Re: The Madness - Coaching Legacy of Tyler MacLeod
Midnight Madness concludes, Binghamton unveils starting line ups and schedule
The regular season is just on the horizon and with that, the future of the Binghamton basketball program is on the rise, after what many consider to be an extremely strong class (for Binghamton standards of course), the team has reloaded and looks for a much better campaign than their laughable 2007/08 campaign.
With the final depth chart released, three freshman hold down starting positions, a testament to this recruiting class and also the shrewd management of coach Tyler MacLeod to redshirt a player that many felt could've been a sixth man last year.
At point guard will be red shirted freshman, Marlon Beck II, Beck is a small guard that is best at playing with the ball in his hands. Shooting guard will be held down by Jordan Reed, the 6'4 junior had a huge year last year, going for 11.6 PPG and 10.1 RPG, a lone bright spot on a season of pitfalls. Moving onwards, at the small forward position will be freshman Mire Myles. Myles who was bouncing between Princeton and Binghamton before finally settling on Binghamton is undersized at only 6'3, but his true position is the 2 guard, even so he showed glimpses of excellence and proved that he is starting level talent. He likely is one of the best defenders on the team and that will be where most of his benefits lie, he needs to work on spreading the floor and his long range shooting, but he is nearly automatic close to the basket. The rest will come with work.
At the power forward is quite a peculiar specimen, with Nick Madray manning the four, Madray was fairly limited last season as he finished with 5.6 PPG and 4.8 RPG, but what is so peculiar about him is his offensive skillset, he excels at the interior and beyond the arc, his issues lies in the hardwood between those two points. He shot .437% last season and 25% from beyond the arc, look for those numbers to improve this season, especially with the emergence of their two touted center prospects. Speaking of which, it was Curtis Gai the 7'1 freshman from Pawtucket, Rhode Island that took the starting center spot. Gai is a force at 7'1, 282 lbs. His skillset is extremely raw but he has the frame of a NBA center, and that will be huge in a conference that is largely undersized. Joining him as a pivotal reserve is Chris Hammond, the 7'1 Juco transfer. The 3* center will be a close second but MacLeod will likely give a near perfect split of minutes between the two, while his frame is smaller at 215 lbs, he is more agile.
The other recruit in the class, Adam Jackson should see some good minutes off the bench as the Australian native power forward had a solid preseason work out but couldn't usurp Madray's unique skillset, he should be a good contributor with the second unit. Joined by Jabrille Williams (5.6 PPG), and Yosef Yacob (6.6 PPG) as key members of a second unit. Binghamton is one of the more deep teams in the America East conference.
