Power Forward Vincent Freeman

Following the Mavs/Jazz game last night, there were reports that Small Forward Demarre Carroll and PF Vincent Freeman were being traded to Detroit for rookie small forward, Jeffery O'Connor. O'Connor was drafted 26th overall by the Pistons and has only played a total of 9 minutes in 2 games for Detroit.

It was rumored that Detroit was looking for a starting small forward, and they got it with Demarre Carroll.

This move was likely just to make roster space for the Jazz to sign PF/C Tiago Splitter from free agency. Splitter signed a one year deal with a player option with the Jazz this morning. Splitter played his first 3 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, where he averaged 8.0 PPG and 4.8 RPG in 18.4 MPG in San Antonio.

For many Jazz fans, this move is a disappointment, as Demarre Carroll was a fan favorite among Jazz Nation. Carroll participated in many community events, including bowling with fans. Coach George Karl on Carroll: "I really liked his hustle. He was a guy who could come in and energize the team immediately with his tenacious defense and never-die attitude. Unfortunately, we have tremendous depth at the wings and Demarre simply isn't big enough to play the 4 consistently. It was tough to give him minutes. We wish Demarre and Vincent the best in Detroit and hope they can have achieve success."

Re: A Bittersweet Symphony - Utah Jazz Association

November 3rd, 2013
Tonight, the Utah Jazz will take on rivals San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

After being eliminated by the Spurs the past two years in the first round of the playoffs, Utah is looking to get revenge on San Antonio with an early season win that would get the Jazz off to a 3-0 start.

With the Spurs already dealing with injuries to Danny Green and Manu Ginobili, the Spurs bench will be a little thin tonight, with a shaken-up Manu coming off the bench and Nando de Colo getting the start.

Tonight also marks the return of Tiago Splitter, as he was not resigned by the Spurs in the offseason, and signed a 1 year contract with the Jazz this morning.

Kevin Martin leads Jazz to victory over rival Spurs

November 3rd, 2013
Kevin Martin finally shook off some offseason rust with a perfect performance tonight in San Antonio. After shooting 3-11 and 3-10 in the first 2 games of the season, Martin finished the game 8-8 from the field and 2-2 from 3-point land.

Martin, who sits behind starters Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward, specializes in being a scoring threat from off the bench. He averaged 14.6 points per game as the 6th-man for OKC last year, and Utah brought him in with the Al Jefferson trade to provide a much-needed scoring threat. Though he struggled shooting the first 2 games, Martin has so far improved other parts of his game, such as rebounding and passing.

The Jazz had a huge 4th quarter to ice the game, as they scored 39 points in the final period to San Antonio's 31. Tim Duncan was a non-factor in the game, as he finished with just 4 points and 4 rebounds in nearly 30 minutes.

Manu Ginobili played limited minutes as he is recovering from a dislocated finger, and Nando De Colo got the start in his place. De Colo struggled shooting from the field, but finished with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. A few hours prior to game, former Pepperdine product Mychel Thompson, older brother to Klay Thompson, was signed by the Spurs, but he will not play until Tuesday night against the Pacers.

Hayward's late jumper caps off comeback win for Jazz

November 5th, 2013

With the score tied at 103, Tayshaun Prince grabbed an offensive rebound with 15 seconds left, but Hayward poked the ball loose and got the steal. After pushing the ball down the court, Hayward spotted Prince sprinting down the court towards him, and Hayward stepped back and popped the go-ahead jumper with 7 seconds left. After a Marc Gasol miss, Hayward hit the first of 2 free throws, then intentionally missed the 2nd to force Memphis to chuck it down court as time expired, and Utah picked up the win.

"I just pushed the fast break and I was looking for Alec across the court, but I saw Tayshaun out of the corner of my eye, and I stepped back, and found myself open, so I took the shot," says Hayward on his game-winner.

"I didn't really think anything much of the shot at that time, because even if I missed, we could've held them on D or gotten the offensive board, so I had all the confidence in the world."

Hayward has been playing extremely well to start the season, and his effort tonight was nothing short of spectacular. He was one rebound away from a double-double, and although he had 7 turnovers, he recorded 6 assists and shot 7-11 from the field.

For Memphis, it was recently signed guard Nick Young who ran the offense. Shooting the ball 28 times, Young finished with 28 points, including 4 three pointers. Zach Randolph finished with an excellent line of 19 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals, and one block.

Utah is off to a 4-0 start under new head coach George Karl and takes on the Lakers on Thursday.

Re: A Bittersweet Symphony - Utah Jazz Association

I think after my next game recap, I'm going to do a weekly recap for the team, and a monthly recap for the league, which will probably be power rankings, award races, injuries, signings, trades, etc.

I will still mix in game recaps every now and then, but not as frequently as I am now.

Howard leads Lakers to victory over Jazz

November 7th, 2013

Dwight Howard was dunking all over the court at Energy Solutions Arena en route to a Lakers win over the Utah Jazz tonight.

Howard finished with 30 points and 15 rebounds, 7 of which were offensive, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, which was more than enough to snag him Jordan Player of the Game honors.

Teammate Kobe Bryant scored 27, and Steve Nash was an assist shy of a double-double, as he finished with 20 points and 9 assists.

This was LA's first win of the year, as they move to 1-4, but it is also Utah's first loss this year, putting them at 4-1. These two teams seemed to be at opposite ends of the spectrum, as the Lakers have superstar talent but have been underachieving, while the Jazz are young and, though talented, are inconsistent and inexperienced, but have been overachieving as well.

Percy Turner scored a career-high 22 points tonight, as 7 Jazz players reached double-digits in scoring.

Utah takes on Minnesota on Saturday at the Target Center.

Re: A Bittersweet Symphony - Utah Jazz Association

Alright guys, I realized how much of a hassle it was to manage teams without actually having control of them, because some things just got too wacky.

I've decided to restart my Association with 30 team control. The problem? When I use Start Today I can't load a draft class since the playoffs are here. So, I will start the season and sim the whole thing until the playoffs, and hopefully most of the teams that are in in real life will be in.

I will still be the Utah Jazz and use them in games and will be the primary focus, but this was just done so I can make the league less stupid.

I will make a new thread and post it here so those who have been following the dynasty can follow my new one.

If this doesn't pan out, I still have the save for my old dynasty so I can continue that one if I don't like the 30 team Association.
