Yeah, I totally expected Exum to go to either the Lakers or Orlando. When Orlando drafted Anderson, I thought Exum was going to fall big time.

Vonleh to the Pacers was a big surprise. They still have Scola, so those two and Mahinmi should be a great rotation off the bench for them.

Utah Resigns Gordon Hayward, Enes Kanter

And with that, three of the original "Core Four" have been resigned. Derrick Favors signed a 4 year extension last season, Hayward signed a 5 year deal a month ago, and Enes Kanter just signed a 3-year extension to this year's contract that will keep him in Utah through the 2017 season.

Hayward's deal came after Boston offered him a 4-year, $40.00M contract. Utah decided to not only match the offer, but to increase the deal to a 5-year, $50.00M contract. And this came after the Jazz signed #1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins to his rookie deal.

Kanter's deal is slightly less expensive, as his contract is now 4-years, $30.02M. However, fellow 2011 draft pick Alec Burks has yet to work out an extension with the Jazz. It will be interesting to see if Utah is willing to bring him back next season with Wiggins now in town and with Hayward signing a big deal.

Utah Jazz 2014-2015 Season Preview

new jazzmen.jpg
New Jazzmen (From Top Left, Clockwise): Rodrigue Beaubois, Kwame Brown, Mike Miller, Andrew Wiggins, Russ Smith, Lamar Odom

The Jazz have had a successful offseason. GM Christopher Ross managed to get lucky and draft Andrew Wiggins 1st overall. He also managed to find a new head coach after sending Tyrone Corbin packing. New head coach Sidney Lowe, an assistant from last season, will have his hands full, but he has the tools to succeed. If not, new assistant coach and former Utah Jazz player Earl Watson is waiting in the wings...

It will be interesting to see how Utah will handle Wiggins' minutes in his rookie season. With Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward already manning the two and the three, one would think that either Burks or Wiggins is coming off the bench to provide a spark.

Will Gordon Hayward be able to build off of his excellent season last year? After scoring 20 points a game, along with 4 rebounds and assists per game, Hayward is primed for a big year and perhaps an All-Star game appearance.

Last year's rookie Trey Burke returns for his sophomore campaign as he hopes to improve his efficiency. Trey is already one of the leaders of the team, and it's time that he proves it statistically as well. Backing Burke up is rookie guard Russ Smith. Smith was a 2nd round pick for the Jazz, and though he's more of an undersized 2 guard, he can still make some point guard-esque plays.

Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter are both looking to have breakout seasons. Kanter is the more offensive-oriented big of the two, but Favors is looking to take a step towards that direction. Backing them up is Rudy Gobert in his sophomore campaign, Jeremy Evans, Marvin Williams, and new Jazzmen Kwame Brown and Lamar Odom.

Odom is making his comeback in the NBA after sitting out a year due to substance abuse. If Odom can return to any percentage of form that he was when he was with the Lakers, Utah will be ecstatic.

Also joining Brown and Odom as new Jazzmen are Mike Miller and Rodrigue Beaubois. Miller has taken a lesser role the past few years with both Miami and Memphis, so we should expect nothing different from him this season. Beaubois hasn't played in the NBA since the 2012-2013 season, so it will be interesting to how he plays. Before he suffered numerous foot/ankle injuries, Beaubois was a hot prospect for the Mavericks.

Though it might be too early to expect a playoff appearance for this ballclub, Utah should definitely be a much more improved team from last season.

Jazz Knock Off NBA Champs In Season Opener

October 30, 2013

Salt Lake City -
Don't ask how, but the Jazz beat the defending world champions tonight. After being down 37 to 51 at halftime, the Jazz went on a tear in the second half, outscoring OKC 57 to 30. The Jazz shot 46% from the field to the Thunder's 37%, and 39% from deep, compared to OKC's awful 9% from three-point land.

Gordon Hayward had a strong showing against the reigning MVP Kevin Durant, as he finished with 15 points and 6 assists, as he shot 7-11 from the field. Durant, however, was seemingly OKC's only offense in the second half. Durant finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Derrick Favors had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and he also recorded 2 blocks. Enes Kanter was just 2 rebounds away from a double-double himself, and he also recorded 2 blocks. Alec Burks only played 24 minutes while starting, but he finished well after starting out shooting 0-6.

Andrew Wiggins, the first overall pick for the Jazz this past summer, came off the bench to a standing ovation. Wiggins finished the game with an all-around solid performance, as he had 11 points, 7 boards, 3 assists, a steal, and a block.

The Jazz will take on Golden State in 2 days in Oakland.

Man, the Thunder can't contain the Jazz on opening night. Twice in a row that the Jazz have won.
