Binghamton lands the #12 seed; Boston a no-show

The Bearcats won their conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and found themselves climbing to the #12 seed in the tournament, facing a somewhat winnable opponent in the Duquesne Dukes who finished the regular season 22-8 albeit with a RPI much higher than Binghamton's 120 at #13. The Duke's play better than expected and their grit and intensity will be needed, facing an upstart Binghamton team that is fresh off one of the most impressive wins in their college's history.

The Duke has veteran leadership and most of it's team comprises of said players, Louis Penigar and Derrick Colter are the standouts on the squad while Darius Lewis will have his hands full with Curtis Gai. The advantage all around goes to Duquesne, the Pittsburgh school definitely is strong enough to stave off the Bearcats.

Seems like a tough draw in Duquesne, they're very experienced and their backcourt looks tough to stop. Think you have a chance? At the very least they seem like they've lost to some lower level teams so you might have a chance.

Great job taking down Boston, sad to see them miss the tournament though. Should've shot more with Eaton to get the 30 Congrats and enjoy your 1st Tournament!

I'm surprised they missed the tournament, not going to lie! Especially considering a sub .500 TCU squad (14-18 I believe) got in.

It'll be very tough, Towe is going to have to step up even more, and it'll take a lot, Eaton will have to have a huge game!

Dukes' rally to knock off the Bearcats

The Bearcats had a ten point lead with over 5 minutes remaining and a good amount of momentum, after spending most of the first half playing catch up, Mire Myles heated up and knocked shots down across the court and helped the Bearcats pull out to a lead with most of the 2nd half played out, having thoroughly out played a superior squad that they were projected to lose against, even so the Bearcats kept their heads up, only to watch as their lead was assaulted and ultimately stymied.

Mire Myles scored 24 in the Binghamton tournament debut, shooting for .500 from the field as well as beyond the arc and help carry a rather strong showing from the second unit, solidifying his spot as Jordan Reed's replacement in the upcoming campaign. Tyson Towe slowed his production after a big conference championship match up, scoring only 4 points but getting 7 assists. Russell Eaton had another strong showing with 19 points , 5 rebounds and 2 steals amongst other minute stats.

Louis Penigar came up big with 23 points on 9-14 shooting, while Darius Lewis completely outpaced his season averages by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds, and Derrick Colter added another double double with 19 points and 11 assists on an afternoon where the baskets were coming in streaks, the final streak would be one that the Duke's would finish, a tough loss to stomach for Binghamton, but they had a great season and made school history, it's difficult to discredit making history.
