Memphis is making some roster moves. Jenkins was able to sign Ben Gordon and trade for Phil Pressey. "I liked him when he was at the University of Missouri and felt he would be a great fit to our organization," explained Jenkins.

      Spurs too much for Grizzlies

      NBA 2K14_20140702001743.jpg

The Spurs were too much for the Grizzlies. Danny Green and Patty Mills nailed some threes that thwarted any run that Memphis attempted to make. Memphis was committed to getting the ball to their big men and was able to get Tim Duncan to foul out with just over six minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The Spurs had pushed the lead to 19 to that point. Frustrated by the night, Memphis head coach took the starters out. A few minutes later, Memphis had cut the deficit to single digits. The starters would their way back onto the court, but was unable to get the game any closer. "It wouldn't have mattered if Tim, Tony and Manu all fouled out. The Spurs were just on fire. We couldn't defend, " said Mike Conley after the game. Up next for the Grizzlies is the Detroit Pistons at home.

        Detroit slips by Memphis

Mike Conley visibly frustrated with another loss.

Memphis let this one get away from them late in the 3rd quarter. Detroit's Josh Smith made a few crucial baskets late in the game which sealed Memphis' fate. "It's very disappointing. We had the lead at the half, but went ice cold in the 3rd quarter," stated Mike Conley to the Memphis Democrat. When GM Von Jenkins was asked if he was concerned with his team's start to the season, he said not at all. "Our first game was against the team that represented our conference in the NBA Finals and the other is a team that has put some great pieces together. Detroit is going to have a really good season. I would not be surprised at all to see them later on in the playoffs, " said Jenkins.

Memphis snags first win of the season

            NBA 2K14_20140702182227.jpg

Memphis got their first win of the season and looked great in the process. Quincy Pondexter was a monster off the bench that could not be contained. Because of Pondexter, the starters were able to stay off the court and get some much needed rest. "It was nice to be able to sit and watch some of our other talented guys that don't get to see much playing time. QP looked nice on the court tonight. Especially one nasty dunk he had...," said Conley. GM Von Jenkins did not get overly excited, but was visibly pleased with the Grizzlies performance. "This is just one win of many. This team is very talented and so this outing was no surprise to me or my staff, " explained Jenkins.

Tough two losses to start the year but at least you didn't begin the season 0-3.

Yeah, that is for sure. I thought that if the season started off bad enough that I would blow it completely up, tank the season and try to get either Jabari or Wiggins. LeBron has already announced he will be testing free agency. I would love to clear some cap room to at least make an offer.

Conley sinks a dagger into the Celtics

                    NBA 2K14_20140702213747.jpg

The Celtics won the first three quarters and it looked as though that trend would continue in the fourth. Memphis won themselves down by as much as 20 points in the second quarter. "We were awful early in this game. Couldn't make open shots, couldn't rebound, weren't makin' hustle plays...," said Marc Gasol during the post-game press conference. Just like in Hollywood were you thought the main character was without hope and would not be able to overcome the odds, Mike Conley arrived on the scene. He scored 25 of his 40 points in the 4th quarter. "He was feelin' it and we just wanted to make sure the ball was in his hands, " explained Ben Gordon. Grizzles fought all the way back and were down by only two points with 20 seconds left. Everyone in the building knew the game's fate would rest on Conley. "We initially tried to get a look in the post to try and tie the game, but our bigs got double teamed as soon as we dumped the ball to them, " said Conley. Gasol kicked it back out to Conley for a three point attempt. With just over a second to play, Conley threw up a prayer with Rondo all over him. *BUZZER....SWISH....CROWD ERUPTS!!!*

                      Grizzlies notch third straight win

The Grizzlies knew that Zach Randolph was playing hurt against the Celtics, but they did not know how hurt he really was. Memphis' lead team doctor has diagnosed Randolph with a strained oblique and will be out 1-2 weeks. Ed Davis and Marreese Speights really showed up to play tonight. They had a combined effort of 36 points and 11 rebounds. Pelicans guard Eric Gordon scored 16 points, but was 1 for 6 from downtown. Tyreke Evans had a tremendous game with 21 points from 10 of 14 shooting. Anthony Davis got into foul trouble in the third quarter and was unable to play really aggressive defense. "I think we know what our strengths are. We got some great young players in the low post that are just starting to see how good they can be, " shared GM Jenkins on ESPN First Take with Stephen A. Smith.

Grizzlies dominate Warriors, win fourth straight

                          NBA 2K14_20140707095714.jpg

A scary moment in the third quarter had Klay Thompson on the court not moving. Thompson was on a fast break and was being contested by a couple Memphis defenders when he fell awkwardly on the floor. Klay was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons. Doctors determined Klay had a concussion and had been knocked out in the process. Klay will not see the court for at least 2 weeks. Thompson and Curry shot 10 of 31 and combined for only 26 points. The Grizzlies' defense was smothering the Golden State shooters. Memphis' Speights played well and had 20 points. This win puts Memphis in a tie for first with the Spurs in the Southwest Division while the Warriors go to 2-5 and struggling mightily.

LeBron James has declared early this season he intends on testing free agency next summer. The team with the most cap room is the 76ers at $31.04 million. But who realistically has a shot at landing LeBron? Lakers, Knicks or possibly the Cavaliers with all the young talent there may be potential destinations for King James.

Jenkins looking to free up salary cap?

Sources close to Grizzlies' GM Von Jenkins say he is considering trading Marc Gasol and/or Zach Randolph. Moving either player would free up at least 15 million for the Grizzlies so they can pursue LeBron James this summer. One team that could take on either player's contract is the Philadelphia 76ers. The Grizzlies want to get another guard or small forward so maybe Michael Carter-Williams or Thaddeus Young could be a target of Jenkins.
