Re: Facing The Front Office (An NBA 2k14 MyGM Story)
My mother is gone. Riley thought to himself as he made his way towards the front door.
He hadn't quite been able to accept that thus far, which was perhaps the reasoning for his unstable mood as of late. For the first time this season he had decided not to travel with the team on a road trip. The game against the Clippers would be the first one he missed all season.
As he entered the house he noticed Janice had finished packing. Now that his mother had passed, she'd be leaving. Nonetheless he had decided it was finally time to ask her out on a date. It wasn't under the greatest circumstances, but now that she wasn't working at his house she wouldn't have an excuse not to.
"Need any help with that?" he asked as he grabbed the box from Janice's arms.
"Just be careful with that!" she replied. "Some of this junk is valuable junk!"
He laughed. She always seemed to be cracking jokes and smiling. Even on the worst of days she somehow remained content.
They finished moving the rest of the boxes to the car just before the sun began to set.
Riley leaned against the car door, as she took a seat beside him.
"So, I've been meaning to ask you. Now that you aren't working here, maybe, we could go out sometime? Catch a movie or something." he asked.
She stood up and brushed off her pants before turning to face him.
"That would require you to do something non-basketball related though. I don't know how well you'd fare." she teased. Shooting him that smile that he had grown to adore so much.
"I made it through today fine, didn't I?" he asked, giving her a playful push.
"That is true." she responded.
Riley went all in, knowing there was no turning back now.
"So, does that mean yes?" he questioned.
She leaned in close, as if she was preparing to kiss him. For a minute he closed his eyes, expecting her lips to come in contact with his.
She redirected her head, and whispered in his ear.
"I guess you'll just have to wait and find out."
She laughed and opened her car door.
"Now, you have some basketball time to go makeup. I'll talk to you soon."
The car coasted out of the driveway, and before long it was out of sight.
Riley had never been more confused by a woman in his life.
