over the Knicks.  Dwight Howard added 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 block shots on the night and Antawn Jamison off the bench finished with 13 points, including being the focal point of the offense for a stretch in the fourth quarter when the Lakers extended their lead into double digits.  Steve Nash controlled the tempo in the second half finishing with a team high 9 assists.  The Knicks went into halftime holding a two point lead, 47-45, but the Lakers offense (most notably Gasol and Bryant) heated up in the third quarter as the Lakers outscored the Knicks 36-26 to take the lead the rest of the game (the Knicks would get as close as four points the rest of the game).  Following back-to-back three pointers by Jodie Meeks and Metta World Peace, the Lakers got some breathing room pushing the lead back to double digits at 97-87.  Carmelo Anthony had an off game, finishing with a team leading 21 points, hitting 10-22 shots from the field, but did not attempt a free throw the entire game.  Amar'e Stoudemire was aggressive throughout, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Steve Novak off the bench added 12 points while J.R. Smith had 11.  Despite Carmelo Anthony only having 2 points in the first half the Knicks maintained control of the game and withstood a furious Lakers 11-0 run after taking a 37-30 lead only to see the Lakers quickly erase the deficit and take a 41-37 lead of their own.  For the Lakers it was their second road win of their road trip, now putting them at an even .500 (5-5) for the season and their third win in a row, while the Knicks dropped their second straight game.  The Lakers will face the Washington Wizards next in the back end of a back-to-back situation on this trip and then finish up on Sunday with a matinee meeting with the 76ers.

Nash lights up Wizards as Lakers win fourth straight
All five starters score in double digits for Lakers

WASHINGTON DC - Making their third stop on this four game trip the Lakers took on the Washington Wizards infront of sold out crowd at the Verizon Center and got an unexpected surprise as point guard Steve Nash who so far this season has sacrificed his scoring niche in order to run the Lakers offense efficiently while the team learns coach Mike D'Antoni's system, but Nash decided to let loose on the lowly Wizards and he was effective as he always has been, scoring 17 points and hitting 5-6 shots from the three point line as Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Dwight Howard recorded a double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Lakers won their third straight road game with a 107-94 victory.  The win was also the Lakers fourth straight in a row.  Kobe Bryant who led the Lakers just 24 hours earlier in New York keep rather quiet against the Wizards, finishing with 15 points and dishing out 6 assists.  Jodie Meeks added 11 points off the bench for the Lakers that went to 3-0 on their four game trip out east.  Wizards point guard John Wall put in a game high 27 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Nené added 21 points and 8 rebounds for the Wizards who lost their fifth straight game and are a league worst 4-16 on the season.  All five Lakers starters scored in double figures against the Wizards while Washington only had three players in double figures for the game.  The Lakers were aggressive on the offensive end attacking the basket at will and getting to the free throw line with great success, going 30-36 (83%) for the game while the Wizards finished 9-12 (75%) from the line.  The Lakers wrap up their road trip Sunday against the 76ers.
