West's 22 leads Pacers to win over Raptors in season opener

TORONTO -- Despite the absence of Danny Granger, the Indiana Pacers had no trouble starting the season with a win over the Toronto Raptors 90-74.

David West scored of 14 of his game high 22 points in the first half and grabbed 10 rebounds, Roy Hibbert added 17 points.

Both teams struggled at times to score, but West's hot shooting was able to carry the Pacers.

"David put us on his shoulders at both ends of the court, and just carried us," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "This victory is squarely on his shoulders."

The Raptors trailed by just six entering the fourth quarter but were outscored 23-13 as the Pacers cruised to an easy victory.

DeMar DeRozan led Toronto with 18 points, and Ed Davis had 16 off the Raptors bench. Jonas Valanciunas had 6 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out in his NBA debut.

Indiana played without forward Danny Granger, the team's leading scorer the past five seasons, who is sidelined indefinitely with soreness in his left knee. Granger is scheduled to seek a second opinion as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained during last spring's Eastern Conference semifinals. He aggravated the injury during the preseason.

"The confidence this team has, knowing the success we had last year, we think we can win without anybody almost," West said.
