DAL, TX-

The rise of stars in the NBL is an exciting part of the first few weeks. We certainly witnessed the rise of a star in Sundays opening week two game. Andre Reed poured in 30 points, en route to Dallas' 90-73 victory over the Denver Outlaws.

First half offensive struggle for Dallas gave way to an early scoring binge for Reed, as he scored 14 of his teams 40 first half points. Reed and forward Noah Jackson would go on to punish Denver's defense in the second half, pushing the tempo in transition, connecting on alley-oops, and several memorable dunks.

Denver struggled to score at times, producing just twelve points in the third quarter. The team pulled down 23 offensive rebounds, but scored just eight second chance points. Neither team moved the ball extremely well, though Denver did have more assists (18-16).

DJ Porter and Sidney Green combined to give Denver a decent night in the post, combining for 21 points and four assists while shooting 6 of 16, as well as securing 22 rebounds.

OS CAP STATS-

DEN- AJ Stuart- 29 MIN, 8 PTS, 7 AST, 4-15 FG

SAN FRAN, CA-

Owing to conservative play and tough defense, San Francisco has notched its second Western Division win, jumping out to an early lead in the West.

San Francisco came out running on all cylinders on Sunday, outscoring Los Angeles 31-18 in the first quarter. San Francisco would go cold over the next two quarters, scoring just two points in the third quarter. Los Angeles would outscore the Dragons in the second and third quarters 25-14, which narrowed the lead to two, 45-43 heading into the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles however, could not keep the momentum it built, and Matt Burkart would unleash a nine point explosion, hitting three straight three pointers, and pushing San Francisco on a 13-0 run to start the quarter. Los Angeles caught their breath with a timeout at the 7:25 mark, and Eury Reyes and Tyus Parker would both score on pick and pop looks following the break. The Riptide would spark a 12-4 run, narrowing the gap from fifteen to ten with 3:28 remaining. The Dragons then switched to 3-2 zone, forcing looks to the inside, and Los Angeles would fail to mount a serious offensive run.

OS CAP STATS:

LA- Tyus Parker- 27 MIN, 13 PTS, 8 REB, 1 AST, 4-8 FG, 2-4 3PT, 3-5 FT

Yes, he will play his first game in week 3.

On another note, I have been spending a lot of time building spreadsheets for all the stats, and am currently figuring out how I will get those uploaded, so that you all can view the stats for every team and player at any time.

BOS, Ma-

A match-up of two eastern teams proved to offer excitement this week, as Baltimore and Boston engaged in one of the most heated battles yet in this young season. In front of a sold out arena in Boston, the two perimeter inclined teams traded hot streaks, and big defensive plays, en route to a thrilling finish.

Baltimore got working right from the tip, scoring on back to back three pointers to open the game. Boston struggled early, guard Blake Taylor, failing to get fouls called on several contested lay-ups, became noticeably irritated with Baltimore's tough interior defense in the opening minutes, prompting a Boston timeout with 6:49 left in the first. Trailing 13 to 6, Boston began working to the post, scoring twice on Buck Williams put backs, and a Tyrone Davidson turn around jumper from inside of 10 feet.

First Quarter- 22-17

The second quarter saw Boston loosen up offensively, as backup guard Jaren Jackson hit an incredibly long three, followed by a fast break dunk by Jordan Smith, that was set up by one of Tyrone Davidson's two blocks. Baltimore struggled to contain Buck Williams on the boards as the quarter ran down, and Williams grabbed three more offensive rebounds in short succession after returning to the game with 3:51 remaining. Boston ended the quarter on a 10-0 run, outscoring Baltimore in the quarter 27-22.

Second Quarter- 44-44

The third quarter was by far the most defensive quarter of the game, as both teams locked down. Baltimore turned a pair of George Burns blocks early in the quarter into a pair of three's to take a 50-45 lead. Craig Hodges, despite staunch defense on Blake Taylor, struggled mightily in the third, shooting just 2 of 9. With 3:18 remaining in the third, and trailing 59-50, Boston would regain composure, as David Wingate and Jordan Smith both hit a pair of free throws, followed by a Blake Taylor three to close the gap, 59-57.

Third Quarter- 62-58

Boston carried its momentum into the fourth, expanding their 8-3 run into a 15-3 run, scoring the first seven points of the fourth quarter. Baltimore struggled to find anything on offense, missing on several attempts to score in the paint. Dre Gordon, who finished 1 of 6 for the night, would miss all three of his fourth quarter attempts. Craig Hodges would hit three balls with 3:06 and 2:11 remaining, drawing Baltimore close enough to make one final push, with the score 75-74, Boston on top.

Boston would hit two quick shots within two minutes, but after a Craig Hodges layup with :39 remaining made the score 79-77, Boston would face its biggest offensive possession of the night. Following a timeout, Boston chose to isolate Jordan Smith on the left side of the court, his strongest shooting zone, but as he drove against AC Abombiea, George Burns made a quick movement from the top of the post, and slapped Smith's layup attempt off the backboard.

Baltimore called one of their two timeouts with :13 remaining. On the inbound Buck Williams threw the ball to Craig Hodges who was curling off a screen. Hodges caught the ball, but fumbled it around, causing a dive for the ball against Jordan Smith. Smith gained control of the ball, but Hodges would poke it loose again, finally recapturing the ball with about two seconds on the clock. Hodges, five feet beyond the arc, took a quick jab step, and shot a beaming three over Blake Taylor, but the shot would hit rear iron, falling dead and ending the game.

Final- 79-77.
