Coach Lindsted walks in the SCA gym at 5 P.M. to all the Players stretching and preparing for tryouts, the only exception is Freshman Rob Ford who is eating a pack of Pop-Tarts. Lindsted thinks to himself "
Why is this kid here?" He sees Debo Perm and nearly Loses it "
Where has this kid been? Holy Sh*t"
"Alright boys, today is Day 1 of 3 of SCA Basketball Tryouts. I'm sure you all know that. I'm Coach Lindsted and here at SCA we have one of the finest Basketball Programs in the nation. That is because we have great Basketball Players that attend SCA and i pick only the Finest Players."
" To start off i'm gonna tell you some of the things i look for in a basketball player, I look for Size, it isn't a top priority but if we want to compete, size matters.
"A couple giggles are heard from the circle of players.
" Next, I look for effort. I know all coaches say it, but it is true. You could be Melo, but if you don't put in the effort then you won't get much playing time
IF you even make the team. And lastly, I look for Basketball IQ, to make my varsity squad, you have to know the game of basketball and know it well. It's as simple as that."
"Now, to get started, I want you all to sprint 10 laps around the gym. Just to see who is in prime shape."
A loud groan is heard from Rob Ford
Anthony Sherman finishes first...
" What's your name son?" (Lindsted)
"Sherman. Anthony Sherman."
"I like the effort, keep it up, what year are you?"
"Sophomore."
"Impressive, Thanks Anthony."
"No problem Coach Lindsted."
" Alright boys, Day 1 of tryouts will consist of offensive practice only. We will start off with Form-Shooting from the free-throw line. Pick a Partner quickly and lets get it started."
Tryouts continue for 3 hours with the players doing offensive drills and showcasing passing, shooting, and dribbling...
Whistle Blows "Huddle up everyone, quickly, hustle. I saw alot of effort today and alot of skill, looking at Dontae' Brown. Hopefully it continues tomorrow, be here before 6 or you wont take part in day 2 of tryouts. See you tomorrow. Have a nice night.
Coach Notes:
Anthony Sherman: Quick, Good size and Handles.
Dontae’ Brown: An absolute beast in the paint, there must be a downside somewhere
Adam Hamilton: Dosen't have great size, but good shooter, needs to work on threes.
Nuka Seyde: Dosen't have great size again, but can score and rebound pretty well. Has good basketball IQ.
Alex Jones: Undersized compared to the other 2 guards. Great Shooter but dosen't pass well.
Floyd Griffin: Good size for his age, but if he played Varsity, would mostly play the 3. Can score well inside and mid-range.
Debo Perm : 7-1!!!!, Can easily post up a defender and has good post moves he can use to score, not very fast.
Johnny Pentagrams: Good size for age, but much smaller than my Juniors and Seniors. Can score from the post, quicker than most big men. Showed decent offense from the wing.
Shane Mills: Nice Fluid jumpshot, good handles. Can't run for long periods of time.
Rob Ford: What is this kid doing here, 5-6 330! Can drive the lane but what else can this kid do other than eat?
